3 months after flights cancelled still no refund from BudgetAir.ie, even though the airline repeatedly confirmed that it has refunded BudgetAir
Updated: I received the refund this week, 3 months after my flight cancellation. I brought it up to 2-star review. Even though I got my money back, the process was very stressful, and I still think it wouldn't have arrived if I hadn't raised the request with Qatar Refund team directly.
I don't hold it against the agents. I think they genuinely wanted to help. This comes down to the operation model of the company regarding refund.

If you're looking into using BudgetAir.ie, my advice to you is STAY AWAY from them. I've been a customer with them since 2022 but I will never again.
My Qatar Airways flights, which were booked through BudgetAir.ie, got cancelled early March 2026. The airline announced free cancellation and refund for all affected tickets. That was almost 3 months ago, and I still don't have my money back from BudgetAir.ie, even though Qatar repeatedly told me that the refund was approved and processed to this agent.
It's an absolute pain chasing their customer services, with all the false promises and constantly shifting goalpost. First, they told me it would take 2–3 weeks. When that came and went, the answer became "up to 8 weeks." When that passed, "up to 3 months." Last week, when I pushed back, they told me it could now take "up to 6 months." Each time a deadline passes I have to be the one to chase. Each time I chase, the answer is longer than the last one. Nobody from BudgetAir has ever proactively reached out when one of their own deadlines lapsed.
What makes it really hard to accept is that Qatar Airways has confirmed repeatedly that my refund has been approved, gave me the exact amount of my refund, and that the money has been released to BudgetAir's end so they can pay me out.
BudgetAir's answer every time is some version of "we haven't received it, we're checking daily." but never gave any details on whom they talked to, what's blocking the payment, and any progress they made.
As per Irish Consumer Rights Act 2022, unfulfilled services have to be refunded within 14 days, which has long passed. Whatever the actual issue is between them and the airline is their B2B matters. I paid BudgetAir for flights that didn't happen.
A few other things I want to mention:
- For the first month, BudgetAir hadn't actually submitted a refund request to the airline at all. I only found this out because I rang the airline myself. They told me there were no refund request made by the travel agent for my ticket on the system. I had to ask the airline to manually create the refund request for me. The whole month I'd been told it was "with the airline", it never was.
- Every email reply is more or less copy-pasted. "Checking daily," "we'll let you know when we have your money," "thank you for your patience." There's never any real information, never any actual movement.
If you're considering BudgetAir for anything where there's even a small chance of a refund being needed, please please don't go with them. If you're stuck in similar situation, contact your airline to find out the truth about your refund.
I cant remember the lovely ladies name…
I cant remember the lovely ladies name but she called me because the flights I had booked seats sold out. She was so helpful and assisted me until our flights were all sorted.
Customer Service was a priority for them
Helpful human contact on the phone or by email, nothing too much trouble. Will use for any future travel.
Good reliable flight booking in ireland
Booked a long haul flight at BudgetAir.ie thru skyscanner.ie redirect. Price was same as mentioned on skyscanner. Ticket was smoothly issued on next business day that was 1 day after I booked, thankfully I didn't need to chase anyone, that why I rated 4 stars.
I would have loved to give 5 stars if ticket is issued automatically, because waiting made me a little nervous (even though everything went well at the end).
Got the cheapest tickets from them
Got the cheapest tickets from them. I would definitely book again
I booked my tickets through budgetair…
I booked my tickets through budgetair and was scheduled to fly on 1st march but the carrier Etihad cancelled my flight and i tried contacting budget air for refund or rescheduling but there is no help ,they say etihad has marked my ticket as used ,and to contact etihad ,when i contacted Etihad they say the booking agent has to escalate the matter to etihad they cant do anything its the worst booking agent plz do not book through budgetair they dint help or care about customers once ticket is booked
Great service by customer rep, but booking system was difficult
I really enjoyed communications with Sarah Jane Wynne who was very responsive to my queries. When I called to the office line, she picked up very soon and answered my queuries calmly and professionally. What I didn't like was to search with the fares that I was looking for. For example, when I found one fare, then the link was not valid. It really consumed my time, and wasted my time to plan with that date.
Thank you.
I know that travelling to Japan isn’t cheap, so I usually compare prices on Skyscanner. While I don’t always book the very cheapest option, I often choose Budgetair.ie instead. From experience, I’ve learned that when something goes wrong, many online companies are slow to respond. However, Budgetair.ie has always been different.
Over the past two to three years, I’ve booked flights three to five times for myself and my daughter, and they have never disappointed me. I find it very reassuring to deal with a real person rather than just an AI assistant.
In November, Sarah Jane Wynne responded very quickly when I needed to fix my flight tickets. Most recently, Asim Shahzad was very helpful in assisting me with a refund from the airline. As I was overseas at the time, all communication was done via email. He said he would try to get to the bottom of the issue, and he did just that. When I returned to Dublin, I was able to speak with him directly, and it was comforting to hear a real person’s voice and know that I was genuinely being looked after.
Excellent customer service and highly recommended.
