Disproportionate Fine for a 14-Minute Overstay – Avoid This Company!

I am extremely disappointed with Britannia Parking’s unreasonable enforcement at London Waterloo car park. Despite paying for parking, I received a £100 fine for a 14-minute overstay (only 4 minutes beyond their 10-minute grace period).

What makes this worse is that I was collecting my 2-month-old son after surgery at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, along with my 7-year-old daughter. The discharge process took longer than expected, and securing my children in the car caused the slight delay. Britannia Parking showed zero compassion—even POPLA acknowledged my situation but said they couldn’t overturn it due to "contractual terms."

This company:
🔹 Issues excessive fines for minor overstays (£100 for 14 minutes).
🔹 Ignores genuine mitigating circumstances (medical emergencies, young children).
🔹 Hides behind "contractual terms" rather than applying common sense.

Avoid this predatory operator—they care more about profit than people. Shame on Britannia Parking for exploiting stressful situations.

Paid my fine after reading reviews on…

Paid my fine after reading reviews on line indicating that this company is simply a bunch of scumbags dedicated to ripping people off. Interesting that a £60 fine cost me £68.69. Explain that please Britannia Parking. Parked in a pub car park in Braintree (Astronomer Pub) whilst on a stopover before going to Stansted Airport. Not a local so assumed a pub car park is a pub car park. Clearly not. Lesson learnt. Hopefully this company goes under very soon and the main protagonists struggle to find a role sweeping up outside McDonalds.

Warning: Britannia Parking Fines

Warning! If the payment system is down, get out of the car park quickly. "Britannia" will fine you for non-payment if you are there for more than 10 minutes. Their phone "helpline" is useless (perhaps deliberately) and simply wastes a lot more time. Avoid "Britannia" if at all possible, they make a huge amount of money from fines. If you are fined, don't pay before reading the advice from money-saving-expert (and hopefully you won't need to pay at all).

Confuse the customer strategy.

Never any problem with parking at Chelmsford travelodge when dealing with Britannia Parking. Now it appears they are owned by Qpark and complete breakdown when prebooking online. Charge approved to Qpark and pending in my bank transactions but no record of my booking with Britannia. No chance of speaking by phone with either organisation and online chatbots deter any email contact. Not a way to run either company and help customers. But then again, perhaps confusing customers and sloppy administration is part of company strategy. Obviously no chance of getting a company response on this site looking at previous comments.

Beware of this company - they just want to fine you!

Beware of this company! They will scam you into a parking fine using things like: not sending a response to an appeal until it is too late so your fine goes up; not admitting you have 10 minutes leeway at the end of a paid session (under their professional bodies agreement); accusing you of mis-keying your registration; using heavy-handed debt collection techniques with harrassing calls.

If you see its Britannia - my advice - drive on

Incompetent and Incorrect: it is too easy to make money from fines!

My wife paid for parking at a Britannia managed car park, with her Debit Card, but received an Intention to Prosecute two weeks later. This included two photos of the front and back of the car, clearly demonstrating the licence plate (and not much more), recording the time she entered the parking area. We appealed sending the debit card transaction and were successful in our appeal (logically, as the parking had been paid for), but in their acceptance Britannia stated that they had only allowed the appeal because this was a first offence, but that the ticket had not been clearly displayed. This is baloney as the ticket was clearly displayed, and the evidence they used was of the licence plate only (taken on entry), and not of the windscreen/window area where the ticket would be displayed. Therefore they had no evidence but sadly I have no doubt that many have been successfully fined under similar circumstances.

Charged for parking while staying at a hotel. The hire car company automatically paid the fine. In Brittanias T&Cs they state that if the fine is paid you cannot initiate an online claim. I shall be trying to claim a refund by letter.

Unable to contest the parking fine. Richmond HarSpa completely useless too

We are members of the spa so shouldn't have needed to pay however, we ended up paying because we were unable to contest the fine. The spa hotel kept telling us they'd sort it. A month went by and we go a final notice so ended up paying as kept getting fobbed off by everyone in the spa reception who couldn't get hold of them either or just couldn't be bothered to try. Cancelling spa membership now as a result too.

This is a scam company. They know if they don't answer the fine will just go beyond the deadline and you will have to pay.

I would advice people not to touch…

I would advice people not to touch britannia
I used them regular when cash machines in particular glasgow
But now they gone on card payments and car registration via camera,s but if their machine not working you don't put in registration or miss a digit even tho the machine still takes payment and gives you a ticket they send you a £100 fine and there is no leeway with them you might get them down to £20 as I did but now I paid twice because my reg never registered on machine once for parking ticket, and £20 because I can't be bothered spending more hours trying to appeal
If anyone knows how to put a comment on brittania sites let me know as on Facebook they block all comments, and this is only site I know that let's me comment on their bad behavior in my view of harassing and bullying people for extra cash
As I would love to put my experience on as many sites they use for advertising

glasgow high st car park i use quite often
but changed from cash to card ----------
got my ticket, put in details machine asked for payment, accepted via card payment,
but registration of car not fully on reciept,
now they send me letter for £100 fine i send letter telling them i paid and have reciept but have difficulty sending photo from my laptop on their web page give them my phone number and reciept details but they dont want to know i owe £100 i try again and manage to send photo of reciept via my phone now they say i have allready appealled and the matter is over with they will not deal with it anymore go to the ombudsman and appeal to them but if i give them £20 to cover their costs quickly all good but if i dont I owe them £100 now i also send them a copy of bank statement saying payment was taken from my account
my point is why is the machine taking payment and giving me a ticket and me thinking all good
if all their stipulations to apply for a ticket are not being fulfilled,
AND HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE THEY DOING THIS TOO
I personally feel quite stressed and harrassed by this company , demanding money , for something i allready paid for , there is no doubt i paid ,
got reciept, got bank statement, and they also acknowledge the reciept , but not good enough for them the want more £££s

Rip off Britannia

Rip off Britannia. Never use this parking. Paid for 4hr parking in manchester. Over ran by 13m because I could not find the park where I’ve parked. Travelled from Derby to attend a court appeal hearing but they accused me of not paying first. Then when I provided the receipt , they said I overran by 13 min. So according to their rule I have to pay £100. Could pay £60 if I pay earlier. Appealed but reason given was pathetic . I offered to pay for extra half an hour but no. Appealed again to Popla. They said if I appeal again, I lose the right to discount. What a bunch of cowboys running this company. Ripp off Britain . Never use them. Tried to resolve over phone but the European lady could not even understand the hours on the ticket. She said I stayed 9 hrs and didn’t pay. Only stayed 4 hours. Waste of time. I will write to manchester news and Andy Burnum also . These are ripping people off. Unfair justice

Staff member told me not to pay.

I used the Triangle Car Park in Southampton docks to collect my wife and friend from a cruise. I parked near the entrance so my wife knew where I was and proceeded to the nearest ticket machine to pay. I was approaching the machine when a female member of staff exited a booth and shouted, "Are you collecting passengers" "Yes" I said and she replied "You don't need to pay if collecting" I said "Thank you" and returned to my car to call my wife on the phone, I shortly caught sight of her and walked over to help with the luggage and we then left the car park. Today i received a Parking Fine for one hundred pounds after a staff member informed me not to pay. Be very careful.

Avoid Plymouth Harbour Carpark…

Went into Plymouth Harbour Carpark expecting to pay by machine as per, only to find that everything now has to be done by a QR code. Phone reception is naturally awful and there’s no Wi-Fi so I hope you don’t mind a walk. Eventually I complete the process and go about my day only to find a notice for £100 pounds through my door because the website didn’t process it properly. If you’re considering contracting these goons, DON’T!
