Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 130 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found the AI-powered website builder to be unreliable, producing generic or illogical outputs, and struggling to understand user instructions. Customers frequently encountered issues with the platform's stability, including crashes, corrupted edits, and problems with preview loading. The customer service was also a major point of dissatisfaction, with many reporting slow responses, unhelpful bot interactions, and difficulty reaching human support. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that the tool could be effective for smaller tasks or if users were very explicit with their commands. Some also noted that the platform has potential and has shown improvements over time, particularly with integrations.

I wanna cry

I started using bolt.new when they announced the "10M free token" over the weekend. Everything went well. exceptionally well. creating entire landingpages with subpages was so smooth and easy. it made me consider moving away from elementor or other manual builders. i was blown away by how effective, creative and fast an ai builder can be. without hesitation, i decided its worth purchasing the 200$/Month plan to get 120M tokens, so i can do future projects for clients on this site if they arent too complex.

....And then,...suddenly,...they DOWNGRADED THE AI! im not kidding, the very milisecond i paid it started being too stupid to handle the most basic tasks. I thought this might be due to the project size, so i tried entirely new projects. let me give you a example how bolt started behaving after i paid:
1) Create new project (simple one-pager website)
2) ask to change colors from #000000 to #111111 on all buttons
3) get error, wait 60 seconds, get another error
4) ^^ this cycle repeats itself around 5 times
when bolt tries the 6th time, it changes your entire homepage for no reason.
5) you give up. you change the colors yourself. you ask to add a simple 2 column section with a image on the left side and a text on the right side
6) step 3 and 4 are happening again
7) you lost 50$ worth of credits trying to have a image on the left side and a text on the right
these were just examples. NOTHING i mean NOTHING works once you start paying. they are intentionally DOWNGRADING YOUR LLM. you paid already!!! we got you!! why waste or resources providing value when we can just give you the cheapest and oldest ai to build your website, and then spent or resources to honey-trap new users. You might think i have too much free time writing this review, but my 13minutes wasted is nothing compared to the 40 hours i wasted on this software.

🚫 Canceled on Time, Still Charged — and They Deleted My Tokens!

⚠️ Extremely disappointing experience with Bolt.

I was on a paid plan with a 60 million token quota. I canceled my subscription before the renewal date — and even got confirmation from their support that I would still be able to use the remaining tokens I paid for.

But the moment my plan ended:

All my tokens were wiped without warning

The chat interface broke

And despite multiple emails, I got no real response for days

To make things worse, I was still charged $20 after cancellation, and only after pushing support hard did they issue a refund.

Bolt operates on a token/usage-based model, not like Netflix or other AI tools like Vercel’s V0 or Lovable that charge monthly but don’t delete your access to unused credits after cancellation.

If I had known my tokens would vanish, I would’ve used them before canceling. But I was misinformed by their own team — and left with nothing I paid for.

The product itself is powerful, but it also regularly overwrites entire components for small changes, which wastes tokens and can break your code.

Between the lack of transparency, broken UI, and extremely slow support, I can’t recommend Bolt until they fix both their token policies and how they treat customers.

Claude wrapper - why not use Claude?

Bolt.new wants to be in the league of coding assistants like Cursor and Windsurf, but in terms of coding, the features are middling at best. It will often use inconsistent variable names, edit files you did not want edited, and struggles to implement backend while giving preference to FE. Project management, don't even. Your main tools are duplicate, work from stackblitz (requires familiarity with the parent project stackblitz) or import from github. Exporting to zip only goes one way, Bolt cannot re-import a project from a zip file. I've had issues with these such as reverting back to an old version of a project, messages that the project was opened outside of Bolt when it wasn't, etc. I would recommend using Claude directly, managing your own IDE and git repos. In my experience, Bolt creates more issues than it solves.

Overpromise

Overpromise - Underdeliver. Its not all trash but you wont be able to reach whatever you are trying to achieve despite the AI confirming it can do it.

Avoid in case you need customer support

The only thing good is website builder, but then the AI deployed my unfinished page, from some alternative source got my personal phone number (my original webpage that I used had my work phone number so don't even know how AI got my personal number). Now I am stuck with deployed page, unable to unpublish, serious GDPR violations, customer service is ignoring me for days and I am actually forced to take legal actions as my personal data is out there. I will sue them to the ground and I have all the basis for it, multiple emails directed to all the departments, thsi is an absolute joke. The fact the AI web page builder is amazing but people running it are s*it makes it actually very sad.

They will scam you

They will scam you. Bolt's AI agent deletes your work, forcing you to buy more tokens to recreate everything it deleted. A big chunk of my work was deleted by their AI agent the day after I upgraded to their pro plan from the basic plan. They essentially stole half the tokens I paid for. Now it's prompting me to buy more tokens or upgrade to a more expensive plan. Unbelievable. That's a scam, not a legitimate business model.

Tokens disappeared without reason – no resolution yet

I subscribed to the Pro plan and was supposed to receive 20M tokens. I had only used 1.4M, so I still had 18.6M left. Suddenly, my balance dropped to 670K with no explanation. I contacted support immediately and spent hours waiting, but the issue is still unresolved. I wasn’t on any prior plan that could cause token rollover confusion. This has delayed my project, caused stress, and wasted time. I expected better transparency and faster support for a paid service.

tried using Bolt to build a real-world web app. Despite the flashy design and claims of “production-ready” environments, the experience was a mess:

Critical files missing from every export

Promises of 100% completion – repeatedly broken

Endless debugging due to false "everything works" messages

Server responses failed constantly with 500 errors and empty bodies

The ZIP file I downloaded was incomplete multiple times

Took days to debug issues that Bolt's environment itself caused

Even after following every checklist, it simply didn’t work. It’s unreliable for serious projects. Bolt might be fine for experiments or student demos, but not for real app development.

Warning: Don’t trust the “ready to deploy” claims. You'll spend more time fixing basic issues than building your actual product.

Not enough value

I've been a paying user since sometime now but i feel my tokens are just not enough to build that come in the paid membership and recently since the hackathon kicked off platform is extremely slow i'm thinking to leave it as its not so much worth paying, Simply pushing you to go higher and pay more is the idea of the platform

Don’t ever pay for the paid service. Use another app!!!!…

This is one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. If you have any problems and you try to report it, it sends you to discord. There is no way to speak to customer service. The AI is outdated and will use tokens you pay for and just cause errors that cost you to fix and nothing gets fixed. I just used the famous AI at Builder and that is what I recommend everybody use. Stackblitz failed on this one.

I don’t mind chatting with an AI and working step by step. But it should actually understand what I’m asking—it shouldn’t create nonsense with a pretty UI. Right now, it can design a nice interface, but the interactions are terrible and buggy. Even after fine-tuning it with prompts and it saying it ‘understood,’ the results are still disappointing. I’m not going to subscribe

Not worth subscription

Not worth subscription.

You really have to spend lots of money to get something decent.

Even when prompting really good, still just create something out of the blue, rather than creating what you prompted. Moreover, especially with the new update, when I try to select and edit anything with simple task and a simple prompt, it just keep giving errors and your money is being burned for no result.

Use lovable, way more accurate.

IMPACTED BY BOLT.NEW

Bolt.new has worked well and provided good results overall. However, it’s important to note that to get precise answers and very specific commands, the user needs to be very explicit and communicate clearly and in detail. If you give well-explained instructions, the tool responds efficiently, but if not, the results may not be as accurate. In summary, a good option if you know exactly what you need and how to ask for it.
