The Swedish tax agency needed some old data from me that I had with Bokio. When I asked for it from Bokio (which is a legal requirement), they refused to give it to me unless I bought a yearly subscription amounting to roughly 4500 Swedish Kronor (450 dollars). They are a disgusting parasite of a "company" that hold your data hostage until they can bleed you dry. To anyone thinking of signing up with them, do yourself a favour and stay well clear!

Ransomware - Avoid, Avoid, Avoid
I signed up for a free Bokio account and have spent many hours entering my company data.
I logged in today and they are demanding a Premium payment of £74.85 (quarterly payment) to be able to access my data.
If I try to export my data to leave Bokio - I again get redirected to pay £74.85.
This is tantamount to blackmail.
Avoid Bokio at all costs - they cannot be trusted with your data.
Service quality of a Nigerian scam, avoid at all cost
I had the free version for about 2 years, to be able to invoice a few costumers every year. Until someone from the company just called, basically saying that I had to pay now or all my accountancy would be blocked.
The person on the phone says I will have a refund, but Bokio's website mention a 'gift card' at a random website full of bugs.
How can a company go that bad??? Is it even allowed by the Swedish consumer rights?
To reach such a bad quality of service, it must be close to bankruptcy…

Use the customers like us to develop their website, then start to increase their fees from free of charge to monthly fees to 3 times the monthly fees. Which is crazy!
Now it's better to start to try (dooer) which is totally free.

Bokio Free was awesome then came a series of big disappointments:
1) årsredovisning onlone will set you back 1000+ SEK (hidden cost)
2) They canceled free which was the whole selling point only allowing paid alternative
3) now came info that they will destroy all records if you don't upgrade
Just a real human accountant is the same price by now and the customer handling is utterly crap. Wouldn't trust them in the future regardless of any promise or claim
Once a great service going straight downhill
Was once a great service. Promised to be free forever. Started taking away important features one after one from customers rather than adding new things to get customers to pay. Finally decided to remove the free plan completely on 1 month notice and increase the prices 50%. Company was sold with a special clause giving them more money if they managed to convert more free users. Would never trust them again and would highly recommend against them.

I am extremely disappointed with Bokio's recent changes to their pricing structure and the removal of their free plan. It feels like a complete betrayal of their loyal users, and I cannot help but express my frustration.
First and foremost, the decision to eliminate the free plan is a clear money grab. Bokio used to be a valuable resource for small businesses and freelancers who needed basic accounting services without breaking the bank. But now, they have abandoned their commitment to affordability by forcing users into paid plans. This move is particularly harsh considering that many users relied on the free plan to manage their finances, and they are left with no choice but to find an alternative solution. Small businesses, startups, and freelancers, who often operate on tight budgets, will find it difficult to justify the cost of using Bokio.
To add insult to injury, Bokio's billing practices are shady at best. I was billed for a full month of premium for 4 days of service. Why? They charge for you for each calendar month and not for a month of use, unlike any other SaaS solution. It's astonishing that they have the audacity to charge users for services they haven't used fully. This showcases a complete lack of empathy for their customers.
In conclusion, the recent changes at Bokio have left a bitter taste in my mouth. Their removal of the free plan, outrageous pricing, and unfair billing practices make it clear that they prioritize profits over their users' needs. I strongly advise anyone considering Bokio to think twice and explore alternative accounting solutions that value their customers and provide transparent pricing.
Increased the price 50% without adding value for my case
They increased the price without adding value for my particular case. The reason I use bokio is because it was lightweight and inexpensive. Seems like they completely ignore those users that been there from the beginning that choose it because it was a free/inexpensive app. First time they change the plan I went along and started paying for it. But now suddenly a 50% increase in price is heafty for me without added value. After this experince I do not feel treated with care by this company. I can not do anything else but voting with my money and put them in a competitor.

Rotten business practice to give only 1 month's notice when hiking the fees and dropping the free plan. No way am I going to pay £25/m for the 3 transactions/m in my microbiz. Can't they have a lower tier, or provide some useful value-add like electronic CT filing?

Bokio has blindsided its customers. The "free forever" plan is now GBP 24.95 per month (billed quarterly)
Bokio has just blindsided its customers by completely removing the "free forever" plan with one month's notice, and simultaneously removing the option to pay monthly, forcing payments to be quarterly and making the quarterly fee GBP24.95 * 3 = GBP 74.85.. all in one fell swoop.
Therefore, a microentity like my UK company that does a handful of transactions a year now needs to pay GBP75 to record some journals, download a P&L and a Balance Sheet.
This is the clearest bait-and-switch scheme any (supposedly reputable) company has ever pulled on me. I can only call Bokio a scam going forward and dissuade everyone I know from going anywhere near them.
Of course Bokio needs to earn money, but this scam-move reeks of greed, low ethics and inconsistency.
Years of "free forever" marketing (which still shows up in my Google searches at the time of writing) have lured small companies and freelancers into their midst, and instead of recognizing the needs of such a massive part of their customer base, and having a more reasonable, tiered suite of options, they've pulled this nonsense. For example, they could have retained the free forever plan and done a pay-for-value model where persons on the free plan pay GBP10 to download their P&Ls every year - a la Canva. But instead, after years of piling our data into their system and integrating them into our processes we are knocked back to Excel.
Stay away from Bokio. They've done similar things before with their pricing changes and they will do it again. Use one of their competitors or excel.
They entice you to use the free plan…
They entice you to use the free plan then they suddenly say that "free users were not happy with the free plan" so it is not available anymore but upgrade is available for 20 GBP per month. Joke. There are many more options who have transparent business conduct.
From best to worst
No more free plan, hiring prices for 50% and a bunch of features I don't need as a freelancer who only sends invoices and doesn't need all the features. I will switch to some competitors after my plan runs out.
I can't believe how greedy you have become in the last two years and not caring about the core user group, It's a real shame!
Edit (reply): To be clear; I have been on a paid plan since the beginning and I don´t bother paying. And it´s a shame because I think Bokio is good and with some reasonable plans for freelance clients like me I would stay...
By removing the free plan you are losing potential clients not to mention that changing what you stood by will make you lose existing clients that are on paid plans. Also, your corporate-style written answer doesn´t make any sense to me since your actions are the opposite of your statements.
But yeah I forgot, Bokio got bought out by a competitor - so yeah what do you do in a capitalistic world? Make Bokio so bad that people come over to your main product and at the same time keep it running on overpriced plans as long as there are people on it who don't bother/know better.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER
Worst customer service I've ever received. The sale staff has been calling me to sell their product even after working time and when I asked for help with the program I never got the right answer to solve my problems. The customer support email is also very bad, they never take the case seriously, just like they're replying to get work done but never give a sh__t to customers at all. I moved from Visma because someone told me Bokio is better but I guess people are wrong.
