I've been wearing Black Milk fashions for years and order regularly. I'm hooked on the comfortable clothing and fabulous limit edition licensed prints that actually credit the artists. The custome... See more

I was excited to try out Blackmilk after stalking the website for several years. I decided to take the plunge on the Rivendell skirt and the stained glass Eevie dress for an event I have planned. I was really disappointed in the quality, for the price point I expected much better fabrics. Especially the Rivendell skirt which is unlined, unhemmed and just really badly made. Despite following their sizing guide and measuring, both items were massively too large.
I am torn about BlackMilk!
+: Their designs / collabs can be gorgeous and unique.
+: The size chart seems accurate (although not very inclusive)
+: They are mostly transparent about delicacy & care instructions for used materials.
-: The fabric / materials often do *not* reflect their price point.
-: Was hoping for ethical production, but some still made-in-China; hit or miss.
-: They gatekeep leaving reviews on their own website / product pages.
For my two orders (late 2022 and late 2023), I haven't had to deal with their customer service. So can't comment on that. Delivery (to the US) has been fine, no added customs duties in my case.
I love BlackMilk's visual aesthetic, but the price point is *not* justified by the materials they chose to use. I understand that ethical production would be expensive, and hopefully they pay their designers / artists well. But as other reviewers have mentioned; some stuff is produced elsewhere anyway - and you can't sell made-in-China polyester for high-end prices!
I greatly dislike how they seem to gatekeep reviews on their own website / product pages. That's a red flag for me. I don't know how they collect / invite website reviews ('cause there are some), but I haven't been able to find any option to do so.
My first order was two overalls (1 long, 1 short). Wish they weren't polyester & fleece-lined, especially the short ones (why does an Australian company pride themselves on 'toasty fleece' fabric?). I do happily wear the long ones in colder months, and they wash well.
This winter, I caved and ordered a robe and skirt from their stunning Moonbound Studio artist collaboration, plus the Night Swimming ocean print robe.
The Night Swimming robe was worth the sale price I'd say; it's a gorgeous design in a decently heavy velvet. This item does say made in Australia. My main qualm & why I only bought it on sale, is the white lining - especially since the wide sleeves 'fall' in a way that shows the lining a lot! Would have been sooo much better with a black or blue lining. Also, unfortunately no pockets.
The Moonbound robe is CRAPPY material. Clingy, thin, static-y, cheap, and blah. Again, sadly white on the inside, which just looks unfinished. The beautiful (!) outer print only barely makes it wearable. I'd be super upset if I'd paid full price, and low-key upset at the discounted price I paid.
The Moonbound skirt is flowy, although also a bit cheap-feeling, and the fabric type makes the print more muted / less saturated than I'd hoped. I was low-key expecting this; and why I waited for it to be significantly marked down. Again, the creative design is genius (but that's to the Moonbound Studio artist's credit, not BlackMilk).
So, in conclusion; I try to avoid buying BlackMilk products despite their cute designs, and only buy on sale when I truly can't resist a piece. Sad that so many people say they used to be much better! I wonder what changed, and why?
Huge decline in quality. Stitching is coming undone the first time buttons go through the button hole, front hoodie pocket completely detaching. Super Mario leggings had iron on designs that pealed off.
I used to love this company, I was a loyal customer for 9 years. Can't justify buying from them anymore though when you are expected to pay $100 or more for what is now made in China and worse quality than what you can buy off wish for a tenth of the price.
Bought a kimono. The print in itself was gorgeous. When it arrived it was the worst possible material I have ever encountered. Thin, shiny, clingy and see through with absolutely no backing whatsoever so every single thread can be seen on the other side. Not to mention the actual shape of it so that you can not lift your arms up because the sleeves are so low.
For something that costs over a hundred dollars to be made with such poor quality material and pattern it's a insult to myself and others that actually sew clothes. There's no way that I can even rescue this monstrosity by taking it apart and re-sewing properly with backing fabric. I absolutely hate the fabric. It's clingy and sticky.
So much for the fact that when they first started (of which I still have pieces) they were a top quality Australian designer. It's like getting something from Temu or Wish!
Ordered a dres with a harnes! Wore said dress with the harnes and the dress was snagged and pulled after 20 minutes. BM reaction: “that happens” $200 out and the dress will be donated l! Horrible customer service!
Thieves. Charged me for express post shipping and then failed to provide it. Horrendous customer service. Avoid at all costs!!!
Moon print pattern dress cost like $70 and it feels like cheap clothing off of Amazon.
I really can't give a better review after my 2 experiences purchasing from this company. I have followed them for years, liking the concept, and my first purchase in May of 2023 was a pair of cuffed Eeveelution pants. They came to over $108 before shipping and duties, and I was disappointed in what I received: the outer fabric was fine, but the inner lining was a bizarre heat-retaining almost fleecy fabric that made me sweat and does not wash well. Not only that, but the print does not extend within the pant leg, so if I roll the pants up any further, the print disappears. Disappointing for the most expensive pants I own.
I ordered again this past September, purchasing 2 dresses: the Butterfree Romance Dress for $95.71 CAD and the Velvet Black Squared Up Bishop A-Line Dress for $78.15 CAD (I believe it was on sale). Again, I was disappointed -- the Butterfree dress has a cheap lining beneath a mesh-like printed layer, and despite the lining and the near-luxury level pricing for an everyday dress, the lining fails to mask the colour and print of the undergarments I wear below the dress. Yes, under a pink, printed, lined dress that cost over $95, I *STILL* have to make sure I wear neutral undergarments. This is ridiculous to me.
Now, the velvet... I ordered it in a XS, the same size I ordered the Butterfree dress and the Eeveelution pants in, which both fit very well. This dress, however, fits at least a full size -- maybe even two sizes -- smaller! Yes, there IS a size guide on the site, and no, I did not consult it (I did for my Eevee pants), as I did not think there would be such a degree of sizing inconsistency with a costly brand like this.
I won't be shopping here any longer, no matter how cute the designs may be, because I have consistently been disappointed by the product after spending so much.
I bought a nice dress, the first package came but because nobody was home ( people work) they send it back. All the way back from Germany to Australia instead of giving it to a neighbor??? And then because I complained they did a second dispatch. Apparently it came yesterday night. I received nothing.
I lost money and nerves.
the most horrendous return system your eyes have ever seen! first time ordering from them because I remember how coveted they were back in the day. the quality was horrible. super thin “silky” material that you could get at primark or kohls. I mean heck, kohls may have better quality. anyway - Im in the process of returning and the amount of hoops you have to go through to return is outlandish. do NOT order from this company.
I used to love Blackmilk. Even despite the huge import costs - the fabrics used to be amazing, and totally worth it. I still have a skirt, two tops and leggings from before 2019, that are all thick, wonderful fabrics, with no visible faults (after constant wearing).
Now the current blackmilk.. eh.. its still pretty, but the quality has dropped like a brick. Bought cuffed pants, wore them a few months, washed twice and they have turned awful. The butt-zone has lost most of its print, its also stretched. The tops feel synthetic and unpleasant when worn(most of them), the dresses as well. I don't buy from them anymore, even if the print is amazing. I just can't justify spending that much + all the import fees for something that is literally Made in China.
This was my first time purchasing from BlackMilk mainly because of the Sailor Moon collaboration they had. Overall, I’m pretty impressed with their quality and how smoothly the release went! However, because I live in Canada I had to pay a lot of money in duty fees on top of the $330 that I already paid for three items. In my opinion, even though the quality is great, I personally think the price could’ve been a little bit lower, but I do understand it was a limited edition of collaboration. I would definitely purchase from them again but not for a while! Other than that, I like the customer service, the quality, and the fact that they shipped fairly quickly! I just think in the future they probably should include duty fees within the purchases, so I don’t have to worry about it. I’d rather pay everything all at once.
I've purchased Black Milk since 2014. The company was really at peak performance with hand made quality and accurate sizing. Ever since they started a workshop in China things have gone downhill. They're not pushing down prices either but the opposite. And the quality is HORRENDOUS! I could wear one pair of leggings almost every day for 3(!) years until they finally started wearing down. Now I'm lucky that the seams will last for 3-4 months with only little to moderate use. I'd say STAY AWAY from this company, at this rate the only thing they're milking black is your wallet.
And if you really wanna buy something, get it on a sale.
I’ve been buying from black milk for ages and I’m so happy with all of my purchases. This is a good brand for people of a larger size that want to get that princess feel from a dress. All of the clothing I have I wear very frequently and when washed correctly last so long. Every time I wear one I get complimented on my dress
I LOVE BLACK MILK!!!
I order internationally, never had any shipping problems. I love the cloths!! Very good quality, long lasting (as long as you wash and dry them as delicates!), so special and unique. I'm also quite happy with the prices. I've been buying Black Milk stuff for about 3 years now and I'm happy as can be (:
They used to make unique, relatively well-made clothing but the quality tanked while the prices went up after they decided to embrace fast fashion tactics, they have embraced vanity sizing so their XS is often very oversized and they got rid of XXS in half their cuts so they no longer make much for small women, and whoever is running their brand doesn’t know what they are doing in basic tasks. They will do unprofessional stuff like claim to have “oversold” something as if they are an airline when they clearly aren’t good at basic inventory. A good company knows if you have 10 of something, you list the stock availability as 8 or 9. I’ve never seen a clothing company working so hard to go out of business.
I order three items from BM after hearing good things from a friend. These items were expensive and the material used is not! These items are from China and I can guarantee are not worth the $250 I paid. Extremely disappointed that an $85 pair of leggings would be see through! The lot is being sent back. I could get the same quality from Shein and Wish.
Even tho the price for the leggings are super expensive I decided to give it a try. The size that was suggested for me was M and I am not an M, I'm a large but decided to get M like the website told me to. It fits tightly but its ok since I prefer like that, hope it doesn't rip. I feel like if you don't want a super tight fit just go with your true size and disregard what the website says.
But the leggings don't look expensive at all. They look cheap for what it was charged and I'm from Canada. They charged a fee of $40 for delivery. As much as I liked the leggings and will be using them, I will not buy from there again because the price is not worth it.
Excellent speed of delivery. Pictures were great. My fault for not reading the description of the fabrics, i were totally expecting it to be 100% cotton….. I got them and was big disappointed I spent nearly $300 on something I’ll probably gotta give away bc of the fake fabrics lol
If you like something that’s nylon and synthetic materials then this is definitely recommended the design is awesome just unfortunately not cotton hahahah
