Really disappointed with how this company handled a clear issue with one of their garments.
I bought a top back in September and had only worn it a couple of times when the lining at the front hem started curling and pulling inward. I sent photos showing this, and it clearly looks like the lining has tightened or been sewn incorrectly, causing it to roll inside the garment.
Instead of addressing the fault shown in the photos, the response focused almost entirely on how the garment had been washed. Their email asked me to confirm whether the top had been washed on a “gentle machine wash”, which already assumes the washing method rather than simply asking how the garment had actually been washed.
In my reply I said it had been washed cold and gently. I did not say that it had been machine washed.
They then claimed the care instructions hadn’t been followed because the garment had supposedly been machine washed. That’s not what I said. The term “machine wash” came from their own email asking me to confirm a “gentle machine wash”, which framed the situation in a way that allowed them to blame the washing rather than address the fault with the garment.
The initial response also relied heavily on their returns policy, stating they cannot accept items that have been worn or washed. However, I wasn’t requesting a change-of-mind return — I was raising a potential fault with the garment. Using the standard returns policy in this context felt like an attempt to shut down the issue rather than properly assess the fault.
They also suggested that because the item was purchased six months ago, the issue must be due to “normal wear and tear”, stating that manufacturing faults usually appear during the first wear or wash. That assumption ignores the photos provided, which clearly show the lining twisting and pulling inside the garment — something that points to a construction or lining issue rather than general wear.
The tone of the final response was also dismissive, even offering “tips on caring for delicate fabrics”, which came across as patronising and shifts the blame onto me rather than acknowledging the visible problem with the garment.
Overall, the wording throughout the responses felt leadingly framed. Rather than simply asking how the garment had been washed, the question was phrased as “gentle machine wash”, which introduced a washing method I had never mentioned and was later used to shift responsibility for the issue onto me instead of addressing the fault with the lining.
At this point it’s less about the refund and more about how the situation was handled. The issue with the lining was never properly addressed.

I received a faulty dress and trying to remedy the situation has been a nightmare - my last email has not been responded to. I've asked for an exchange, they wouldn't do that which I've accepted, as I'm happy with a store credit or refund, but now I've not had a respond. The products are poor quality and they are truly charging a premium for them. Far better off spending alot more for something that is going to last.

purchased 2 size 10 dresses in store and also purchased 2 size 10 dresses online, unfortunately 1 of the dresses purchased online does not fit, when I contacted Billy J customer service to ask if I could please exchange the dress for the next size up I was flatly refused because it’s a sale item, very poor customer service and support….. all size 10 dresses and 1 actually doesn’t fit at all, look at the big picture…. your product is sized incorrectly and the customer is now out of pocket…. that’s a definite no from me for ever spending another $ with Billy J. the purchases were made on 1/3/26 both instore and online, the phone interaction was 6/3/26

I am so disappointed with this retailer, I bought the Auria off the shoulder maxi dress in plum colour. Sadly the dress I received looked nothing like the elegant structured dress in their website. Instead it was a cheap poorly made dress with a flimsy bodice that was a far cry from what they advertised on their website. I paid $134 for a dress that is likely sold on Temu or SHEIN for under a $80. I lodged a return and posted the iitem with the printed label and a week later had not received any updates. In fact it still shows on their website Refunded app that the return was at lodgement stage. Just for comparison I posted SHEIN returns at the same time as the Billy J return and my refund has already been processed.

I ordered one dress from them and what I got is available on Temu/Shein for a few $. Loose threading, bad stitching. Customer Service offered a 10% discount, which is ridiculous looking at the price they charge. They advertise: we love our planet, compostable bags etc but the product inside is cheap plastics. When I try to return the website charges me for return cost. Stay away!

I bought a dress that was far too big and they won’t do exchanges on sale items for a smaller size. Outrageous customer service from them and will never buy from them again. Be careful when buying.

I ordered 2 dresses before Christmas but they never arrived. Billy J looked into it straight away and found out that it's been lost in transit. I didn't pay the extra insurance but Billy J in goodwill issued a store credit for me to use. Thanks Billy J.

I purchased a lovely T-Shirt dress, size M. Just after I put my order in I read the reviews and every person mentioned to down size one or two sizes and the dress is massively oversized. It does not mention this btw.
So I quickly sent an email for them to exchange order from Med to Small. I gave them more than enough time to simply change it over and they hadn’t express posted it yet. They sent me back this generic message that made no sense.
I received my dress within a few days and it was massive. I had to take it to get altered and that costed me $50. I couldn’t return it because I needed it for the weekend.
Not happy with the service Billy J !!! 😔

I dont know why I keep ordering form this boutique! You pay $12 for EXPRESS Shipping only to see your parcel go from Burnside, QLD, which is the sunshine coast region, only to fly off to Melbourne for an overnight stay & then hopefully makes it way back to the Gold Coast. It originally was meant to be here yesterday or today now it doesnt even look like it will arrive before I leave for my event tomorrow morning. So then ill be returning it. How can you charge for EXPRESS when it clearly is not. As a business myself, Ive posted products out by lunch and they've arrived to the sunshine coast by the next day so why is this so hard for this store? disappointing to say the least

I purchased am outfit . I then had a knee replacement. My outfit was too small. So when I was able to drive and get around I took it back to exchange for something else. I had the receipt. The bag I bought in and tags were still on. THEY WOULD NOT EXCHANGE FOR ANYTHING. THIS IS DISGUSTING SERVICE. WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN . DISGUSTING

Really good quality, very fast delivery but am really upset at their lack of dress descriptions, i'm a bridesmaid, and we all were wearing champagne coloured dresses (different styles) all purchased from billyJ, yet I was super upset to find that my champagne colour didn't match some of the other bridesmaids dresses. There were 2 sets of champagne colours within the 'Champagne' 'bridesmaid dress' category. With many now having to repurchase and refund our dresses.

The sizing was ridiculously large, I returned for a swap to a smaller size - had to pay return shipping, was given a credit, only to have to pay shipping again. 3 lots of shipping for 1 item due to sizing. Customer service was not willing to assist so I got a refund. I won't be purchasing from this store again, Absolute nightmare to deal with.

I have received some nice items from BillyJ but as an international customer, all of the risk of shopping with them is placed on you. You can’t see the fabrics or try the items on, as is normal for online shopping. But they’ll charge you $23 for international shipping, and then they’ll charge you $27.60 to return an item. It’s $50 for the pleasure of just seeing and trying on a single item, and it isn’t worth it when the quality of the pieces is variable and the fit is not consistent across styles. Shop somewhere else like the Iconic or other sellers that offer at least free shipping in one direction rather than making the customer bear the full risk of online shopping

I was extremely disappointed with the quality of my dress - I had high hopes given all their good reviews. It already had a hole in it and felt very cheap - I had to have it tailored to repair it so ended up spending way more than I should have on it as I needed it for a wedding (it already was way overpriced for the quality). Responses were very delayed from customer service when I reached out and their 'compensation' was laughable - the best they could offer was a 30% partial refund. I had my eye on so many pieces and was so excited to finally purchase something. If their customer service was better I would have been a returning customer.

They never offered a full refund like they're saying they did. They initially only offered a partial refund of 20% and said I'm "entitled to other options". I voiced I wasn't happy with that and asked what else they could do and that's when they made it 30%... I said that was disappointing but if that was the best they could do it was better than nothing. They then came back saying they had processed it...
Nowhere did they offer a full refund!
