A few other people also felt that the online-only format limited the ability to individualize advice and that some recommendations were vague or contradictory. There were also instances where customers felt unsupported during urgent situations, experiencing delays in responses, and some noted that their dogs' behavior worsened despite following the advice.

Behavet is an amazing company

Behavet is an amazing company, Tom Mitchell has been my behaviourist and helped me so much not just with my boy Bear, but supports me too. Bear needed to be crate rested for 6 wks as an 18wk old puppy which has had lifelong recuperations, challenges surfacing from time to time. He also struggles with anxiety and Tom is helping me to help him with various coping strategies and monitoring his medication. Cannot recommend Behavet enough, they are awesome.

Highly recommend

As a dog trainer and behaviour consultant I have found the resources and support that Behavet offer to be incredibly helpful, providing up to the minute, evidence based research that underpins all the material they offer. Tom Mitchell and his team are very highly qualified, dedicated and passionate about helping pet parents to have the skills to help their companions to survive and thrive in the world. Caring, kind and compassionate, with a wealth of techniques and plans that work! I have very much enjoyed all the courses I have attended, and have recommended Behavet to some of my clients when the expertise of a vet behaviourist opinion is required, with excellent results. I would highly recommend!

Wow!

Wow! My experience with Behavet has been first class and in following the programme that was put together specifically for my dog, I’ve got amazing results for my dog’s struggles with environmental distractions. He is now really choosing to engage with me and disengages easily from things that he once found very difficult to ignore. The plan was easy to follow, not overwhelming at all and the team are so welcoming, they work with your needs in mind too! There’s loads of support offered and they are genuinely keen and determined to help you and your dog get the results you want.

Dr Tom and Dr Anita have been so…

Dr Tom and Dr Anita have been so helpful. My Westie was a challenge from puppyhood and their guidance has really helped Reggie transform into a much calmer and pretty cool dog. They have also helped me feel that I am a good owner and his behaviour was not my fault. Everything I have learned through Behavet has always been positive, ethical, and the results speak for themselves. Always good humoured, I wouldn’t go anywhere else if my next dog needs behaviour help.

Very positive feedback both personally and professionally

As a vet I have referred several clients to Behavet as I honestly believe they have the most up to date training and behaviour knowledge. I have also used their service for my own dogs, one had massive struggles and more recently for our new pup to make sure we don’t make as many mistakes this time round!!! They are totally online, which in this day and age is becoming the norm, and to be honest I think it does work. Dr Anita has been our clinician but I have had feedback from several owners who have used many of the vets and been very happy.
As with all behaviour work, the results come from the work put in by the owner, and there is no magic pill or wand! That said the concepts are clear and easy to follow and can be implemented without any fuss. As a busy person I can attest to the 3-5mins a few times a day makes a difference!!
Any hiccups can be chatted through and the videos they send are well put together and explain the concepts well.
I have seen some reviews that talk about costs, but this is an area of expertise that not all vets are trained in and requires much further study and education even after gaining your MRCVS, so I think it is justified. Also the fact that appointments are available on weekends and evenings to make for owner convenience is a godsend.
I find the behavet team fun, friendly and approachable. I have no affiliation to them and until my own struggles had not heard of them so can give an honest review based solely on experience.

Dog behaviour

Due to the changes in our dogs behaviour, becoming territorial and showing aggression, our local vet recommended behavet. We were apprehensive about the first call as we’ve been so concerned about how different our dog has become. After the call with Dr Cindy, we feel more confident that she can help. It really opened our eyes to the things we discussed and now more open to signs after we answered her questions before giving us a plan. The plan that we’ve had personalised to us, is not unrealistic either and is manageable. We really recommend behavet and feeling more confident that they will be able to assist us and our fur baby for the future.

We had our first consultation yesterday…

We had our first consultation yesterday as my puppy suffers from separation anxiety. Our consultation went really well and opened our eyes into why our puppy acts the way she does. There is ongoing email support between consultations which i think is really helpful. We have a great plan in place and looking forward to seeing how things progress.

Exorbitant fees

I signed up for a consultation and then was asked to complete a form including ticking the box for agreeing to T&Cs.
The terms and conditions state the consultation fees. I was stunned to read that the first consultation is £635 and subsequent sessions £435.
I acknowledge that I peronally would only pay £25 and the rest would be paid by my insurance company. However, if our insurance companies are paying out this kind of money then this must surely impact on the costs of all of our insurance even if not directly.
I do not understand how any vet or animal behaviourist can in good faith charge such a high fee.
Our contact directly with vets treating our animals does not cost half of that and they have clinics to maintain.
Whilst the practitioners may be very good as stated in other reviews I cannot bring myself to burden animal owners with this kind of burden being added to all owners' insurance premiums.

Reply from Behavet

Hi Christine,

Many thanks for taking the time to contact us via the review platform. I note that you have not actually worked with us at Behavet, but rather are making an observation regarding the fees we charge as Veterinary Behaviourists, and queries on the cost of Veterinary care in general. Please let me put your mind at ease here.

As you have mentioned in your review, we are able to work directly with many insurance companies to offer direct claims for Behavioural treatment. This is reserved only for reputable and qualified practitioners (notably Veterinary professionals in our case) and is testament to the qualifications of our team.

At Behavet, our team are Veterinarian Behaviourists. This is a specific type of highly-qualified behaviour clinician, and our fees are some of the lowest within the field of Veterinary Behaviour, which is a highly specialised field, and not comparable to a general trainer.

The fees for our initial consultation cover over 3 hours of preparatory work, an additional 1-2-1 consultation which lasts 1.5 hours as a minimum, and unrestricted communication with our Veterinary Behaviourists via email after the session. Therefore, our fees are much lower than standard general practice Veterinary fees, where the average consultation length is 15 minutes.

I understand the confusion regarding insurance premiums. Each insurer has different rules for how and when they increase a client's insurance premiums, and this is the same for whichever type of treatment is being sought (including general medicine). Making a direct claim with Behavet is not guaranteed to increase your insurance premium, and it's best to check with your insurer to establish the cause of the premium increase if you have noticed this.

I hope that helps! As you have mentioned, you are insured with one of the insurance companies that we are able to make a direct claim with. Therefore, you would be able to access consultations with only a £25 out-of-pocket excess payment (provided that all of our pre-consultation checks with your insurer come back clear). Therefore, if you'd like to continue through the booking process and be able to access our specialised team, please don't hesitate to let us know!

We look forward to working with you soon.

Many thanks,
Madeleine

This was our first consultation

This was our first consultation so our experience of BEHVET is small. Our experience to date gives us the impression that the company is well organised and supported with experienced staff.
Our consultant put us at ease and showed an interest and desire to assist us in solving our dogs problems. The pointers and exercises given to us are easy to apply albeit needing time to see results.

Unethical, hidden costs deducted at end of contract. Be warned.

On the initial call I was very clear about knowing the cost of the service and was told it was £350 per month. With much consideration I decided to go ahead. £350 was deducted from my account and I was reassured that this was aligned with our discussion.

Then I gave notice.

Imagine my horror on discovering I was charged not £350 but £635 the first month and £435 the second month. The charges were applied retrospectively on the final day, without warning or discussion .

I still don’t know.

Unfortunately, my attempts to query and resolve the issue gets a monotone response.

This unethical behaviour needs to be called out and potential customers out there need to be aware that ANY amount can be deducted from their account on the final day of the contract. Scary!

Hi Debbie,

We’re sorry to hear that you feel disappointed, and we’d like to clarify a few details to avoid any confusion. Our team — including Dr. Bridget and Dr. Anita — went above and beyond to continue offering clinical advice and behavioural support even after your plan had ended, to help you achieve positive progress with your dog. This reflects the genuine care, professionalism, and ethical standards that underpin everything we do at Behavet.

As explained during your booking call, the package you selected operates as a payment plan, allowing clients to spread the cost of their specialised veterinary treatment over several months. In line with our terms and conditions (which are reviewed with every client before booking), there may be a remaining balance if the plan is cancelled early — this ensures that the cost of services already provided is covered fairly.

At Behavet, we pride ourselves on providing transparent, ethical, and compassionate veterinary care, and we’re always happy to discuss any concerns directly to ensure clarity and understanding.

Warm regards,
The Behavet Team

An incredibly positive and rewarding…

An incredibly positive and rewarding experience!
Dr Celyn at Behavet has been helping me with my very anxious and overwhelmed Spaniel. Her knowledge and expertise, as well as her kindness and understanding, have made a huge difference to our day-to-day lives. Celyn has given me the skills and tools to manage even the most difficult of situations. My girl has gone from being totally controlled by her fear/anxiety/excitement overwhelm (with walks being almost impossible) to being a more confident dog, more focused on me, able to listen (even in stressful situations), and make good decisions because she can now stop and think instead of just panicking. It has taken a lot of hard work, time, effort and patience, but the changes in my dog are amazing.
I would recommend Behavet without hesitation. Their explanations and knowledge far surpass any of the other trainers I have tried. Behavet have a different way of doing things, and you need to put in the effort to see results, but it is so worth it. My girl is doing so well that, after eleven months, we have ‘graduated’. I have so much confidence in what we have learned and implemented. Onwards and forwards!

wouldn’t recommend

wouldn’t recommend. we paid £700 for two video calls where the advice was very generic — mostly things you can find for free online. we voiced our concerns but were just told to double down on the same techniques we’d already tried. as experienced dog owners, we didn’t feel listened to, and they didn’t take the time to understand what we’d already been doing.

after switching to a vet and trainer in london for face-to-face sessions, we learned our dog likely needed medication alongside training — and since then, the improvement has been night and day. behavet’s model seems rigid, overly expensive, and limited by the fact they never actually meet your dog. if your dog is struggling with anxiety like ours was, i’d really recommend finding a local vet-led behaviourist instead.

we’re also currently in a dispute with them after they continued charging us even after cancellation.

Hi Lizzie,

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. We absolutely appreciate your comments and I wanted to take some time to respond to them to help complete the picture, as your review touches on some points which need further explanation.

Firstly, regarding the dispute you lodged via your card issuer - please note that we offered a refund on your final payment of £350, but this was complicated by the creation of the card dispute as it means that, given the card dispute, there was potential for the refund to go through twice. However, you'll note that you have now received the refund back to your account as we let your card issuer know that we were happy to honour the refund. I hope that clarifies this for you.

I'm so pleased to hear that you are experiencing a positive improvement in your dog's behaviour with a trainer in London. On reviewing your correspondence with your Behavet Veterinarian Behaviourist, I note that you mentioned that you had found considerable improvement with many of the strategies in your Behavet plan after the first consultation - such as meaningless movement - and that you also had concerns regarding pain. There were some key suggestions provided by your clinician in this regard.

From reviewing your correspondence, I can see that you ultimately decided that face-to-face sessions would be a better fit for your journey with your dog, and I absolutely appreciate that this is a personal choice. We have provided you with your recordings of your sessions and your bespoke plan. If you ever need our help in the future, including our help to liaise with your Veterinarian regarding the pain management and its impact on behaviour, we are more than happy to help.

Wishing you every success in your behaviour improvement journey.

Many thanks,
Madeleine
