We have recently moved to Ireland from Belgium with my wife and family, and have purchased a new vehicle.
We have been driving in Ireland for the last 6 months (on and off for the moving process) and 2 months full time (we moved permanently in early March 2026). We both had respectively 20+ years and 10+ years of driving experience with no claims proof, from a Belgian car insurance, and wanted to insure our vehicle with Aviva. The process was smooth, until the underwriters decided that the no claims proof was "invalid" for some obscure reason, and had us pay more than triple the initial quote and requested telematics to be installed, which was quite insulting given our combined driving experience with no claims. So much for the European Union "single market".

I have now spent 2 hours trying to renew my car policy online. Now I realise you need two platforms ie devices to complete the insurance. I hadn't downloaded the Aviva App so couldn't verify the push notification so had to then download the app on my laptop. Also I was given the quote for the car insurance BEFORE I was asked about my other insurance policies even tho' it said that having a second or more insurance policy would mean I'd get a reduction on the car insurance. In fact I have two household policies with Aviva but could only fill in one/ I dread having to go through all of this again when I come to insure these houses in July.

Just off the phone from car renewal insurance with Aislinn/Aisling. She was extremely helpful trying to sort a quote for my elderly dad and she couldn't do enough.

I am very disappointed in Aviva I have had my car insurance with them for over 10 years no problem there.
I have had my house insurance with them since last year. I got my quote for this year and it is over 200 euro more than last year. That is ridiculous so much for looking after good customers.
I went onto bonkers.ie and got a quote from aviva as a new customer over 100 euro less than what aviva quoted me as a renewing customer.
How can that be justified.
Will move all my insurance business to a different company that will look after their regular customers.
Am still waiting for Aviva to get back to me to explain how they can justify charging a regular customer over 100 euro more than a new customer. Also how can my quote be over 200 euro more than last year. Just doesn't make any sense.
What kind of an answer is that. I want an explanation as to why it is over 200 euro more than last year and why when I go into bonkers.ie as a new customer it is over 100 euro less than my quote as a renewing customer.
I will now be taking a case to the FSPO as to this overcharging.
There is no reason in the world why it should be 575 euro this year and 310 last year.

It was very easy to make contact with your company. The staff member was very helpful, courtious and explained everything to us. Any questions we had were fully answered and sugestions to improve/upgrade our cover were offered and explained. The price quoted was competative and fair. We hope to be able to repeat our experience at renewal. We will also look to you when our house insurance is due. Thank you.

Initially, I was concerned about the legitimacy of the communication I received. The phone number and email address used to contact me were flagged as potential scams, which understandably caused hesitation and confusion. As a result, I did not open the link provided. However, after contacting your company directly, I was reassured that the service was genuine.
I was then assigned a mandatory appointment. Unfortunately, no specific time was provided—only a broad time window between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. When I called to request a more precise time, I was informed that this could not be given. This lack of clarity made it very difficult to plan my day, especially as I had prior commitments.
Due to this uncertainty, I had to arrange for my landlord to provide access to my home on my behalf. I was informed that I would receive a message 15 minutes prior to arrival; however, I was only notified approximately one minute before the technician arrived, which was not sufficient.
While the installation itself was completed, the overall process caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience.
Additionally, I would like to raise a general point regarding communication. As a non-native English speaker, I found it challenging at times to understand the representative on the phone. I fully appreciate that accents vary; however, clear communication is essential, particularly when arranging important appointments. It may be helpful to ensure that customer support is accessible and easy to understand for all clients, including those from international backgrounds.
I hope this feedback can help improve the service experience for future customers.
