Title: AvaTrade’s Platform Failure and Misleading Conduct – A Serious Warning to Retail Traders
On 1 August 2025, AvaTrade’s options platform permitted 12 NASDAQ100 trades at 10:08 AM, which triggered excessive margin exposure and resulted in a loss of USD 21,500. These trades were not blocked—despite six months of consistent safeguards—and were only closed 45 minutes later, during active market conditions. AvaTrade has admitted margin update errors, yet failed to acknowledge or compensate for this incident.
Later that morning, the platform again allowed (excess margin trades) 24 DOW30 trades at 11:09 AM, which were closed within 3 minutes for Margin error. AvaTrade offered settlement of USD 5,200—because I argued that leaving these trades active for 20 more minutes would have produced profits of around USD 20,000. AVATRADE COMPLETELY IGNORED the earlier Nasdaq 100 trades that incurred the substantial loss - NO EXPLANATION.NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.NO OFFER FOR SETTLEMENT. This is a selective and unethical response and as such the offer for 5200 USD was rejected.
Even more disturbing was the false negative margin balance of –USD 105,000 on 12 August 2025, while my actual equity stood at USD 1,001. This error caused a 15-hour freeze in trading access, during which I was unable to execute any trades. Imagine your account suddenly showing a negative balance 100 times greater than your equity—without warning or explanation. I have four screenshots at different time intervals documenting this erratic and unreliable platform behavior.
During another margin error between 15–18 September 2025, my account was again frozen despite having sufficient equity. AvaTrade’s support advised me via chat to deposit fresh funds to unblock my account—a practice that borders on coercion and raises serious regulatory concerns. The chat transcript clearly shows:

How would any reasonable person feel if their bank manager delayed resolution for two days, blocked access to their account, and then advised them to deposit additional funds just to unlock it?
This is precisely what AvaTrade’s support team did—despite my account showing sufficient equity. Such conduct is not just negligent; it borders on coercion and raises serious ethical and regulatory concerns. Whether one calls it fraud or sheer deviant behavior, it reflects a disturbing disregard for client protection and platform integrity.
This is not a complaint about market risk—it is a demand for accountability in the face of admitted platform failures, misleading responses, and unethical conduct. AvaTrade’s reply dated 4 September 2025 falsely labeled my trades as “atypical trading patterns” without any contractual basis, and unilaterally adjusted my account settings to “slow down excessively fast trading”—a move that confirms the platform’s inability to handle normal trading speeds and violates basic client consent.
Furthermore, AvaTrade’s attempt to classify the second set of DOW30 trades as an “atypical trading pattern” is a fantastical assertion. I respectfully request that you clarify—under the terms of the client-broker agreement—where such a classification is defined. What constitutes an “atypical trade”? On what basis does AvaTrade apply this label retroactively to justify platform malfunction?
Perhaps most egregious is AvaTrade’s statement:
“The platform has adjusted your account settings to prevent recurrence of margin update delays by slowing down excessively fast trading.”
This action confirms the platform’s inability to handle normal trading speeds. Adjusting a client’s account without prior consent is not only unprofessional—it is unethical. It is comparable to a bank unilaterally restricting a customer’s access to their own funds without notice or justification.
I urge Trustpilot readers to exercise extreme caution when dealing with AvaTrade. Their conduct reflects a disregard for transparency, client protection, and basic ethical standards.
By contrast, the Central Bank of Ireland, with the assistance of the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman (FSPO), has agreed to pursue resolution of this matter through legal proceedings. This demonstrates that while certain regulators have abdicated responsibility, competent authorities are prepared to ensure accountability and compliance in relation to AvaTrade.
