Worst service I have ever used
American Express Travel is the worst service I have ever used. I am been waiting for 2 months for a reimbursement, I have to call every 2 days. They don't have an email to contact, only a phone number with a poorly design system that makes it super long to reach agents. And they don't help at all
If you have a question about a charge, do NOT call them. If you have any doubt, they will block your card.
WARNING ⚠️
At the slightest doubt about a charge, do NOT call American Express.
They will block your card without warning, without explanation, and without transparency. And no written explanation, no letter, no email afterward.
This silence and complete lack of support constitute a failure in their legal duty to inform and advise customers, which is mandatory and regulated by law.
👉 If you have any doubts, contact your bank directly — not American Express.
Terrible customer service: they hang up on you like a dog 🐕.
I was completely terrified and shocked when ALAIN from customer/credit services told me:
“Free the line, madam, there are many people calling! You will get ZERO commercial gesture!”
In 2026, I do NOT recommend American Express.
€252 a year just to be insulted — absolutely pointless.

I applied for an Amex France gold card…
I applied for an Amex France gold card and I uploaded all the required documents. After 3 business days, I got an email saying I needed to give more information, which I did, but it got treated like a new application so they sent an email saying I was refused. I then called customer service, the representative didn’t speak English so I got transferred to another representative, and he told me that my application was rejected the same day that I applied, and I never got any email Saying that, I just got an email saying to upload the necessary documents. When I asked why it was denied, the said they couldn’t give an answer. Not professional at all and I am already a cardholder for Amex France.

Poor Service and Customer Experience
I am writing to formally raise a complaint concerning a recent and extremely disappointing experience involving the unjustified reduction of my credit limit, poor customer service, and lack of adequate language support.
The situation began with a technical issue from my bank, which caused a direct debit to be rejected. Upon contacting Amex France, I was informed that the payment would be automatically reattempted within 48 hours. This reattempt was successful, and my account was brought fully up to date within the expected timeframe.
Despite this resolution, I was shocked to learn that my credit limit was permanently slashed from €16,000 to €1,800, without any prior warning or meaningful justification. This abrupt change negatively impacts my credit utilization there was no ongoing delinquency or failure to pay. The situation is especially frustrating considering it was a technical error that was corrected promptly.
Adding to my concern is the lack of transparency, fairness, and flexibility shown by your customer service team. When I sought clarification and requested a review, I was met with scripted, dismissive replies. No one took ownership of the issue, and I was not given the opportunity to escalate or engage with someone empowered to make a decision.
Worse still, when attempting to speak with your customer service agents, I found that several refused to communicate in English, despite it being an american company, This made resolving the issue unnecessarily difficult and frustrating. It raises concerns about accessibility and inclusivity, especially for international customers with Amex FR.
In summary, the experience has left me with serious concerns about how American Express FR manages customer issues — particularly when they stem from technical glitches outside the customer’s control. A single, resolved incident should not trigger such a harsh and permanent financial penalty, nor should it be handled in such an inaccessible and impersonal manner.

The performance were excellent but it was short and the interval times were too long. As the door opened at 7 and for those who were early, there was totally insufficient food and I left early to eat a proper meal as the queues were so long and the quantities so minuscule

Amex France Platinum is not even comparable with Amex UK or USA. Definitely would recommend to explore other options. The extra regulatory requirements only further ruin the experience. Amex France runs as a totally separate entity and one cant even transfer an existing longtime account over from UK. Customer service was poor and there seems little motivation to keep a client who spends over 10k on a month on it. I decided not worth it and will now drop Amex.

If I had to pay for monthly/yearly fees I would not use it…
Happy with the overall experience because I have the silver Air France card and I spend enough per year so I don't pay monthly fees. IF I had to pay for this I would NOT use Amex, especially since there are so many great online banks at zero cost (which is normal because either way as clients we help them make loads of money by using their cards and giving our money in current and savings accounts).
I do not use the card abroad because the commission is ridiculously high. All my other banks do not take any commissions for this.
I actually use the Amex card because I get miles, it is the only reason, besides the free feature spending enough per year.

i wouldn’t pay for this card
I don’t feel there are enough points. The card can only be used with 3 airlines. The amount of points you need is extortionate even for economy let alone business or first. There is not enough communication as to where we can use points. Hardly anyone in our area accepts the card.

Annoyed client
I called to block a charge from a provider whose service I had cancelled. The person with whom I spoke told me that she would send me a sort of case number with which I could contest the previous month's charge, as well. She gave me an e-mail address to send this to, but she never sent me the case number. When I was asked to evaluate the service, I noted this. However, the case number was never sent to me. Then I get a letter saying that because I hadn't done my part, AmEx was not going to follow up on this. Well, thanks.

I have found the KYC process frankly ridiculous. Additionally the quality of concierge service from Paris to Monaco is far below standard I have experienced in London and New York previously.
As an update to this insulting poor level of client service. I have just tried to use my American Express card whilst travelling on business and it was refused.
No warning or communication made to me, never missed a payment in 25 years.
It would appear American Express no longer values loyal clients. I am disgusted.
Appeasing statements on Trustpilot for others to read count for nothing with service as shocking as this.

The most annoying thing is that you cannot contact them by email, only by phone. Also, the AMEX rules are too complicated for me to understand what they are. Last year I had a spending limit of over €20,000 and now it has been reduced to €3,000. I would like to email them about this, but I cannot. Please give me the email address of the person in charge, as there are many other things I would like to check.
