Custom shades, DIY quality control is on you
After a lot of research, I ordered three custom Prestige Roman Shades from American Blinds. They were running a 40% off promotion, so the final cost came out to just over $400 per shade. The order arrived in about three weeks, which was within the promised timeframe, and overall the fabric and style matched my expectations.
However, once installed, I noticed that one of the shades hangs about 1/2 inch shorter on one side than the other. It's very obvious that one of the panels on the shade is irregularly sewn. In contacting American Blinds, I wasn’t looking for a refund so much as clarity on their quality control standards, especially since this was a test order before committing to 14 more windows. They’ve largely deflected responsibility to the manufacturer and have not really addressed whether this is standard operating procedure or not.
My recommendation: buyer beware. If your expectations aren't that you should be the one to unpack, inspect, and measure every custom item and be ready to return anything with an issue (as much as 1/3 of your order) within a tight timeframe, I would think carefully before ordering from this company.
Poor design and not made in the USA
First of all, the blinds are NOT made in the USA. They are made in Vietnam. I felt like this was false advertising, as they said they are based in Texas, so I assumed that's where they were made. Second, both blinds that we ordered were defective. One was damaged in shipping (they are sending a replacement). The other blind does not stay up: it keeps falling down. Their answer is for us to take it apart and tighten the tension (which we tried to do to no avail). These are the Zebra shades. They are beautiful, but a TERRIBLE design!
An Overall Great Experience
We have completed every window in our home with products ordered through American Blinds - all plantation shutters. Most recently, we ordered shutters by Acadia Home Composite Plus shutters that are custom made to order in China. As expected, it took about 6 weeks. They arrived by freight, in perfect condition and almost completely assembled. Installing them was quick and easy and they look great! My only concern was the fact that they arrived unexpectedly after being told (the day before) that they were on a container ship in the Pacific. Customer service is always very polite and professional on the phone, but the automated status check of our order never provided any updates and we never received any tracking information at all. I guess that is forgivable having received a generally good product. I just wish they could improve their guidance along the way to keep us better informed- by email or with an automated status check system that worked properly.
Disappointments continue
After writing a review, I received an email stating they wish there was something they could do, but the manufacture wouldn’t stand behind the product.
I SPECIFICALLY STATED MY RESPONSE MY RELATIONSHIP IS WITH YOU NOT THE MANUFACTURER.
So of course, they did not fix it
I’ve been ordering from them for years and I’ve never had this problem so I won’t do it again
Take your business somewhere that is reputable.
Do not order from this company.
I ordered two blinds as per the color of samples that I received from them. When they were received, they were not even close to the color of the sample (were pink versus the tan that I ordered)
I spoke to the sales representative (the one that sent the samples) and sent photos of the variance. He referred me to their customer representative-I spoke to three different customer reps. and was told each time that they need to contact the manufacturer and would get back to me within 48 hours. Each time I sent photos of the variance and did not receive a reply from my three communications to them. Their customer service is non existent. They call themselves American Blinds but my blinds were shipped from China. I had to file a transaction dispute with Paypal to get my money back but had to pay return shipping-contrary to their own warranty/dispute/error policy. It would be to your benefit as a buyer to seek a supplier outside of American Blinds.
Worst company to deal with
Worst company to deal with. i spent $600 on 2 Bali blinds that were suppose to be top down bottom up and received top down only. I reached out to them letting them know this would not work for my windows. All they could tell me is the policy is no refunds and wanted to know if she could order what I needed with no credit for which I purchased already. I said so basically I would be out the $600.00 and she said yes nothing she could do. This is how they make company makes their money…so much for complete satisfaction that the company website states.
I do not recommend using American…
I do not recommend using American blinds. American blinds delivered a blind that was not the measurement that I specified. When I contacted them for a replacement and sent in photos, they said that the manufacturer said I didn't measure properly and so they would not replace it.
First, American blinds does not stand by its product but differs to its "manufacturer" which is confusing because I thought American blinds was the manufacturer. Second, regardless of how I measured my window opening, the blind that was delivered was not the dimension of the blind that I ordered.
I do not recommend using American blinds. This is the second time this has happened with them. The last time was a couple years ago and I just ignored it because I ordered blinds during a renovation and by the time I hung them the period for me to complain had expired.
Easy to order
Easy to order. Quality product. Haven’t hung yet but feeling positive they will work.
We’ve ordered 3 times
We’ve ordered 3 times. First two were fine, shipped from Mexico.
Recent order shipped from Hanoi. Not transparent. This is hidden until you dig into the tracking details.
I highly recommend using the free…
I highly recommend using the free samples offered because it is impossible to get a read on the actual colors from the computer. My only critique would be to either staple the labels or use better adhesive because they fall off and we had a mixup and ordered blinds in an incorrect color. Mark in customer service was extremely helpful in correcting the error, for which I am truly thankful. The cordless top down bottom up cellular shades are constructed well and look beautiful. I will definitely purchase more in the future.
Cordless Blinds Have Defect
American Blinds cordless blinds have defective lift cords. The lift cords are light-duty, break often, and are unrepairable - necessitating replacement of the entire blind. In our situation a lift cord broke and the blind was replaced under warranty. Within a year the lift cord broke again, out of warranty. A one-year lifetime is unacceptable.
Purchased a "Custom" 1/2 moon blackout…
Purchased a "Custom" 1/2 moon blackout cellular arch window from American Blind for $172.23.
Product arrived, Installed as instructed and we have 1/2" gap all around the shade allowing light to come in to bedroom. Over a month of going back and forth with complaint and after speaking with two separate representatives, they stopped communicating with me. The $40.00 Amazon Shade provided more blackout than the $171.23 product. Would not use them for lack of follow up and resolution to my complaint.
Do not use American Blinds in Conway if you want good service!
I purchssed shutters from American Blinds in Conway previously, and am needing shutters in north Arkansas. I called and left a voice maiil asking if they could help. Apr 2 i received a text saying she would call me shortly. Today, May 1, I sent a text saying I never received a call. The response was Omg I am out of town but will call you when I get back but if i forget, call me back!!!! Won’t happen!!!
American Blinds are NOT built in…
American Blinds are NOT built in America! Mine were manufactured in Mexico! See California Supply chain act disclosure Law of 2010 SB 657. Creates delays at the Mexican border to be inspected by Border patrol agents. Big red Flag! Blinds do NOT fit in the opening! TOO Tight. I took accurate measurements with no reductions in size per their website recommendations. Most blind companies make a 1/4" reduction for Fit That is 1/8" per end. American blinds require the exact measurement with no reduction. Due to the window opening having a variant from top to bottom, "NORMAL". I have to pull the blinds out of the opening to expand and retract the blind. Very disappointed! Will not use them again not built in the USA! They are not "American Blinds"!
Totally Pleased
I recently purchased 6 large faux wood, cordless blinds from American Blinds. I was really worried there would be delays, sizing or damage issues. I received them before they were promised. They fit perfectly. All necessary hardware and instructions were provided. They look fabulous and I highly recommend American Blinds.
I ordered a light grey vertical blinds…
I ordered a light grey vertical blinds for 3 windows. We received white blinds. We are past our 30 days. I was asked to email pictures and would be resolved in 2 days. No response from American Blinds.Today I was told by another person they can't do anything for us since we're past the 30 days. We kept the unopened boxes until we were ready to do installation. There were no instructions in any of the boxes. I was also told I should of ordered the swatch. I thought grey was pretty easy to figure out and we received the totally wrong color! They won't help us at all. There is no customer service in that regard. Even though it's their mistake. The website appears to be off on the colors. Which I didn't know about. Over 300.00 down the toilet. Ouch!
Ordering was easy
Ordering was easy. Extensive selection of window treatment. My order also came fast!
Great support!
My sales contact was great! He answered a lot of questions regarding how to measure properly and what the weight of the finished product would be. He was fantastic!
I’m not happy with this company
I’m not happy with this company. I have used this company in the past and referred all my friends to them. I ordered one blind on 11/9/24 and still have not received it. I have been on hold to talk with someone for 50 min. No luck!
Very happy with my order and customer…
Very happy with my order and customer service was very helpful in having one wood blind valance re-made so that it was snug against the window casing instead of their being a gap!
