I purchased an AAA Plus membership for…

I purchased an AAA Plus membership for peace of mind, believing that if my vehicle ever broke down, AAA would be there to help—no hassle, no excuses. Today proved that belief wrong.

My vehicle broke down on the side of the road, and when I contacted AAA, I was shocked by the response. Despite paying for a Plus membership that clearly includes up to three 100-mile tows per year, I was told that due to “high customer volume,” towing was suddenly restricted to only 25 miles. There was no warning, no prior notice, and no explanation of when—or if—this restriction would be lifted.

The tow I needed was only 30.4 miles. AAA flat-out refused to tow my vehicle the full distance and offered no real solution other than scheduling a 25-mile tow, which did absolutely nothing to solve my problem. On top of that, they couldn’t even tell me when they would be able to return to retrieve my vehicle if I waited for the so-called “restriction” to be lifted. I was essentially left stranded with a broken-down car and zero peace of mind.

This experience completely defeated the purpose of paying for roadside assistance. When you’re stuck on the side of the road—stressed and vulnerable—the last thing you expect is for a company you pay for “coverage” to suddenly change the rules and refuse to honor the roadside assistance plan you purchased and agreed to.

AAA failed when it mattered most. If they can ignore the benefits you pay for and offer no meaningful help in an emergency, then the service is not worth it. I would absolutely not recommend AAA to anyone.

DO NOT BUY AAA BATTERIES

AAA is great to have for towing, but do NOT buy batteries from them!

I purchased a battery from AAA in 2022 in California. Our battery went T.U. while on a road trip. It was more expensive than Orielly's, but I figured it would be worth it to have nationwide coverage that comes to you, boy was I wrong. Just over a year later the AAA battery died, no biggie I thought, call AAA they come warranty it, done, luckily it died in my driveway. The guy shows up, tests the battery, says yes its bad, but they can't any proof that I purchased this battery from AAA, luckily I kept the carbon copy receipt I was originally given. After some back and fourth they replaced the battery, but made me wait 4 days before a replacement battery became available. I had other cars to drive, so no big deal, just a minor inconvenience. Now the replacement battery is dead, 6 months left of warranty. It died 12/26/25, we had a trip planned that weekend and needed this vehicle. I called AAA explained the entire situation, the guy set me up for a jump start, when the tow company called me they were like "well this call was setup wrong, you have to call AAA again. This happened 3 times, 3 service calls set up and cancelled. They finally told me they do not have any "battery technicians" available until 1/5/26. I was like, well I need a battery now, so can you just go out of contract and replace it or ill replace it and you reimburse me, they said no to the out of contract, but agreed I could be reimbursed. I ended up having to pay over $300 for a battery and $300 for a service call. AAA then tried to deny my reimbursement, kept making excuses, then said they couldn't prove the battery was a AAA battery. I told them it shows up on my AAA account, and I have the battery still you can send a "battery tech" out to see it lol. They did end up giving and agreed to refund me $219. So I am out $400+ because AAA refused to do their job and take care of the customer. Never buying a AAA battery again!

AAA Dining Deals frustration

My complaint is regarding the AAA Dining Deals recently rolled out through mailers to members. Purportedly all one has to do is go to their account, head to AAA Dining Deals then receive a discounted gift card to different restaurants along with a $10 promo card. This means an Olive Garden gift card for $50 could be purchased for $45 plus a separately emailed promo code for a $10 Darden gift card. I purchased two gift cards for Olive Garden plus two more for Ruth’s Chris and was able to access the $50 gift cards but never received any promo code to access any promised $10 gift cards. I have had no less than 13 different communications from AAA support since January 7 and still haven’t successfully gotten a promo code for the Ruth’s Chris purchases—only yesterday did we get the Olive Garden issue straightened out when they sent me a screenshot of a promo code with the link to access the $10 gift card. Though I have now sent three more emails with screenshots of exactly what they now need to send for the Ruth’s Chris purchase (since they did it yesterday for the Olive Garden) they still haven’t been able to fulfill this request. This should not be so difficult and it’s enough to make me advise against entering into these AAA Dining Deals offers.

Rates were better but very bad communication

Rates were fine / better but there was huge communication gap. Total blunders from the underwriting department. I got home and auto policies. First, they started sending messages again and again that provide proof about the roof age and brand new heating cooling system. I had already submitted everything with proofs. Then all of a sudden, they sent a termination notice for my auto policy mentioning that they never received any proof that I already had insurance for the last 6 months from another company. They never asked for that kind of proof. Total silence. No communication at all and then a termination notice. Amazing. Then I had to submit all other documents for that proof. Total blunder communication and disconnect.

AAA was asked more than several times…

AAA was asked more than several times to change my billing payment date to accommodate me. I was told I couldn’t change it unless it was a renewal. I asked at my recent renewal in December of 2025, and no one has changed it or even admitted I asked. I called this morning to ask to have my payment dates changed again and was told even if it’s documented and sent to a supervisor nothing will done.

I became so frustrated with AAA I couldn’t believe that changing a payment date would be so difficult.

I asked to speak to several supervisors and was told they had to leave an email to the supervisor for me to get a response. I have never been so discussed with this agency.

I asked customer service why not train the workers to ask what date is suitable for them, and remind the caller or customer that the day they sign up will be there payment date.

Giving and letting the customer have an option is key to avoiding this kind of chaos.

I am currently looking for another car insurance agency and I hope to never ever have to deal with AAA again.

Update: AAA call themselves accommodating me by taking $5.00 off of my bill..

I said no way and completely cancelled and I didn’t need a supervisor for that. . A total disgrace.

I thought triple A was good but they take your money out sooner then the bill date if you choose automatic payments and then it takes time to get the refund back also and they wait to your actual canceled date, I would not recommend triple A to anyone ever. It's best if you can go thru your car insurance you will get more then triple A has to offer. Don't say I didn't warn you. Trying to save people money. Also people need to be more clear about things at triple A.

What a disappointment and ruined my day

Same thing I just read in the latest review. This company has gone to waste. I have had it for 10 years straight, they used to be good now it’s 5 phone calls , 6 texts from them that they are coming in 20 more min, 10 more min then 20 more min then 15 min etc. Nonsense, they wouldn’t come until I called ever number I could for aaa. Then the supervisor told me he was here at my address and I was like no he is not, she put me on hold and said oh I’m sorry 45 more min. I ordered a jump and I am contacting their headquarters to complain and sending everyone I can an email in their company. 3 times made me wait 2 to 3 hours and weren’t even coming. So disappointed

I give AAA no stars however this system…

I give AAA no stars however this system would not let me move forward without hitting a star. It does not give road side assistance instead it makes you call a tow truck and pay for it which begs the question “why am I paying you” my daughter has been stranded on the side of the road twice now with no help from AAA and tonight was told to call a service herself and charges 345 dollars and told maybe she’ll be reimbursed. This company is trash and it’s sad because it used to be a good service and I’ve had it for over 20 years

This is THE WORST company to get…

This is THE WORST company to get insurance with. Don't do it!!! For homeowners insurance they over valuated my property so they could charge me the highest possible premium. Then they increased my yearly premium by several hundred each year and claimed my property cost's more to rebuild than it did last year. My house is appraised for $360K at the highest, but AAA says it cost $430k to rebuild and I am not in a declining market. I work with homeowners insurance every day for my job so I have seen premiums for other companies in my area.

Last June I had a new roof put on my home with a promise this will lower my insurance and I will get a small refund. I get the roof done and send the invoice the Spanish roofers give me. I make follow up calls every month for 6 months asking about my rebate, until I finally get upset and ask for a manger. Only to find out "our underwriters are not accepting your invoice." Six months to find this out. So, I do my best to get another invoice and after weeks of hounding the roofers I get another invoice, and yes, you guessed it...AAA did not accept that invoice either. All of this over $400 rebate. I would give 0 stars if possible, AAA is over-rated and only good for getting keys out of your car or changing a battery. Of course, all of my insurance with this company is being cancelled. See picture below...looks like a new roof doesn't it, but this is not good enough. The manager stated, "how do we know you had the whole roof done?"

Refused to come because I was in an imaginary city

Locked my key in the car, called AAA and couldn't get a human. Even though I was calling from Vestavia, Alabama, the mechanized voice kept saying "Octavia, Connecticut????????" (Is there even an Octavia, CT?)

They hung up on me in the freezing cold, dark and deserted parking lot.

I found some Hispanic workers who jimmed open the door. Paid them $100 in cash because I was so grateful. AAA REFUSED to reimburse me $70 bec. I had no receipt.

They sent me a letter saying "how sorry" they were!

AAA failed me today

AAA failed me today. And to think we already paid $99. Used three calls. It’s not worth it. I’m stranded in Rome, Georgia since 11:00 PM. The next towing service is not until the next morning at 9 AM. AAA already took my $99 to tow for me to wait 8 hours before someone comes.

Slow in reimbursing

I cancelled the triple A insurance in March 2025 three days after the car insurance was automatically renewed. In November, I received a collection agency notification to make a payment for a whole year. Rather than billing me for the three days they covered my car, Triple A sent my "no payment" to a collection agency. I was never sent a bill not received a call about what I owed from triple A. I called triple A informing them that we had cancelled the insurance. I was informed that I had to make the full payment and after deducting what I owed ( three days) the rest would be reimbursed. I made the payment to the collection agency, which was forwarded to Triple A. I have spoken to about 15 people in triple A requesting the $1,500.00+ refund. It's been nearly two months and it's always " being processed.'. The people I've spoken to are mostly very nice, but none of them seem to be able to complete this transaction despite numerous calls.

Stay away from the mechanic repair shop…

Stay away from the mechanic repair shop at all cost. They were going to triple charge me for a part over getting it done at the dealership for the same part. Also, had a battery replaced their that for whatever reason wasnt working with my vehicle resulting in having to buy another new battery 3 months after getting it. They are despite knowing all the issues that i have had willing to help me but offered me q new battery. Yet what good would that do as the other battery is collecting dust in my garage. Price shop around if they recommend anything and buy a dealer battery that had the same warranty!
