Disappointing KLM Experience: Lack of Support for Booking Mistake and Unreasonable Rebooking Options
I made a simple mistake when booking tickets for my Christmas holiday late at night, just before traveling abroad on another trip. Unfortunately, I ended up booking the trip the wrong way. Instead of trying to rebook it myself, I contacted KLM support via WhatsApp, hoping they could provide a more helpful and efficient solution.
The experience was nothing short of frustrating. The response times were incredibly slow, and the support team spent hours checking prices and getting back to me without offering any clarity or proper assistance. Meanwhile, I tried using the rebook flight option on the KLM website and found a suitable alternative. However, when I was about to complete the last step, I encountered a technical error, which I later discovered was due to the temporary booking changes made by the support team.
I repeatedly asked if the prices the support team offered were the same as the rebooking prices on the website so I could handle it myself. This question was never answered clearly. Hours later, they responded that "there is no combinable fare with your new preferred flights." When I asked why I couldn’t rebook online instead, my queries were ignored or met with vague answers.
What’s shocking is how unnecessarily complicated and unhelpful the entire process was. In the end, I had no choice but to buy a new ticket for around €2,000 because rebooking it for €3,500 made no sense when a new ticket was cheaper. It’s disappointing that KLM couldn't offer a better solution than forcing me to buy an entirely new ticket.
Even worse, I now have another four tickets worth approximately €2,000 that appear to be completely unusable. It truly feels like KLM is taking advantage of a customer who made a genuine mistake when booking. The lack of support and reasonable options is both shocking and disappointing. This entire experience has left me with a very negative impression of their customer service and policies.
