Okay service

Zipcar already charges for Miles when ita unlimited with every other company so I'm not understanding why if I rent a car for 4 days and they give you 200 miles per day that means I have 800 total.miles to not exceed that I prepaid for. Zipcar instead sets it up so that you can only drive 200 miles per 24 hours regardless of how many days u book!!! If a person is willing to book a car for multiple days and pay all the ridiculous fees they charge then this 24 hour period shouldn't apply to multi- day rentals!!! In addition this is the first car in about 2 years that didn't smell like Marijuana and wasn't dirty bit that's only because my building is brand new and the car was brand new!!! Typically I'm forced to clean the car spending about 50.00 or more to get rid of the Marijuana smell from the previous owner and even though you report it they clearly don't do anything about it because I rented it again days after and it smelled like.marijuana again!!! Maybe zipcar needs to start ENFORCING their policies and punishing bad zipcar users to protect good zipcar users especially when you refuse to reimburse me the cleaning fee!!

Great location

Really liked the pickup area. Clean and safe. Vehicle was where they said. Easy pickup and dropoff. Clean and full tank of gas. Definitely will come back here. Hopefully they can add mini van here :).

Terrible customer service

I got married, sent my license to DVLA to change my surname and in the interim got blocked from Zipcar. I cannot get hold of anyone to explain or get any details and the automatic replies are from a center in Estonia. I tried for weeks to get a response that was from someone to please review my account. Absolutely horrific customer service.

Absolutely shocking!! Be careful about using them. I rented a vehichle and ASKED IF IT WAS COMPLIANT WITH THE ROTHERHITE TUNNEL. 2 weeks later i got a penalty charge because the vehicle was NOT!!

Absolutely shocking!!! I rented a vehicle in March and I specifically told the agent that I needed to drive through the Rotherite Tunnel and since there are restrictions, I very clearly asked if the vehicle was compliant. And clearly asked for the size. So 2 weeks later i get a penalty notice BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE THAT EXCEEDS THE WEIGHT ALLOWED IN THE TUNNEL....now had I NOT asked the agent very clearly to tell me the type and size of vehicle, I could understand this was my fault....BUT having asked SPECIFICALLY if the vehicle she was giving me was compliant and to give me the exact size so I could check, ZipCar should admit fault and pay for the charge. INSTEAD they are trying to say that it's my fault!!! I will cancel my account as a result of this, but not before warning anyone who is planning to use their service that they really don't care about renting a vehicle THAT IS SO OBVIOUSLY not compliant with some very strict requirements of roads in the UK. EVEN IF YOU ASKED THEM TO CHECK!!!

Negative/horrible billing alert

Negative billing alert. Noticed that zipcar has been charging for premium coverage at over 100extra year. They then make it near impossible to change that back to basic coverage at 0$ extra per year. System doesn't allow you to change online and near impossible on phone before end of your billing cycle. Appears company is hoping you forget about about exact date of your renewal at which time it will rebill for premium. Once billed zipcar refuses to refund or even repay portion not used (if you cancel membership after 1day you will pay extra coverage in refunded. All in all Gives you almost no window to change to basic coverage. Very very difficult to deal with customer service...took me over 2hrs with threats of lawsuit etc

Scam company - no reply no reason

I had to reapply twice for the application. The first time it was said that the application was denied because the membership fee wasn't being charged though the "MONTHOFF" discount credit was applied that waived the initial membership fee. After speaking with the agent and the bank that showed the charge had been applied and recredited to my credit card I was advised to make another profile and re-submit my application. I did so and processed the payment, showing on my banking statement that it had been applied. My application was denied again and the agents instructed me to speak with my bank to be sure there was no holds or locks on my card. The bank confirmed that the payment had been put through and that there was no issue, the money was out of my account. I called back to ZipCar and the agent hung up on me after I pressed that the issue was not with my bank and that I would like to know what was the reason for the denial. Calling back what was my 7th time I spoke with another agent and she was unable to verify why my application was denied saying "we have an API that verifies driver information and it can be denied for number or reasons." I requested to speak with a supervisor or manager, Kate, and waited for 40 minutes until being told she could not take my call and that she would eventually give me a call back. I do not understand why my application was denied as my record is spotless, nothing is expired, and I met all requirements posted yet literally less than 1 minute after applying was swiftly denied by the "API System". I spent 3 hours trying to resolve this situation and not one person could give me a valid reason or resolution to this issue. Honestly exhausted and do not care what the reason was for the denial. I would like a refund for the application fee as there is no way it could have honestly been vetted and for the number of hours I spent I am very disappointed not one single person could give me an honest reason.

BEWARE OF ZipCar, they will hold you responsible for other people's fraudulent credit card use on their fuel car!! It could cost you thousands!!

Three weeks ago I rented a van from Zipcar, I returned the van with no issues and refuelled once during the trip. One week after the booking they suspended my account and have accused me of using the fuel card for additional fuel purchases.

I had proof I was on the other side of London with the van at the time of the fraudulent transaction but they didn’t care. They insisted I pay for the fraudulent transaction and threatened contacting the police, they didn’t seem to care it would have been impossible for me to have used the card at that time and location for fuel.

Lucky for me the false transaction was only £40 but imagine if it was a larger amount.

I have been a loyal customer with them for many years but doesn’t count for anything. If you rent a car with them you are taking a big risk!!

Trip cancellation with no notice and no compensation

I rented a car for a day trip to San Francisco: the reservation was successful for the time slot I indicated and I was assigned a car. However, on the day of the trip I received an email early in the morning (around 6 a.m.) saying that the car was not available anymore, without explaining why, and they proceeded to refund what I paid but no more. I tried to call them but their 24/7 customer service never answers. Needless to say, I had booked the car with other people and we had planned everything out and made other reservations in San Francisco which Zipcar took no responsibility of. I sent them an email asking for some compensation or at least an explanation and they did not even bother to answer. This was not the first bad experience with Zipcar: every time there is some problem with the car which makes them incredibly unreliable and their customer support is lacking to say the least.

This has been the worst experience…

This has been the worst experience ever! I have used zip several times. It hasn’t been great. One of the times I rented for two days. When I picked up the vehicle it smelled of weed so bad, it made me sick to my stomach. Luckily wasn’t in vehicle for too long durations. It reeked the whole two days I had it!!

Now this last time, I am at a loss for words. I rented for a three days. My second day, unfortunately was in an accident. I was not at fault nor was I cited. I was rear ended. Luckily I wasn’t seriously hurt and the car was still drivable. I was very shaken up though and in a lot of pain. I called them like I was supposed to and let them know. Per policy they suspend your account upon investigation. I understand this but they abandoned me and left me stranded during this trip duration. I needed to extend a couple days because there was no way for me to get the car back to them. I am in severe pain and am shaken up from getting hit. They would not extend because they suspended the account. The car is disabled and I’m 4.5 hours away in another city stranded. They are charging me late fees and then a tow fee. I have no idea what I’m going to do. I understand suspending account but to show no compassion and abandon me on this trip and charge me all these fees . I should not be punished for someone rear ending me. I was not even cited or anything !! This is the worse company ever . Oh and I pay for premium membership with their extra insurance coverage and for what to be stranded left abandoned and punished for something that wasn’t my fault.

I’d give zero stars if I could…

Zipcar is a deceitful company and I can’t believe it’s still operating. When I arrived at my rental, I immediately noticed both the interior and exterior were dirty. In the pre-trip report, I made sure to photograph all the dirt, and noted that the car needed cleaning.

A few weeks later, I see an email from customer service saying I’m being charged $50+ for a cleaning fee. I asked them to refer to the reports I submitted, before *and* after the car was used, and please refund me for the cleaning fee. They responded shortly after saying I never submitted any report, “Have a great day!” and then ghosted me.

Customer service was either inept or too lazy to look into this issue. Beware and use another service.

ZIP CAR PUTS THEIR LONG HANDS IN YOUR POCKET FOR ANY POSSIBLE REASON.

I booked a car for an hour to pick up a panel for my kitchen. At the end of the trip I was prompted by the app to report on the state of the vehicle and decided to comply in the spirit of helping the company running an efficient service. I reported a boot soiled in dog's hair and grease marks in the backseat. Next thing I know I get fined £50 fir the dirty car. I've contacted customer service believing out was a genuine mistake but in fact the customer service exec. was very abrupt and dismissive and refused to remove the fine, even escalating the complain to management level brought about the same results. BE VERY CAREFUL ZIP CAR PUTS THEIR LONG HANDS IN YOUR POCKET FOR ANY POSSIBLE REASON.

1 star is generous - terrible service

Having previously used Zipcar for about 6 months, I subsequently bought a car and cancelled my membership. In those 6 months, the service was average at best - all cars were dirty to some degree, some were badly damaged, and one didn’t even exist.
Fast forward to this week and I wanted to reactivate my membership for a specific day and reason. At no point was it made clear that it wouldn’t be immediately approved, a fact that only became apparent when I had paid the membership and application fees.

I called and spoke to somebody who said if I needed to get a full refund I could do. I decided to wait an extra 30 minutes until I absolutely had to make alternative plans, and then called back - this new representative said that I couldn’t have any refund whatsoever. I was told a supervisor would call me later that day (3rd February) or the next day (4th February). It is now the 10th February and I’ve heard absolutely nothing. It’s a pretty perfect example of Zipcars attitude to customer service.

Zipcar are a terrible company, with dirty cars that all seem to smell of marijuana, and when you complain they won’t move an inch because they want every cent of your money. Avoid at all costs, and maybe just pay the extra for a proper rental vehicle. I won’t ever be using Zipcar again, it’s just not worth the hassle and stress. Seriously, 1 star is generous.

This company is the worst I have ever…

This company is the worst I have ever dealt with. I was paying for my girlfriends membership and she has found syringes in a car that she picked up from GA Tech's campus in a kia soul that was also damaged all down the side from a driver side swiping something, she picked up a car from Howell mill that was a chevy electric car- that one wouldn't turn off literally would not turn off and no way to charge the car, she picked up a car from State street once that had empty liquor bottles under the drivers seat. Every car that she ever rented would have service needed lights on, they were all filthy. Then they locked her out of the last vehicle after she paid for another day, like 3 hours after taking the 99.95 out of the account and refused to let her back in. They said that her account was under review. They wouldn't let her get her things out and then left the vehicle abandoned in the apartment complex for 72 hours. They were already tagged for towing, too bad they made it before the tow truck got here on the last day. If you like HORRIBLE customer service, risking being arrested for drugs or alcohol found in the cars from previous drivers, or being broke down because they don't maintain the cars then this company is for you! Honestly, just get a rental from a real rental company with the subscriptions they offer. You will save if you use the car for more than a few days a month and wont risk the felony drug charges that you may get using Zipcar! This company is a ripoff!
