We were booked on a 12:50pm flight from St Barth to St Maarten and arrived over an hour in advance of supposed departure. The airport waiting area (understandably small) was standing room only. Win Air then announced two earlier flights (reason the area was packed) were canceled and to return to outdoor check in for “options.” We went to check our flight status which was reported “delayed” but no time was given. The options were “fly private” (Win Air has private planes. Seems like a conflict, no?) Or book the ferry (no seats open) or charter a helicopter or try the next day. By the time our flight did board, it was after 2pm and the plane was half empty. Of course!! Many of the expected passengers had made their own alternate arrangements. But until “17 people” were on board, we sat on the tarmac. Every single person, which included a French couple with 4 kids under 10 years old, was under enormous pressure to make their connecting flights. No one cared. We sat there for over 30 minutes waiting for them to find more passengers to board. There was no regard for the stress and ultimate cost of their screw up for all of us trying to get to the rest of our connecting flights. While we made it to St Maarten (more than two hours late), we then had to deal with the unhelpful agents at AA who said we were 5 minutes past the check in and their “computers were locked” and there was nothing they could do. Our party of 4 then had to find and pay for another hotel for an extra night in St Maarten. Both if our couples had to find childcare arrangements for another night. It was a nightmare. I would give negative stars and would recommend finding any other way to get to St Barth besides this airline.
Because i was on hold for 15 minutes with no answer, I wasted almost two hours trying to make a reservation online from my iPad, iPhone and windows. It reaches a certain point on all these devices and it will not allow the site to progress to payment. IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE YET THEY DONT FIX IT. They have a monopoly and don’t care!
