Lovely in Liverpool

Such a lovely shop and staff! Had a great time chatting with Liz about all things cameras. Her passion for photography is infectious and she really helped me to figure out which camera I will replace my archaic compact with.

There's some printing machines there too, which Liz guided me through connecting my phone to so I could print off a few snaps. The quality was the best I've found in Liverpool so I'll be back to print more soon.

Highly recommend this shop (and staff) for all things cameras, even for novices like me. Thank you Liz and team for chatting with this technophobe.

Incorrect advice and incompetent photography

In order to renew my passport I needed a recent photograph. I went to the Wilkinson store in Carlisle and said that I needed a photo for my Irish passport. A rather haughty assistant told me to remove my glasses. He said that this was a requirement. I replied that this was not the case and that I had recently checked the government advice. The assistant then said "if you try to enter the country with a passport photo in which you are wearing glasses you will not be allowed in". This was arrant nonsense - I had entered the UK just 48 hours beforehand using a passport with such a photograph. I am a frequent traveller and have both UK and Irish passports. Both passports have photos in which I am wearing glasses.

He did try to take a picture but my photochromic lenses hadn't cleared by then. The UK online check rejected the picture. So another was taken without glasses and this passed the UK test. The failure was not because I was wearing glasses but because of a tint which had not cleared. Mr smug, the assistant, said this would be OK now and my photo would pass muster.

For the education and edification of the arrogant assistant the (Irish) web-site advice reads "Transparent glasses may be worn so long as they do not cause glare or shadows or the frames do not cover any part of the eye."

The photo didn't pass. It was rejected by the Irish passport office because the background was too dark. In a response to my Google review the store owner said "The Carlisle store is one of our most experienced passport photo stores. As a company, we are experts at taking passport photographs and we want to ensure that every passport photo we take will be accepted when you apply for your passport. "

Some experts! Talking nonsense about the wearing of glasses. Saying that a photo was good when it failed to pass muster. Taking just shy of £10 for nothing worthwhile. Then having the gall to tell me how expert they are. If the Carlisle store is one of the most experienced it would be wise to steer clear of the others.

Trading standards need to know

Purchased a camera this morning and during the transaction was offered a discount. They then cancelled my order as they said the discount was a mistake. This goes against trading standards and consumer rights and the company will not budge on their mistake after a telephone call. I have reported them.

Update following Wilkinsons reply.
To accuse me of being impolite, rude and threatening down the phone is an absolute lie, I mearly pointed out my stance in a calm, quiet manner. Shame on you Alex, and your team for this reply. Disgusting.
Trust Pilot is for consumers to give feedback on experiences and not a place for retailers, to use it to slander their potential customers.
Also I point out, I was willing to purchase the camera at full price, putting trust in you as a source amongst hundreds of other retailers offering this camera for sale today.
For anyone reading this, be wary, for a bad experience could become an opportunity for Wilkinson to give you unwarranted, personal feedback to satisfy their sour grapes.

Good afternoon,

I am sorry that you were affected by an issue with our website.

The camera was clearly and correctly advertised at the correct price of £1599. There was no information or text to promote this at a lower price. A pricing error occurred whereby the price was reduced in the shopping basket online. Legally we do not have to honour this price as it was clearly a mistake and was not deliberately set to mislead.

Our Terms and Conditions also state, "We make every effort to ensure that all information contained on this website is true and accurate. However, errors can occur; if we discover an error in the price or description of any product you have ordered, we will notify you immediately and ask if you wish to proceed with your order." We tried to explain this over the phone to you.

We did everything we could to correct this quickly. The product was immediately removed from sale, just 15 minutes after your order was placed and within minutes of our Sales Team starting work for the day. It was reinstated at approximately 9.15am showing the same, correct price of £1599 but without any further pricing errors at the checkout. By 9.33 am you had spoken to our team and received a refund.

Any affected customers, including yourself, were contacted as soon as possible to apologise for the error and to arrange either a cancellation or correction. These customers were also offered a gift as a gesture of goodwill and to apologise for the mistake and inconvenience caused. It transpires that we were unable to offer you this due to how rude, abusive and threatening you were down the phone to a member of our sales team. I must point out that we WILL NOT accept any form of abusive behaviour towards our staff members.

Once again, I do apologise for the issue you experienced on the website, but we simply are not able to sell you the camera at that price, no matter how many threats or poor reviews you make.

Regards,
Alex | Wilkinson Cameras

Good trade in prices, pleasant buying experience

I took my camera into part exchange for a better one. I got it down to two cameras before I went to the Liverpool store. I got a friendly welcome and good advice about each of the cameras I was thinking of buying. I also feel I got a good prices for the items I took in for part exchange. Liz and Mathew are professional and well informed but not pressuring in the least. I look forward in upgrading again when my camera skills improve further. A pleasant buying experience. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent

Whenever I purchase something online with a retailer I have never bought from before, there's always some trepidation of parting with my cash to an unknown retailer.
My experience with Wilkinson Cameras has been nothing short of excellent. I was informed by emails at every step of the ordering process by the efficient service provided and my camera arrived the next day, even though it was not paid for next day delivery. The product was very well packaged and I could not be happier! Well done to the staff for the excellent service provided by Wilkinson Cameras.

Be very very careful trading in as I was low balled. Agreed trade in price on a lens which was correctly described and when sent they dropped the price by 34% for cosmetic rubbing which was described by the original grade!
Given 2 stars as Graham the manager was very good with comms etc ordering the new lens.
Very dissapointed

Good afternoon Mark,

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and I’m sorry you are unhappy with the offer we made for your item in Part Exchange.

With all Part Exchanges we encourage all our customers to be as honest as possible and to try to give accurate information with regards to equipment condition. This is to ensure we can give an accurate quote for your equipment. Giving an accurate quote enables us to process the part exchange or sale faster and to avoid disappointment when we have to offer a lesser amount because equipment has arrived in a lower condition.
We provide an Equipment Rating Guide which we encourage our customers to use to rate their equipment, a copy of this is below.

A - Mint condition
As new, in original box with no obvious signs of use. Upon inspection, you'd be surprised to learn that this item has had a previous owner!

B - Excellent
The hardware shows only the lightest signs of use, visible only upon close inspection. This may include very minor handling marks, but no obvious scratches and no obvious scuffs or shine to grips, focus rings, etc.

C - Very Good
The item will show small signs of use such as a small number of light marks or wear to the body and grips. It will be obvious that the item isn't brand new, but it won't show extensive use.

D - Good
The item will show more noticeable signs of use, such as multiple marks and scuffs or scratches to the LCD, obvious wear to the grip or signs of use on the barrel of a lens, etc. Grips may be scuffed or shiny. The base or a camera or tripod collar on a lens will show obvious signs of use.

E - Well Used
Hardware has more obvious signs of use, including wear to rubber, scratches, scuffs. These will be more obvious and more extensive than a Grade D item. This may include multiple, deep scratches to the body of the item and multiple scuffs to contact points. Rubber sections and grips may be shiny or worn down.

In your original request for a quote, you rated your lens as being in condition C, and made no further reference to the items condition on the quote request. As you will see from above this would mean the lens would only show small signs of use and would not show extensive signs of use. All offers given for a Part Exchange quote are subject to a full examination and testing of that item, this is in line with our Terms & Conditions. https://www.wilkinson.co.uk/part-exchange/part-exchange-terms-conditions/

Upon receiving your lens it was noted that the lens had been used extensive and had significant signs of use. This included the surface of the product being worn right down to show the metal underneath, some of the lettering on the item had also been worn off. With this level of use we rated the lens as being in condition E, in line with our guide.
This unfortunately meant that we had to re-evaluate the offer that we had made you, I understand that the offer made may have been less than you were expecting but we made a fair offer for the lens in that condition. Had the lens been in the condition you stated then we would have happily paid the price originally offered.
You have elected to have your lens returned, this is being done and has been sent via a tracked courier.
We note that you have already purchased the replacement lens and this has been delivered. We do hope you enjoy using this new lens.

Kind regards
Wilkinson Cameras

Reliable professional and knowledgeable

Ordered a Canon lens just before Christmas with no expectation of it arriving by Christmas, but it did. Tracking kept me updated on progress and as always Wilkinson Cameras delivered. Top service - thank you.
