My personal experiences

The streams are always entertaining, it’s always fun to communicate with the sellers and other folks in the chat. Shout out to Mo and Gio and the whole chat at On Point Fashions!!! GREAT team!

Bargains & poor stuff together

Some great bargains to be had but, also a lot of poor quality & fake items. Checking what you purchased against what you receive is not the easiest.

Had an issue with a scammer on this…

Had an issue with a scammer on this site unfortunately it happened to others on the same show. Got sent two pieces of cardboard instead of what I won. Whatnot support take ages to respond even when you include pictures of the fraud. Then they send you a message asking you to return the cardboard to the seller and include a link to print off a pre paid postage label to return to seller. Great but the label has my name and address on it so I’m returning said cardboard to myself. Whatnot support are not worth the title of support. I will be avoiding from now on. Buyers beware

We understand how frustrating it is to receive something completely different from what you expected and then run into an issue with the return label. We requested additional information so we could investigate further, but unfortunately we didn’t receive the details needed within the response window. If the return label provided was incorrect, please reply to your existing support ticket so our team can review and correct it.

Good platform and deals, but low return claim limits, slow shipping, and high shipping costs are pushing me away

I like Whatnot overall. It’s easy to find and save live shows, switch between different lives, and the app is organized well. The live-auction format is fun and makes it easy to discover different sellers, products and the great deals you could get.

There are a few areas that could really improve the buyer experience. Shipping should have a clearer and more consistent time limit. I’ve had purchases take 1–2 weeks to arrive, and some sellers take too long to ship or are difficult to get a response from. Some sellers are excellent, but others are not consistent at all. High shipping chrges keeps me from bidding on most items, if item is worth $5-10 dollars, your shipping rate most of the timr comes up at 7.99 or over, how are people going to want to overspend on these items with shipping being this high, keepes usbfrom wanting to buy smaller items and keeps sellers making less money on lower value items.

It would also help to have more control over what lives come up next when flipping between shows. Sometimes I’m switching between lives I’m interested in, but unrelated lives get mixed in between. Being able to better manage or prioritize the lives you want to move between would make browsing much easier.

The live screens can also become too crowded. There are so many banners, comments, notifications, and words covering the screen that sometimes it’s difficult to actually see the item being sold.

My biggest concern is the return/claim system. Buyers should not be penalized because of their claim history when the claims are for legitimate seller issues. I’ve received wrong items, items that didn’t match what was shown during bidding, items listed as new that arrived damaged or not working, possible counterfeit items, and orders where items were missing. These situations are outside the buyer’s control.

I have had claims from shady sellers and from seller errors, but I also purchase quite a bit on Whatnot and buy from many different sellers. When you buy frequently from different sellers, problems are naturally going to come up from time to time. The issue is that once you reach a certain number of claims 2 or 3 claims i think, your account becomes restricted or future claims become much harder to resolve, even when the problem is clearly caused by the seller.

That is what makes me uncomfortable continuing to spend as much money on Whatnot. If another seller sends the wrong item, a damaged item, something fake or not as described, leaves items out of an order, or otherwise causes an issue, I don’t feel comfortable knowing my future purchase may not be fully protected because I already had previous claims.

I’ve had frustrating situations with sellers, including shady sellers, where what I received did not match what I was purchasing or they failed to send expensive items i won for cheap. When situations like that happen, the buyer should not eventually lose protection simply because they have had to file claims in the past.

Because of these issues, I’ve started leaning more toward TikTok live auctions. I would rather spend my money somewhere I feel more confident that my purchases are protected if a seller sends the wrong, damaged, fake, incomplete, or misrepresented item and I like how fast there items are received. Normally within 3 to 7 days. Its rare to receive items around 7 days there and shipping charges are cheaper

Overall, I enjoy using Whatnot and there are many good sellers on the platform, but the biggest reasons I’m starting to stay away are the claim limitations and inconsistent shipping times. Since I buy quite a bit from many different sellers, I don’t want to feel like every legitimate claim is counting against me and could eventually leave future purchases less protected. Waiting 1–2 weeks for some orders and then worrying about whether I’ll still be able to get help if something is wrong makes me hesitant to keep purchasing as much on Whatnot.

Claims should be reviewed based on the evidence and circumstances of each individual order, not simply how many previous claims a buyer has made. Stronger seller accountability, clearer shipping expectations, better control over live-show navigation, a cleaner live-screen layout, and a fairer claim process would make the experience much better and make me more comfortable spending money there.

I believe sellers should not be able to…

I believe sellers should not be able to “ ban “ someone just because and whatnot should not reward this behavior.

Sellers and moderators can remove or ban users from their shows to help maintain a safe and respectful environment and manage their live communities. These moderation tools are an important part of keeping shows safe for both sellers and viewers. If you believe a seller is using these tools in a way that violates our policies, you can report the seller in the app for review.
