If you have an under an hour layover, avoid this airport. It is made for your inconvenience and the many pass and security control equipped with the rudest personnel will add to your desperation

Worst airport experience

My ordeal at the Vienna airport started when my connecting flight was canceled while I was on my flight to Vienna. After seeing that my connecting flight was cancelled me and my colleague headed for the passport control so that we can exit and find a place where we can ask about the flight that was cancelled. We asked various employees for directions where we can inquire regarding the flight. They all provided us with wrong directions, we spent and hour and a half trying to figure were the correct Austrian Airlines counter was. We walked the airport up and down for four times, went even through security just so that we end up on a wrong counter. At the end, one of the passport control employees helped us find the correct counter which was at the other side of the airport, and no one before mentioned it.

Finally when we arrived at the Austrian airlines counter we found ourselves at the end of a huge waiting line, just for reference we were issued a ticket number 204 and the current number on the counter was 54. We were waiting for 9 long hours to even get to the counter, just to be greeted with arrogant and rude, totally unhelpful staff. The woman at the counter didn't care about helping you find the easiest way to reach your end destination. She wanted to reroute us to a completely third country, stay a night there (they refused to pay for a hotel for one night) and the following day to catch another flight to our original destination.

In the end, since I was insisting on a different flight one of the ladies at the other counters helped us find a more convenient flight which the first person was convincing us was fully booked. But the torture didn't end here, since our checked in luggage wasn't with us we urged them to put the luggage on the same flight with us, and they lied to us that the luggage will be loaded on the plane with us which of course wasn't. Even when boarding the flight the employees assured us that the luggage is at the moment in transit and that will be loaded shortly, of course it wasn't. What's even worse, they kept our luggage in Vienna airport for 6 days. SIX effing days.

Won't be travelling using Austrian airlines ever again, and will make sure to never step foot on their airport. Never seen more incompetent and unhelpful staff.

Worst airport!

Horrible experience! We were in transit there and had an hour to catch our next flight. Two times we went through thorough security, just after arrival and before the gate which I find frustrating and useless since we had all controls made before getting into the aircraft at the original airport. The gates could not be possibly further from each other so after spending over 30mn of our transit time through security queues, we spent the rest of the hour running to find the gate through a very bizarre and confusing path. The policeman at the entrance of the G gates (just before G01) a thin, short, white haired guy, was yelling around and and mostly bullying people during the check. I had to remove my sport shoes (for the third time that day) and went through the little portal that rang for me probably because of my bra. A lady started checking me first by hand (every millimetre and even going under the trousers around the waist) then all over with the metal detector and finally asked me to sit. So i asked why did she want me to sit before she explained that she wanted to check the feet! Again, I might find this stupid and unnecessary but fair enough. At this point the police guy started yelling: Sit down, sit down, I’m police! Sit down! I asked him to be polite but he replied “what did you say” as threatening me that if I said another word I would be in trouble!!! I’m sorry but when enough is enough? We are travellers, we pay for it all and deserve to have a nice confortable time! When has going on holiday has become a bullying, humiliating and stressful experience? Don’t these people understand that their jobs depend on our business? Why do I have to feel like a criminal several times a day and indure literal bullying by people that look like they have forgotten the original aim of their job and find pleasure in treating people with disrespect. Why am i paying for these morons? Never ever will i buy a ticket if it goes through this airport! Avoid at any cost if you don’t want to ruin your holiday!
