Truly awful experience
Truly awful experience. App is antiquated and without biometric authorisation you cannot make meaningful transactions, but you cannot get biometric authorisation without a history of transactions. Staff are variously poorly trained or incapable of escalating to more empowered colleagues. If you do not wish lose hours of your own time trying to manage your ( not their) money AVOID THIS BANK AT ALL COSTS
AN AWFUL BANK
I had to get my Bank to use the Switching service to get MY money from my current savings account.
I originally had a Loyalty Saver account but about nine
months in I wanted to transfer some of that money. I asked them to do the transfer via my Nominated Lloyds account and was told NO I had to have an Ulster current account. That was the first time I had heard about that. I asked about setting one up via the phone again No, you have to be in a branch of which there aren't any in England. By this time I was starting to loose the will to live. Finally I managed to drag out of the m...n I was speaking to " go into any Nat West or
Royal Bank of Scotland" and they can sort everything.
He made it very clear that they would be able to have access to my Ulster account.
I made an appointment to go into our local National Westminster and guess what they weren't expecting me. I think the mee t and greet lady could see I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown so she got another member of staff, the Manageress I think. Nat West could not access my account or any Ulster Bank account. I was blatantly lied to. Finally after contacting Ulster Bank she was kind enough to do a
Chaps Transfer without a charge.I then put in a complaint and after awhile received some compensation.
I wish I could say that was the end but it wasn't they still had some of My money in My current count. I will do an update at a later date. I put in another complaint and a lady called Ellen Ash is supposed to be dealing with it. They have now breached the eight
weeks they have to resolve the matter before I could go to the FOS. I have tried to speak to this woman but she never seems to be available !! So I shall move forward.
My advice is if you have money in an Ulster bank Current account ask for help from your own Bank.
Good luck, this is a bank I would suggest people stay clear of from my experience.
appless
They advertise to use the app,no matter what I try even reinstalling the app,it will not open.!!!!
Was looking to opening a savings account, but …
Was looking to opening a savings account with them due to their headline rate, but after reading peoples' reviews will do so with a bank with much better customer reviews and much better daily transfer rates.
Easy to open and then downhill.
Opened an account remotely and online from the UK. When it came to closing the account and accessing my tax certificates or "anything" - I was no longer able to do ANYTHINNG remotely and was told I needed to go to an Ulster Bank location.
After the 3rd call one of the customer service agents FINALLY told me I can go to ANY Nat West or RBS location to get what I need.
Woeful.
Outdated and Glitchy
App and website badly need updating. App has crashed so many times, and you tend to end up on a bit of a password hunt, reciting numbers and being sent back and forth between pages. I only came to transfer a tenner! Too much malarky. Sort it out UB.
Banking App is useless
Banking App is useless. I have tried repeatedly to change address, which should be straightforward. every time I chat to Cora I get a response - we will respond within 3 hours. When they do respond, and i write back, another message we will respond within 3 hours. Its a joke. Any automated instructions lead me round in circles with no solution. i will be leaving ULster bank asap after this debacle
It took me three phone calls
It took me three phone calls, and three hours to get the information I needed. The first two calls I was given the completely wrong advice.
Shocking service.
Bank refuses to action request to close account
I have submitted two requests to the bank to close my account and send me the interest owing on my saving account. This process is meant to take 72hrs.
I have received no communication from the bank, my account remains open and I do not have the interest that bank owes me.
There chat bot is useless wont let you speak to anyone.
I have had to raise a complaint to get access to my money.
Good interest rate, dark ages tech
The mobile app is useless if you use a password mgr as it requires you to enter specific characters and goes back to the beginning if you switch apps (eg between the Ulster bank & your password mgr).
There’s a fairly low limit for transfers out, plus after your 2FA login to mobile banking an online transfer requires your card and card reader.. I’ve not had to do this for over a decade banking elsewhere so can’t really believe it’s adding much on the security front.
No interest paid
No interest paid
No interest paid. Been trying to get the interest they owe me for 3 months now. Multiple calls and nothing. Trying to make a complaint online is impossible and they have no email address. This is theft, plain and simple.
Excellent service
Hi, visited the Ulster bank branch in York street, Belfast, talked to a staff member called Alana about problem with the app, this lady was absolutely first class, she was so helpful and understanding, explained everything to me, no rush, made sure I understood everything,a real pleasure to speak face to face with someone who obviously knows their job, many thanks, Ray Page
Hopeless Bank - Avoid
Hopeless bank. Tried to open an account. It failed after providing all my data. The chat based support also failed. Tried again later in the day. The chat support was slow and very unhelpful. Wasted so much time and still no account. Utterly awful.

It is bit of a fiddle to set this savings account up.
But like everyone I was attracted to the high interest rate.
I did select monthly interest installations, that didn’t happen.
Looks like it annually.
I’ve had one payment on 29th of December.
I haven’t tried to withdraw my money into another account yet, I’m hoping that it will be a straight forward process.
Frustrating...AVOID.
Tried to close my account and get my money back, to no avail. Useless chat adviser just kept cut and pasting standard advice. Very frustrating. Now have to wait for a PIN and card...up to 10 days and can then only withdraw a limited amount per day. Avoid this bank if you can.

After trying over 3 weeks to open an account HAVE GIVEN UP worst customer service ever they actually hang up the phone when talking several times.

It has to be said ulsterbank have to be the worst bank in the UK trying to pay my credit card and they are stopping me bank with them for more than 25 years but suddenly its not me making a regular payment to my credit card im moving banks as soon as I can DO NOT OPEN an account with this shower
Absolutely brilliant, honestly!
I honestly don't know why this bank has such poor reviews. I opened a saver account with them five months ago, attracted by the interest they pay. The application was easy, and the security features with finger print and facial recognition is what I would expect of any bank. Now, I pay money in and withdraw it, and the transactions are immediate. I am really very impressed. I have had no reason to contact customer service, so perhaps that is why people are moaning somuch, if so, get your act together Ulster Bank, because everything else is absolutely brilliant, and I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this bank to anyone looking for a high interest flexi saver account.
Avoid this company like the plague
Avoid this company like the plague. Wasted multiple hours on the phone to them to sort a simple problem and it was still never solved
