Ten out of Ten for being rude and aggressive
My name is Jasper Gilder and I am a training consultant with 38 years experience of training in Customer Care. – I know my business, having a string of blue chip clients
I have been using Turners Garage for work on my J reg Range Rover for about two years, they have a list of jobs to be done and told me in 2023 my vehicle would be booked in as soon as their ‘project ramp’ was available. Sadly after two years, the call has never come, but the work they have done to get the car through MOT has been exemplary and it has never failed under their care
Today – Wed 12 March I had a booking for a 9.00 AM MOT. The car has done little mileage since last year as my wife was taken seriously ill last April and passed away in September and my heart wasn’t in it. On Saturday I purchased a new battery and got the car running and also identified a couple of issues which an experienced technician could easily fix so I rang on Monday and offered to bring the car down a day earlier if it would help. I was asked by a very rude person if I thought they had no work to do, I explained that I was just trying to be helpful but it seemed that I was not being listened to
So this morning I arrived at 8.35AM and moved a road cone to access their parking area (there are terraced houses opposite so I guess they put them out to stop the locals parking) there is a sign saying authorised parking only – I guessed this does not apply to customers. Their premises were locked up so there was no-one to ask
At 8.50AM a chap with specs opened the door and started ranting at me to move my car as he hadn’t told me I could park there. The only other place was over the road and requires a residents parking permit which of course I don’t have. When I pointed this out the gentleman said that it was not his problem and went on to shout he wouldn’t be working on my car. He hadn’t said ‘Please’ at any stage which I did politely point out to him
So I moved the car and went back, giving him some time to cool off a bit and at 9.10 spoke to him through the workshop door as the office was still locked. I told him why I had done what I had done and whilst he appeared to listen, he still told me he would not work on my car because he said I had been rude, he went on to say that all our conversations had been video and audio recorded, obviously without prior notice or my permission. He said he would never work on my car ever again and that he had cancelled my MOT appointment, he would not tell me who it was with so I was unable to call them to apologise. He clearly doesn’t seem to need the work and seems perhaps, to have too many customers. All this because I moved a road cone!!
It was obvious that I was going to make no progress with this and it was too cold to stay so I returned home and rang him to inform him that he does not have my permission to use whatever recordings he has made and this note confirms that
So to be clear we have
1 – Breach of Contract (he was contracted to do an MOT on my car and refused)
2 – Incitement to commit an offence (park your car in a residents area – not my problem)
3 – Unauthorised video and audio recording
I’m fascinated to know if I will get an apology for this egregious behaviour.
I sent a copy of the above to Turners on 12 March There has been no contact and no apology.
In all my very extensive experience of customer service, the man who spoke to me is one of the ten rudest people I have ever encountered and has no place being allowed to talk to customers
