Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 368 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about extremely poor customer service, exceptionally long phone hold times, and completely unhelpful communication channels when trying to reach support agents. People also experienced deeply frustrating payment delays, unexpected account and check holds, alongside unresponsive branch staff during their regular visits. Some reviewers were happy with individual staff members who provided kind and professional assistance during challenging banking visits. These specific employees successfully resolved difficult problems, offered great personal support, and genuinely made a positive difference for those customers. A few consumers noted that these helpful interactions helped them avoid major financial losses or successfully clear up disputes.

On Aug 25 had services from a hair…

On Aug 25 had services from a hair salon for amount of $590. Card was declined even though had 1164 in my account. called fraud dept talked to them for 32 minutes and could not explain why it was tagged as fraud. Was told amount was cleared wait 10 minutes and try card again. Card was again declined. called fraud dept again and went through same conversations and was told again wait 10 minutes and payment would be put through. Card again declined.
Decided to use my Zelle to pay but when that was attempted told no Zelle account registered to me even though had used Zelle several times before.
Called customer service again and was told my Zelle account was closed(I never closed it) and to register for a new Zelle account.Reregisyered and when put in amount to be sent got message because of amount($590) needed further verification. Asked how to receive a text I put my phone number. When I got the text out on code came up as invalid!
Called again and the person I talked with said give me your email will send the code. Never recieved the code. Now I am sitting in the hair salon unable to pay because of all the banks screwups. Could not leave until posted the amount. Did not gave any credit cards except my debit card from your bank. After being on the phone for another 23 minutes finally talked to Brian and was told had to wait 24 hours to bank to verify transactions. That is absolutely ludicrous! The money was in my account I verified it was not a fraudulent transaction was told it went through. The person that was supposed to be paid already went home. Left a message on her phone to make sure she recieved the funds.
I sat in the hair salon from 4:30 to 7:23 trying to resolve the problem. On top of the severe embarrassment this caused me I will never be able to go back to this salon.
You have the very worst customer service departmentvI have ever dealt with. We were a Suntrust customer since 2004 and remained a customer when they became Truist but believe me My husband and U are rethinking our loyalty and considering changing to another bank

Worst bank ever if could rate zero…

Worst bank ever if could rate zero stars I would!!! Please go to any other bank and save yourself the headache! Truist is stealing money from customers like myself . I had $50 buck in my account and no overdraft feature . Which mean my account can not purchase anything over the amount of money I have in my account which was $50 . Somehow a two debit purchases of $100 dollars was allowed to be drafted out of my account! Then a ACH reversal of $100 was reposted back to my account . I called customer service and nobody could explain these fraudulent charges . This made my account go into negative. I asked can I just closed the account because I’ve been feed up with Truist . They told me know I also have to pay the negative balance that I didn’t put in the account in the first place ! I hate Truist with a passion and will never reopen a account with them again

Two fraudulent accounts were opened in…

Two fraudulent accounts were opened in my name. Despite immediate notification, multiple phone calls, talking to their fraud department and being issued a case number, Truist still refuses to close these accounts. I receive daily emails that I need to make a deposit into these fraudulent accounts. One of the worst experiences with any company I’ve ever had.

Then a day later I go in the grocery and get declined because they blocked the new account which had all the money I have in it. I call several times and let these people know that’s all the money I have and I am still waiting for the release of my funds as we speak. This is the second week and counting. Truist is trash you bet not open an account with them.

Poor Support for Business Customers

AS a Truist business customer, I spent more than four hours trying to complete a simple login reset so I could access the system used to pay our accounts payable. I went through five automated systems before finally reaching a person.

The representative then spent another 40 minutes watching me attempt to log in before concluding that the problem was on Truist’s end—apparently related to newly installed software.

The employees may care, but Truist’s systems and support process are not equipped to resolve even a basic access issue efficiently. When a bank’s technical problems prevent a business from paying its bills, that is a serious failure.

This experience, combined with other ongoing issues, caused me to move my banking relationship elsewhere. My advice to other business owners: start with another bank, not Truist.

The website is full of glitches…

The website is full of glitches constantly. Balances aren't reflected properly when it is working, the new AI "helper" tool anticipates payments and expenses to be recurring that were one-offs. System updates are run in the middle of the day at times, making site inaccessible. Junk

I wish I had checked the rating here…

I wish I had checked the rating here before I opened an account. I was duped into opening an online checking account with the promise of a $400 bonus upon meeting certain requirements. Those requirements are explained in legalese within the extremely lengthy terms and conditions. About 2 months after opening, I tried to get some info as to what had and hadn’t been done, on my part, to fulfill the promotion requirements. Crickets. No one will help me. I called customer service and they were clueless and useless. I sent at least 6 emails to a supposed “Client Resolution Senior Specialist” who has flat out refused to reply to me via email. After about 5 emails she left me a message that was of no help whatsoever. It’s pretty clear that this promo is intended to get ppl to sign up and that Truist has zero intention of honoring it. I’ll be closing this account and opening one with my local credit union.

This bank cannot be trusted

This bank cannot be trusted. My loan was sold to them. Without any warning they added my email to the account and made me think my identity had been stolen. They also did not transfer my name correctly to their online portal. In both cases I reached out to customer service and was told I had to go to a branch to resolve the issues. There are no branches in my area. I was on the phone for 3 hours today and spoke with 5 agents. In the end there was no immediate help. They promised to have it resolved in one business day. We'll see. Do not bank with Truist. Go with ANYONE else.

My mother has been with Truist bank for…

My mother has been with Truist bank for years, way before it was named Truist. I firmly believe they need to change their bank name to - We Do Not Care bank". My mother had fraud in her account, has a police report and they refuse to credit her money back. WTH! They basically told my mom she made these purchases. SHE DID NOT HENCE THE POLICY REPORT. I am going to have her switch to another bank that actually cares about their customers!

Truist Bank is withholding a stock…

Truist Bank is withholding a stock account transfer from my mother’s estate to me. They demand a face to meeting which I’ve been telling them for over a year is impossible since I live in another state and am unable to go due to circumstances beyond my control.

They refuse to allow one of 2 local branches to let me go in and sign to close this account out. The courts are waiting on this one last part to close out the estate.

Their protective demands to cover the bank have overridden good customer service and obligation. They really don’t care about customers. The fraud and corruption has hit them to the point all they’re interested in is profit they may be losing.
After what they have put me through there is nothing good I can say about this corporate giant that thinks they are Goliath. 08:21/2026

Longtime Customer (47 years)

Since 1979; I have had several accounts at Sun Bank, Sun Trust and Truist Bank.
Today; I will gladly be closing my last 2 accounts at Truist Bank.
Until the merger with BB&T, there were no issues with the bank. Since the merge; banking with Truist has been a nightmare.

They closed my CD account that had been open for years.

You must maintain 2 seperate online accounts for various personal/business accounts. Often it is impossible to access the online accounts.

They refuse to send paper statements. Continuously, changing my preferences to paperless billing. When I don’t get a statement; I don’t send a payment; I incur a late fee and my credit score drops. Hence, the reason I demand a paper statement. You get zero understanding from the employees.

It is nearly impossible to speak to a customer service representative on the phone. When you do reach someone, it is the wrong department and you will be transferred at least twice.

For business credit cards, you have 2 separate accounts, they never match and no one knows the difference between the two. All information that you request for the account, you will receive information about the irrelevant account; apparently, by default.

I strongly encourage anyone who is looking for a bank, to look elsewhere. Truist is not a customer friendly bank.

Very disappointed with the customer…

Very disappointed with the customer service. I do not bank with this company, yet I received emails stating I had an account, debt, and needed a debit card—all without my knowledge. I contacted customer service to report potential fraud and get answers, but the automated system was terrible and the representative was not helpful at all. Nobody seemed interested in investigating or explaining how an account could exist in my name. When someone is reporting possible unauthorized activity, I expect actual assistance, not endless automation and dead ends. This experience was extremely frustrating and has seriously damaged my trust in this company.

I was charged $25 to pay off my Truist…

I was charged $25 to pay off my Truist loan from my TRuist account! (explained that the loan department is separate from the bank/account portions). In addition, I deposited a check at the Chase ATM INSIDE the bank, only to have the machine take my check, NEVER register or give me a receipt. I reported to the bank clerk immediately, who filed a claim, received a comfirmatory email within 24 hours. 17 days LATER, they still have not recovered the check or credited me. I called today and they are going to "expedite" my claim. Unacceptable! ( I would use other language). I am looking for an new bank.

Worst bank ever

Worst bank ever. They are a nightmare to work with. The communication within the bank is poor and the staff is unprofessional. One employee tells you one thing, while another tells you something completely different.
