Normally quite happy to visit Toby Carvery Redhill but tonight was very dissapointing to say the least. The amount of meat was hardly enough to make a sandwich. They had run out of vegetarian bak... See more

The Toby Carvery Aintree race course
The Toby Carvery Aintree race course , consistantly closes it's doors hours earlier than advertised on the internet, which is 10pm last food service 9pm. Last night 2nd June 2026 they closed the doors at 7.30, 2 hrs 30 minutes early. Last week they turned away a party of aprox 14 when they closed at 8pm and turned customers away again last week at 8.30. This inconsistancy is shoddy management at best, and a complete let down for potential customers. I have never experienced another restaurant behave in such an inconsistant manner.
Strathclyde Park disaster
Strathclyde Park
We’ve been eating at this Toby Carvery for over 13 years, so we’re not exactly first-time customers who don’t know what to expect. Unfortunately, this visit has ensured we won’t be returning.
We were seated quickly, which was about the only thing that went well. The queue for the carvery only had five people ahead of us, yet somehow we spent over 25 minutes waiting to be served. It genuinely felt like waiting for a doctor’s appointment rather than collecting a roast dinner.
Eventually we reached the server and were presented with what can only be described as transparent slices of pork and beef. I’ve genuinely seen thicker slices of ham in a supermarket sandwich.
Things only got worse. At the gravy station there were only two pots sitting under the vegetarian gravy sign, and neither looked remotely like the usual original gravy. We had to ask a member of staff whether the proper gravy was coming, only to be told that one of those pots actually was the original gravy. If that’s what your original gravy now looks like, I’d hate to see what the rejected batch looked like. It was lumpy, discoloured and completely tasteless.
Then came the meal itself.
The carrots were rock hard and completely devoid of flavour. The mashed potatoes tasted sour, almost as though they had been made with milk that had gone off. The roast potatoes somehow managed to taste damp and stale at the same time, which is an achievement in itself. The pork was wafer-thin and tasteless. The beef was no better.
Three of us ordered exactly the same meal, and all three plates were equally awful. Even my daughter, who normally enjoys a Toby Carvery, couldn’t eat hers.
We asked a waitress to remove the plates. Her response was that someone from the kitchen would have to taste the food first and, if it was as we claimed, they would remove it from the bill. That response suggested our honesty was somehow in question.
The truth is, I couldn’t have cared less about the cost of the meal. I hadn’t driven there hoping for a free lunch. I had driven there hoping to enjoy a decent meal with my family after over thirteen years of being loyal customers.
The meals were removed from the bill, but we were then simply told there was nothing else they could do.
So, hungry and disappointed, we left and ended up buying lunch at M&D’s instead.
After more than thirteen years of choosing Toby Carvery, it’s remarkable that one visit managed to undo all that goodwill in the space of a single lunch.
This wasn’t simply “not up to the usual standard.” It was, without exaggeration, the worst carvery meal we’ve ever been served.
We won’t be returning.
Toby Carvery The Barnes
We visited Toby carver at The Barnes Sunderland and always find the staff professional and helpful. We visited today 1/7/26 and Carol in particular was very friendly and helpful.

Elise was an absolutely amazing hostess, she treated us with such care and went above and beyond. We have been several times now on a Sunday and Elise always goes out of her way to make us feel comfortable and to ensure we have everything we need. She is an absolute asset to Toby carvery at Roborough. Such a beautiful young lady

Something is seriously wrong at the…
Something is seriously wrong at the castle point Toby carvery. I am Army veteran and went in for my armed forces day free breakfast. Sounds lovely took my missus and paid for hers. Here’s where it all goes wrong. The plates need to be taken to the skip I suppose they were white once. The counters dusty greasy as if someone forgot to clean down from last nights service. After waiting 20 minutes for some food to reach the hot plate. No sausages no bacon no eggs. The chef constant apologised for the long wait apparently he was training!
The food that was at the hot plate was awful dried up hard black pudding pancakes and wet mushrooms is what was available. I spoke to the manager/ supervisor and she said the equipment wasn’t working properly.
This is the second time I have visited and the second time I have complained. I went away with an empty belly also my partner. The other customers saying it’s like this all the time. Shocking. I couldn’t use the code for the free breakfast at any other Toby as it already scanned at castle point. So what did I get absolutely nothing Thanks guys
Not impressed
We used to go to toby quinton awile ago...but didn't rate carvery...we've been today and can honestly say we won't be going back
Nasty manager now and bad meat
I have been going to Toby Carvery Snaresbrook for over a year now, usually weekly sometimes twice a week. Staff are always good. Tonight I got my usual some of each meat and piled on the veg. By habit I leave the meat almost till last, and the beef till last. Tried some of the beef, the bit I tried had some fat on it. It tasted nasty so spat it out onto my fork and put it back on the plate. Finished up the remainin g bits of veg yhen ernt back to the beef Chose another piece, this time cutting off the fat. Nasty taste again, back onto the plate, I thought to lift up the plate and smell the beef. I was shccked, it smelt literally bad/off, quite nauseous. Asked to see the manager. Tonight it was the lady manager. She was rather snide, she told me they would void the bill. She also said that I had complained every time I had been there which was an outright lie. I asked her to please smell the meat for herself. She said no. Over a short conversion I asked her at least 4 more times to please smell the meat then she would see what I meant. She said that would be unhygienic. So she implied that I always complained, would not smell the meat so she could understand why I complained. On the way out I said I would not be going back. I recall that I had a run in with her before some months ago and she was snide then also. Her attitude, thinking about it, both times, was mocking. I have been giving this some thought. I am christian, there have been times when I, shall we say, have been gotten at, by people that were involved with things on "the other side". Strange as this might sound, I would not be surprised if she was involved in something like witchcraft.
Awful toby in Burton-on-Trent…
I went to the toby in Burton-on-Trent while they had an offer of £7 carvery. It was a hot day so quiet for 4pm but they couldn't offer refillable soft drinks as machine broken. I ended up with a 250ml can. The turkey & beef were dry & I wasn't impressed with the vegetables. The carrots were going brown, peas were hard and I didn't even try the macaroni cheese as it just looked like dried pasta without any sauce. Wasn't at all happy but find it too embarrassing to complain, its not like they can resolve the issues. Glad I didn't pay full price! Can't see us going there again.
Disappointed birthday
Ive been using toby for years but it has started going down hill 😪 i Took my son for something to eat for his birthday at dudley only to leave most of it because you could tell most of the food was from yesterday the vegetables were very dry and crusty also the potatoes 🤢 had loads of black lumps in it the meat was very very dry also so in the end very disappointed that i paid £30 just to leave nearly all of it 😡
Torby's Huddersfield on Sunday 21st…
Toby's Huddersfield on Sunday 21st June 2026, and once again we had a fantastic experience.
The restaurant was incredibly welcoming, and a huge part of that is down to Laura and Michelle. Laura was absolutely brilliant throughout our visit. She checked on us several times to make sure everything was perfect, asked if there was anything else she could help with, and genuinely made us feel valued and welcome. You couldn't ask for better service.
Michelle is equally wonderful. She is always cheerful, smiling, and happy to see us. Even when we're not seated in her section, she'll still make a point of coming over to say hello. As regular customers, it's lovely to be recognised and made to feel so welcome.
Between them, Laura and Michelle are outstanding members of staff. They are efficient, professional, caring, and always go above and beyond for customers. Watching them interact with other families and children shows just how dedicated they are. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and they consistently put customers first.
The atmosphere they help create is a huge reason why we enjoy coming back. Their bubbly personalities, positive attitudes, and attention to detail make every visit special. We honestly don't feel the place would be the same without them.
Good customer service can be hard to find these days, but Laura and Michelle are a credit to Torby's. They treat people with kindness, respect, and genuine care from the moment you walk through the door until the moment you leave.
Thank you, Laura and Michelle, for your hard work and dedication. We always look forward to our visits, and it's even better when we see that you're working. Your efforts are truly appreciated and deserve recognition.
Laura and Michelle, you are rewarded outstanding by us (your customer) thank you for making it another pleasant visit. 😍
Toby Carvery Festival Park
Toby Carvery Festival Park, Stoke on Trent. Absolutely shocking staff, on arrival was met with a guy behind the desk who didn't even greet you just looked at you like he didn't know what you were there for, had to wait for a table, decided to get drinks while waiting, got ignored and accused of queue pushing and when eventually came round to us ordering drinks the bar maid disappeared, the other guy behind the bar then continued to serve people arriving after us. Seems staff don't know what they are doing and clearly decided to be awkward. Safe to say we did not stick around for our table and left. Rather go elsewhere!!
Toby Carvery Gravesend
Toby Carvery Gravesend. Haven't been for a while due to surgery. Decided to go on an off chance. Had a great time. Milena, Ryan, Andy and Harper, Made our day. The service was 1st class and the food was brilliant. All the staff are a credit to the company.
The Huge Yorkshire puddings., remind me of the ones my mum used to make.
Toby carvery, The Crown Bromley
Toby carvery - The Crown, Bromley
Arrived at 5 to 8 (car being worked on) knowing they don't open until 8am, this morning they didn't open the door until 8.10 with the manager explaining they don't normally get people arriving until 9am.
Paid at the bar and was then told nothing was ready just yet, but I was prepared to have a cuppa and wait.
10 minutes later food had been prepared.
Bacon so hard and overcooked you could sole your shoes with it (in my opinion left over from the day before & reheated) took the least dry option but still couldn't eat it.
Eggs were hard and had been left under a heat lamp (fresh??)
Beans had a film on the like they had been sitting for ages under a heat lamp.
Mushrooms - slightly slimy texture
Yorkshires & potato hash were waiting when I got there so assume we re-heated from previous day.
Sausage & hash brown ok.
Tea & toast were the best and I made these myself.
Manager asked if all was ok and I told her my issues to which she offered to have bacon cooked fresh, which I declined as my car was ready. Was offered a free drink, again declined.
Would not eat breakfast at a Toby again, head to spoons or local cafe.
Toby at Wilson Arms in Knowle
I visit the Wilson Arms in Knowle, West Midlands once a month but today's food was not up to the usual standard. The meat portions were very small and the vegetables were wet and sloppy. The cauliflower cheese was well over cooked as were the roast potatoes which were very hard and must have been standing a while. The parsnips were undercooked. The waitress was very good and said they were understaffed in the kitchen. Not a good excuse, trained staff should know how to prepare and cook food. Not to standard Toby, we will not be visiting again anytime soon.
Carvery 11.30am and abandoned??
Was in Langley at 11.30am at travel lodge, so decided to visit the attached Toby carvery, doors open so walked in, there were people sat at a table and outside so appears open right?? No one at the reception desk, so I went to the bar.
And waited
And waited
And waited
And decided not to wait any longer, no staff visible, bar unattended, guess they weren't interested in having customers!
Can't rate staff as none viable
Can't rate service as didn't get any
Can't rate order or even attitude of staff as didn't get served, could have gone behind the bar and served myself with how quiet it was!
Took photos showing how abandoned it was but can't upload here it appears.
Service at Toby carvery Highnam…
Service at Toby carvery Highnam Gloucester was brilliant. Attentive friendly and helpful my friend and I experienced customer service at its best. Well done Dean! Food was delicious and portion size was great.
We’ll be back 👍
Disgusting staff
Disgusting staff
Just been into the willoughby branch had dinner the food was cold paid the bill went outside had a angry women shouting at me accusing me of not paying my bill
I had the receipt and told her the price I had paid and she grunted and walked off with no apology
Just rang the branch to speak to the general manager and he assured me the lady was not normally like that with many 5* reviews
When I explained that makes my thoughts that I was being discriminated against due to my looks because he said she never normally behaves like this I felt she had targeted me.
He then started to say he had never said that and he will not have his staff being accused of racism and he will not speak to me no more
Not the point that he will take my criticism on board and have a word about it just flat out refused that this could of actually happened
Misleading offer for children during…
Misleading offer for children during half term. I was over charged for a 2 and 5 year old. Contacted Toby who acknowledged receipt of my complaint but have heard nothing for almost 4 weeks. Great customer care!!
Not good at all
We went to the Toby carvery in Langley Green, Crawley this evening and were very unhappy with the food we got. We both had the set 2 course menu, the starters were great, it all went downhill from there. The roast potatoes despite having just come out from the kitchen were cold and hard. We had to wait 5-10 minutes for fresh onions and peas to come out. The guy from the kitchen went in with the empty pea container, came out with more stuffing which wasn’t needed then went back, came out with peas then onions. He and the guy serving had one speed, very slow and by now there was a long queue waiting for vegetables. The Yorkshire puddings were cold, flat and soft and inedible. We complained about the Yorkshire puddings and she brought us 2 fresh ones, she was very apologetic but the so called fresh ones weren’t fresh at all, cold soft and inedible. We complained again and again, she was very apologetic and gave us one of the carveries for free. It’s not the first time we’ve had an issue here and we won’t be returning
