Forget customer satisfaction

I completely echo what the other negative reviewers have said.
We received a pallet box full of woodworm resulting in many damaged slates, as the packaging had collapsed during transit.
The slate company laid all responsibility at the feet of the courier and tried to hide begin their terms and conditions to renege on supplying replacements or a refund.
There was also an offensive drawing on a tile which they allowed through their (non-existent) quality control.
The attitude of the management was frankly childish and unprofessional, stating several times that this situation had not happened in “30 years of business”, yet there seems to be other clients with similar experiences….. My advice if you can’t buy anywhere else is to pay with a credit card, as at least you can make a chargeback claim (as I have successfully done), when things go wrong. I would have preferred replacement tiles for the damaged ones but hey ho - lesson learned.
The slate company only produce their terms and conditions after you have paid and attempt to use them without hesitation instead of trying to keep the customer happy & find a realistic solution. I was told to try and fit the floor and if I didn’t have enough tiles, send the tiles (800kgs) back to the company for a refund……….🤣
If you raise a complaint by phone, your number will be blocked and they will not pick up and let their office management company take messages - They won’t return your call.
If you raise a complaint by email, they will simply ignore it and then ‘Peter’ ( no surname given) may / may not reply after a week with drivel / excuses / quoting t’s & c’s.
Be warned, client satisfaction is not a priority for this cowboy outfit.

Appalling customer service - do not use them.

The Slate company does not understand customer service. They charge £150 for delivery and yet my quartzite flooring tiles were just placed loosely in a crate with no packaging. They moved around, arrived scratched and damaged and 3 were broken. Their attitude was that they sell a lot of these and no one else had complained. I was invited to send back the unopened crate at my own expense. No apology. They will not discuss concerns over the phone, only via email.

Do not waste your money with this…

Do not waste your money with this company. They refuse to replace tiles damaged in transit. My tiles arrived several had been damaged, before signing the delivery note the driver wrote damaged on it. Despite this and it being the law in the UK they refuse to refund or replace the damaged tiles. I advise spending your money with a more reputable supplier who operates within the law.

Dismissive, disdainful and apathetic.

This company has a high profile, being featured on Grand Designs, and various publications, so I felt like I was in good hands. But my 5 crates of slates arrived ( quite late ) with one crate of rotten timber in broken condition; slates had fallen through the sides. The slates had been re-stacked flat instead of upright by workers of the trucking company. You're given 20 minutes to check everything, which is impossible, on arrival. I saw a couple of broken slates on initial inspection sitting on top. I then contracted a severe case of Covid and did no further checking. On resumption of building, I found 70 broken slates in the damaged crate. I wrote 3 emails to the company with photos of the damage to the slates, and photos of the damaged crate; none were answered. I phoned to speak to the manager, "he's not available". The bigger the company, the less they need to bother with a small customer like me, and hide behind their terms and conditions. My treatment has been appalling and dismissive. The receptionist was argumentative. I haven't treated my own customers like this if there was a problem. I have no complaints about the intact slates, which are very good value, and I have put up nearly a third of them so far, they look nice. But it's nerve wracking, you don't have full confidence that slates packed badly won't crack ( some have broken in my hand while placing them ). I'm currently laying slates from a second crate, only one broken slate so far. It's one thing for a company to be respectful and enthusiastic to new customers, and another thing altogether once they have your money, according to this one. An honourable manager would at least have read my emails and replied.
Update: 7/11/2022
Finished one side of the house, the properly packed slates have quite different slates to the crate that broke. The broken slates were really old stock I think, because the other slates are more uniform. The "Weathering Scotia " I bought are indeed dificult to lay because they are fragile ( not like Welsh slates! ) I did enquire if they were strong and was told they were, so another unhelpful aspect of this company. I have to be really careful I don't lay one that has a defect, because plenty do. I should in retrospect have gone to a more reputable source and paid a bit more. You do get given bad products sometimes by traders who don't care much, I know, but this company is disdainful of owner builders like me who have to watch every pound.
