Poor communication and lack of local knowledge

The accommodation was ok - although one hotel was very dilapidated - but was redeemed as the restaurant was great. The luggage transfers and the other transfers were good too. However, there were some issues which I think were due to poor communication and a lack of local knowledge. The walks averaged out at about 20 k a day but one day was 11k and we started late and had a leisurely lunch only to find that when we arrived at the town it was another 5 k walk to the hotel along a very busy road. This was not in the trip notes or on the gps guide given to us. Also at some hotels we had to pay a tax and at others, even in the same town, we didn't and we could have been informed about this. On the website, the tour was described as including 2 meals and a couple of packed lunches but we did not receive these. When I queried this when i returned home, they just said it was a mistake on the website description ( I noticed now they have taken it off). As I booked the group of 8 this was a bit embarrassing for me as the others members of the group thought they had paid for this. Sad to say no offer of compensation was offered. Needless to say this will probably deter us from using the company again.

Toubkal and Desert Adventure

This was a father and son trip - our first to Morocco and the desert. It was expertly coordinated by our lead guide Mohamed Maachou, who was ever-present and completely aware of all the details at all times. We stayed in his family home one night and his generosity and care was exceptional. Our mountain guide, Hassan, was equally adept, kind and very informative of local traditions and practices. In particular, his pacing on the mountain and management of mild altitude symptoms was masterful and completely confidence inspiring. Later in the trip we were driven into the desert and enjoyed quad biking, camel riding at sunset and sunrise and an over-night stay in a Berber camp. Again, our driver Mohamed was kind, courteous, attentive and proficient.
Overall this trip exceeded our expectations and was a wonderful - but safe - adventure.

Sarria to Santiago: Phenomenal Experience with The Natural Adventure

A friend and I did the 115km self-guided walk from Sarria to Santiago with The Natural Adventure. We had a phenomenal experience with the company. Clear communication, excellent support and frankly amazing hotels and pensions for a very very reasonable cost. We stayed in 5 different accommodations during the walk and all were excellent. We also had included a tour of Santiago as well, which was also fantastic. We could not recommend The Natural Adventure more - they deserve all the plaudits and we are actively planning to do another walking experience with them in the not-too-distant future.

Cycling the Camino Portugues Coastal Way

What an amazing experience. Professional service, great bikes. We had a fun week (despite the weather), and it is mainly because we didn't have to worry about accomodation or luggage transport, but to focus on ourselves.
The accomodations were good along the way and the guide book we got covered everything what we had to know.
I'm already thinking of the next experience with them.

I cannot recommend this company enough

I cannot recommend this company enough, from the pre-booking information provided, the booking itself and the information pack was exceptional. We were a group of 12 on the El Camino Portuguese Relaxed 125km. The hotels/hostels were immaculate, linen was super clean, towels aplenty. Breakfasts (included) were great, we could not fault anything about this trip. Thank you for making our adventure so comfortable and stress free. We all loved every minute of our experience.

Absolutely dreadful experience on la Gomera. The company sent us over the mountain in the middle of high wind alerts- all routes were officially closed and nobody bothered to suggest any alternative. Then they selected hotel on the construction site- major motorway being built - already started 1 year ago- that just shows how they dont update the route! also sent us for a swim in place where people died because its dangerous and officially closed off for year! Absolute shambles company- they outsource the local service to another company which is also not based on the island...wash their hands off and dont care about you as soon as you paid. DO NOT BUY WITH THEM!

Reply from The Natural Adventure

Thank you for providing feedback regarding the tour in which you participated last year. While we were surprised to receive your review, particularly since your concerns were addressed at the outset of your tour and our discussions concluded positively without any further communication, we shall make every effort to address the issues you have raised.

Firstly, we acknowledge that your visit to La Gomera coincided with adverse weather conditions in the region. While we sincerely regret the unfavourable weather you experienced, it is essential to recognise that such variability is an inherent aspect of outdoor activities that lies beyond our control.

In response to the recent flooding in Valencia, the government of the Canary Islands implemented an unprecedented measure by closing all walking routes and designating rangers to monitor access points. This decision was unexpected for our local team, as such actions had not been enacted in the past. Nonetheless, they made efforts to contact you to offer transportation to your next destination, if required. Unfortunately, they were unable to establish contact with you. However, discussions with the owner of your accommodation indicated that you did not express any concerns during your stay, nor did you seek guidance regarding the advisability of proceeding with the planned walk.

In light of the subsequent improvement in weather conditions and the absence of further communication, we remained unaware of your concerns regarding the accommodation or your swimming experience, including the specific nature or location of these challenges. As advised in your pre-tour information, addressing any issues as they arise is essential as this allows us to facilitate an immediate resolution.

Furthermore, it is important to clarify that self-guided tours primarily involve the organisation of essential logistics, including accommodations and luggage transfers, along with the provision of route notes. While these arrangements are made on behalf of participants, it remains the responsibility of each individual to assess whether any activity may pose potential risks or exceed their personal capabilities during the tour. In this particular instance, the government mandated that rangers supervise the entrances to hiking routes across the island to prevent unauthorised access. Upon your arrival, you were advised against proceeding; however, after extensive discussions, the ranger permitted you to continue at your own risk and recommended an alternative route.

Due to the unstructured nature of self-guided tours, it is essential to emphasise that we are unable to restrict guests from engaging in activities at their own discretion. Despite the warnings provided, it is regrettable that you chose to proceed regardless, disregarding the guidance of the rangers as well as the advisories issued by the government. Consequently, it is beyond our capacity to intervene in such decisions.

Finally, it is important to note that although our local team does not operate directly from La Gomera, they have successfully facilitated this tour for over twenty years. In 2024 alone, they accommodated a total of 730 guests, including three additional bookings overlapping with your scheduled timeframe, all of which concluded without incident. The numerous positive reviews featured on our website attest to the favourable experiences enjoyed by our guests, underscoring their high levels of satisfaction derived from participating in this tour.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your insights despite their belated receipt. While we regret to learn of the issues highlighted, we would like to reiterate our strong encouragement for guests to reach out to us during their tour, allowing us to address such matters at the time of occurrence. Our team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we welcome communication at any time. We wish you many more enjoyable adventures in the future.

Initial Trip Planning Has Begun!

So far, so good! We are just beginning our trip preparations with The Natural Adventurer, and Dalila has responded quickly and in detail to initial inquiries. I know there are other outfitters, but I was drawn to a smaller operation for personal service. We'll see!

Christmas in the Mountains

booked the highest peaks of the Atlas Mountains with the Natural Adventure Company. Everything was great regarding our guide Brahim Ouahi who was a local lad from Asni. Very knowledgeable and charming also our contact in Morocco Mohamed Maachou who made sure our accommodation in the mountains and Marrakesh was beyond good..
We summited Toubkal on Christmas morning which was a bonus. All round a great experience, we found the mountains fascinating and very welcoming.

Passau to Vienna Self Guided Cycle Tour

Fantastic trip. So well organised. Really cute little hotels booked for us each night. The logistics of having our luggage transported to the next hotel ahead of us each day worked so well. Great information and communication before the trip and comprehensive routes given when we arrived. This was the first time we’d had a cycling holiday and we loved it.
We will definitely be booking another trip with this company in the future.

Dalila went out of her way to quickly help

Having travelled with The Natural Adventure, and enjoyed immensely, their Tuscan self-guided walk we were keen to use the company again but wanted some variations to the advertised itinerary/route. Dalila liaised with me very promptly, investigated and was able to offer what our group wanted despite my initial email being sent over the Christmas break. Still haven't heard back from a rival company we also contacted more than a week ago...

Excellent customer care

We have booked several trips through Natural Adventure Company. Unusually, on our forthcoming trip, there was a complication beyond the company's control and the trip had to be postponed. I am pleased to say that our queries were resolved in a manner that was timely, highly professional and kind. It is great to find companies that really do look after customers! How refreshing! Based on our experience, we will certainly continue to book trips with Natural Adventure.

Best six day walking holiday in a long time.

I just loved hiking in Mallorca - it surpassed all expectations. I'm not a regular hiker, but I'm a keen one, and so this had the perfect level of pushing me but also inspiring me. The mountain scenery is just extraordinary, starting with Valledemossa, and then I loved combining that with coastal walks and a few days staying on the coast in Port de Sóller. We swam every day after walking while on the coast, ate amazing food and really loved every minute. We got cheap flights from the UK in October and so, all in all, we thought it was great value for money. The app and guide notes worked well, as did the transfers, and the hotels were fab, with massive breakfast, and enough to create a packed lunch with too. Bring walking poles, there are some steep, rocky descents, and make sure you bring your swimsuit to Cala Tuent for the start of that day's walk. You won't regret it.
