Beware of this fridge magnet company
I needed a faulty power point replaced and I sent SMS to thelocalelectrician, a fridge magnet delivered to my letterbox. “Good morning, are you the owner of the property or are you renting?” I texted back “owner, but what’s that got to do with it?” No answer to that but he/she said “I could organise an electrician to have a look for you.” I replied no I want a quote first. Not long after that Henry of H4ORCE Electrical called and quoted $180. I said OK thanks but I have other quotes to get, then I will let you know. He then said well I will give you pensioners discount so it will be $120. Well I thought what a big reduction, I won’t beat that, so he got the job. He arrived in the afternoon and after checking the faulty power point, he said I could have a double power point for $180. I said no thanks, knowing that a double uses the same wiring as a single, only the plate is different. He then went out the front alone to turn the power off. After some minutes he returned and said the fuse box had a wrong part installed and just plugging in at a power point you could get electrocuted. I went out the front with him and he showed me the wrong part between the Clipsal parts on either side. He then took the lever of the wrong part in his fingers and pulled it down but stopped in the middle, showing it would not trip to OFF. He did it again and I could see it would not go down. He did not ask me to try it. The whole board had been fully upgraded costing $1,100, 5 years ago by 2 electrical employees of a company. Henry offered to replace the part and it would cost $300. I reluctantly agreed. When I asked how long it would take, he said about half hour. He did it in a matter of a few minutes then did the power point. I was still totally bewildered as to how 2 guys would install the wrong part just to save the cost of one Clipsal of an $1,100 bill. Henry asked for $480. I said how did you get that? $120 + $300 is not $480. I said it only took you a few minutes anyway, not half an hour. He agreed to my offer of $320, being $120 for the power point and $200 for the fuse box part. I was still far from happy and I told him so. Henry left the wrong part that he had replaced and next day I tried it. To my amazement, it worked fine. Tripped to the OFF position every time. I texted him to ask how come it tripped for me but would not trip for you? He did not answer that but said it was the wrong part. Yes, I then found out it was the wrong part and the Clipsal part only costs $29. I later checked my security cams and found he went to his truck looking for something in 3 places before he went to the fuse box and it was 8 minutes before he returned inside the house, ample to change the Clipsal part with wrong part. Either 2 electricians in 2020, just to save $29, installed and were aware that the fuse box had a wrong part that could cause fire or Henry substituted the wrong part. Don’t be fooled by thelocalelectrician. They are not local, 40km from my address. They probably deliver fridge magnets all over Sydney and have a network of electricians ready to fleece you. If they ask are you the owner or renter, say renter. This only works if you are the owner as the renter would say, that’s up to the owner not me. I strongly recommend anyone using this company or any electrician to do electrical work, go with them when they go out to the fuse box to turn the power off. Watch everything they do.
