Very Disappointing

First time we visited the cowshed, had high expectations following reviews but sadly was very disappointed. The table position was good but sadly the service was shocking. No one was actually allocated to look after the table of 10 so was very scatty service. We waited over 40 min between starters and main course . The restaurant was busy but the Sunday menu consisted of mainly roast dinners , which from my own catering experience doesn't require vast amount of preparation for the chef , not like cooking individual meals. The beef dinner was well presented but the beef was tough and not pleasant to eat. Only 2 potatoes and no extra placed on the table as vegetables. So an expensive Sunday roast, not value for money at all . Empty glasses were over taking the table as no one came to clear them and there was no room to place anything. We took a cake and candles for the persons birthday but never saw it again, The cake was taken away on arrival and was not bought back out , was forgotten about and was told nothing could be done about it.
Overall, a very disappointing visit.

No food and No refund! I have never been treated so badly…

I have never been treated so badly in my life. I arrived at The Cow Shed take away, paid cash, sat waiting 20 minutes for chips and pineapple fritter, then I was told the fryer was full with online orders, so my order wasn't even looked at. All the head fryer said was 'we are busy' with so much contempt. I wasn't rude, I was very respectful, I then asked for my money back as my son was in the car needing ro get home for his dinner, only to be told that couldn't be done as there was no manager. This is not only completely unacceptable but also unlawful and trading standards will be receiving a phone call. I have paid for food that wasn't even being made and refused a refund even though I paid cash. I have never felt so overlook and undervalued in my 45 on this planet. disgusted doesn't even cut it.

GREAT FOOD EXCELLANT SERVICE

Hello there travellers family and friends Barry Allan here again huge foodie and lover of visiting and writing about new places to eat, phew the storms up here were really bad but id booked to eat at the cowshed and i decided to brave the howling winds and snow and off i went to The Cowshed located in the lovely little town of Banchory.

On arrival at the shed i wasnt surprised to see a virtually empty restaurant obvious really due to the extremely bad weather that was circulating but i was hungry and looking forward to seeing what they had to offer! On entering i was given the most friendly welcome by assistant manager front of house and all round lovely guy Sebastian who took care of me during my whole visit to the highest degree such a nice guy thanks, i was shown to my lovely table and the menu was placed before me i was hungry!

Upon perusal of the varied but not to much menu heres what i opted for starter chicken and duckwhich was confit chicken duck leg and raisin presse and an apple chutney and being honest for me this was a faultless starter the confit chicken complimenting the duck leg perfectly with the taste of raisin and apple chutney adding a lovely sweetness to the gamey flavours of the duck a well cooked and implemented dish really lovely!

Onto my main course and i went for the locally sourced rib eye syeak as everything is at the Cow Shed locally sourced! tomatoe parmesan salad chip shop chips oh the shed have their own chip shop attatched to the restaurant that sell exceptional fish and chips to take away so i also ordered a side dish of scampi to go with my meal i sat back enjoying the well decorated if not quiet restaurant it really is a lovely place and my main arrived!

wow now im fussy about the cooking of my steak but my succulent rib eye was done to absolute perfection lovely and pink in the middle no blood just as i ordered with that the lovliest freshest parmesan salad grilled tomato lovely chips and of course my wholetail scampi great! being honest everything on my plate was cooked to the highest degree the steak came with a really tasty garlic sauce that just added to the wonderful flavours of the meat and the scampi and the chips were again just perfect i couldnt have asked for any better a great main course!

So i decided on dessert and asked the lovely Sebastion who was such a great host and kept me company telling me Joy the owner was such a nice lady and that the shed sees customers from all over visiting them for his reccomendation he suggested the salted caramel tart with peanut and chocolate popcorn ha nice and ferrero rocher ice cream oh yes and oh yes what a dessert the caramel tart was so sweet and well balanced with the delicate saltyness the ice cream was so nice and the popcorn just added a bit of fun to the whole thing i absolutely loved it a great finish to a great meal! So all in all my review on the Cowshed is five star great food with really great service i will be going back soon as id like to see it with more people in but Sebastian and the team made sure i had a nice time whatever the weather thankyou very much folks a great place to eat best wishes Barry Allan

Disappointing

Decided to give this place a try for Sunday lunch. Our first indoor meal as we came out of Covid restrictions and a scouting trip to see how we felt about holding my upcoming 70th birthday bash there, and whether they could handle the number involved.

Initially seemed promising. Very quick to call back when I phoned and got their ansaphone, but on the day rather less so.

Didn't seem unduly busy, and lots of staff, so the slow service came as a surprise. Main course was OK but the beef was a little undercooked for our taste.

For dessert I asked if I could have the apple crumble with custard instead of the fancy sauce they were offering. First time in my life that hasn't been possible. "sorry sir, we don't do custard" :-p

To be fair my second choice, the cheesecake, was very nice but my better half regretted going for the crumble anyway. Apples were lovely but the crumble was bullet hard.

So, overall, somewhat disappointing. Especially given the price. Which is actually higher than they quote on their website for 2 courses. An error they said they'll correct 'in a few days'.

One thing that might be significant in any eatery during Covid, not just this one. The need to provide a decent airflow with an open window somewhere can make things feel slightly draughty if the weather outside is cold. Take a jumper.

We had previously heard a couple of good reports about this place so maybe they were just having a bad day.
