QBO: impossible to migrate

The documentation makes it sound like you can just "log in" to the cheaper Quickbooks Online plan. This is misleading - you must create a new (cheaper) account, manually migrate everything, then delete the old (expensive) account, and much of your old account can't copy over. The up-front language is very carefully worded to trick you - I thought that I had investigated the ease of migration in advance. It's NOT an easy migration from an existing QBO to a new, cheaper QBO. After paying the TechSoup fee, I'm backing out of the nonprofit pricing - $80 down the drain.

techsoup.org…

beneluxcustomerservice techsoup.org seem to have no idea what they are doing: they have no grasp of the different Microsoft licenses, platforms &c.
A very limited range of products, no sense of direction and very poor support. They do not take responsibility: I have the impression they have a team that just "presses buttons" and does not know what to do next (and does not care).

Update, february 2026: I have to make this clear: total incompetence from Techsoup! Months of waiting for 4 Microsoft Windows licenses and finally the reply" we could not solve the problem".

Beware hand-off to corps

Not only did I wind up with a too expensive Dell laptop, but its mic failed after a year and a half, and the whole computer completely died a year and a half after that. Having been placed in the Dell universe for purchase, we got stuck with going through Dell for a subscription to MS 365 that we found out later we could have gotten for FREE (as a charity) directly from Microsoft. We had been paying for it every year through Dell. Dismal experience. Will not use Techsoup or Dell again. A lot of wasted time and money. Date given is the last charge for the annual MS 365 subscription, which we cannot claw back, even though we now have MS 365 for free.

Absolutely abysmal experience

Absolutely abysmal experience. The TechSoup UK checkout is completely broken - the Stripe payment form won’t load, just a spinning icon forever. I’ve tested on multiple devices (Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad), multiple browsers, and multiple networks. Same result every time.
But here’s the real problem: there is literally no way to contact them.
• Live chat? Never available
• Support email? Auto-reply says it’s been “retired”
• Phone number? Doesn’t exist
• Community forum? You need to “build karma” over several days before you can post - and even then replies don’t work
I was a Charity Digital Exchange customer for years with no issues. Since TechSoup UK took over in July 2025, the service has fallen off a cliff. I’m a charity IT administrator trying to buy Windows licenses and I’m completely stuck.
An organisation that claims to serve charities has made it impossible for charities to get help. The irony would be funny if it wasn’t costing us time and money.
Avoid until they sort themselves out - or use Microsoft’s nonprofit portal directly if you can.

Adobe and TechSoup

Adobe began using TechSoup to qualify nonprofits. We are a church, and I have been a Pastor for 45 years. I have never had a problem with our nonprofit status. Even though the IRS automatically grants 501(c) (3) status to churches, TeachSoup will not recognize it. We have provided information on our nonprofit corporate status, etc., all to no avail.

We will be leaving Adobe due to this partnership and TechSoup's poor customer service. I would never use a company that cannot understand the nature of churches and is so obviously prejudiced against them. Very disappointed with them. Here is the exact statement from irs.gov.

Churches (including integrated auxiliaries and conventions or associations of churches) that meet the requirements of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code are automatically considered tax exempt and are not required to apply for and obtain recognition of exempt status from the IRS.

I'm very frustrated with Tech Soup

I'm very frustrated with Tech Soup. I opened an account with them because I want to order QuickBooks for my nonprofit. I ran into problems with the password. I followed the directions, but when I confirmed the password I was told that the passwords didn't match. Everything went downhill from there. Tech Soup Support and Live Chat are a joke. I can't talk to a live person. Thanks to AI I was able to get a phone number and called them. All I could do was leave a phone message. I haven't heard from them. All I can do now is send a letter.

Tech soup sells invalid subscriptions

Tech soup sells invalid subscriptions, and the customer service repeatedly gives incorrect information. I paid the fee for an Otter software renewal through them, but when I tried to purchase the renewal through Otter, it indicated that Otter is unable to process all discount codes for renewals. I attempted to contact Otter customer service to get it resolved, and never received a response. When I contacted TS, they had no idea that this was Otter's policy, even though it is clearly stated on Otter's website. They repeatedly told me I purchased the wrong product - I did not and finally provided them with a screenshot of my account. I was told the only option was to report it to the program manager. So my nonprofit is out of the fee that I paid to TS, and the increased renewal cost for Otter. Perhaps they are working together to take advantage of nonprofits?

Incompetence with Staff and what a 501(c)(3) is as we've been declined

Due to us having a Board Member who sits on two different non-profits, TechSoup has discriminated in not only declining the second organization, an entirely separate entity, however revoking the already verified status of the first organization. Staff incompetence and is acting as if they're the IRS in determination rather than doing their job in approving already Determined organizations by the IRS. What a failure to the mission of TechSoup and a ridiculous and defamatory response that we have somehow violated community guidelines, then referred to their legal department for further review. We have already contacted our legal team to determine options we have available to us based on this determination and discrimination.

Organization Approved: Then approval retracted and discriminatory

Our organization was initially approved by Techsoup as a recognized 501(c)(3) organization, however was retracted once I applied for another organization that I sit on the board with. They indicated: TechSoup: Ineligible Due to Non-Compliance of Community Standards due to both organizations having similar missions. You may need your Legal Team to get involved with TechSoup due to their incompetence of what a 501(c)(3) organization is and that one person can sit on multiple boards of different organizations.

Their support is astonishingly poor, almost hostile,

Their support is astonishingly poor and borders on hostile, certainly passive aggressive. We purchased a MS licenses in early November and after 17+ support emails, we still are not able to download the software. They answer one email a day, so the process is excruciatingly slow. Their response are not clear or they are inaccurate. For example, I was told to create a support ticket with Microsoft, except that when I do, the MS support tab merely lists TechSoup support, including an 800 number no longer in service. I've never experiences such bad support, I can;'t imagine how this can be of ANY value to a non profit.

We are Unacceptable Delays and Lack of Communication disappointed with…

We are extremely disappointed with TechSoup due to their lack of responsiveness and disregard for our critical needs as a nonprofit. Despite promptly providing all required documentation and repeatedly following up via email, we have received no acknowledgement or updates for nearly a month. Furthermore, even our attempts at direct registration through their website have gone unanswered.

This silence from TechSoup has severely hindered our operations, as we rely on the resources they facilitate access to, including crucial partnerships with Apple and Meta. The apparent indifference towards our urgent situation is unacceptable and unprofessional, especially from an organization that claims to support nonprofits.

Horrible experience

Ordered two computers. A laptop and a desktop.

The Laptop didn't work. Sent it back...didn't receive a replacement for three weeks. When it did arrive, it was a desktop, not a laptop. Had to send it back and request a refund. Received a refund for the less expensive computer that I kept (desktop) Too much effort on my part for a simple transaction.

Horrible Customer Service

What a horrible customer service experience! I was trying to work with them to figure out which Microsoft 365 admin center my purchased Microsoft Windows licenses are tied into, and I was placed in a queue with multiple people in front of me. Once connected, I was treated with the utmost disrespect. Also, they removed their phone support, so you are out of luck with trying to get anyone to work with you.

Customer support came through!

Hello,
I read the reviews about the lack of phone support and I was initially frustrated in contacting Techsoup to solve a registration problem.

However, on my second try I did contact customer support via chat and they resolved all of my problems in about 10 minutes.

I have now purchased Quick books online for my organization and I am a happy camper!

I have dealt with Techsoup for years

I have dealt with Techsoup for years. But, since they have turned off telephone support. I have found it impossible to contact them. They advise that there is a chat service, but it is no where to be found. I bought 2 antivirus software and have not seen anything about how to turn it on. No help from tech soup and no help from the antivirus company.
