Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 217 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently struggle to access their online accounts, describing broken password resets, persistent login failures, and completely dysfunctional website features that consistently prevent basic navigation. People also waste hours waiting on hold for phone assistance, only to receive incorrect guidance or experience total unresponsiveness regarding their formal complaints. Some reviewers were happy with the phone support when patient staff members finally answered calls and attempted to resolve tricky account problems. Consumers noted that individual advisers occasionally provided truly dedicated assistance to help users navigate extremely frustrating verification steps and missing paperwork.

Staggeringly awful

Staggeringly awful, TPS operate at such a level of incompetence that you almost want to applaud them, how is it possible for an organisation to be this bad and still allowed to function?

Misplaced my TP Ref No .... oh dear.

Misplaced my TP Ref No and so now seems to be impossible to get through their security, even on the phone. Told to fill out online form for reply within 48 hrs, but no response at all. Been trying to get access to my account for weeks and weeks. Total shambles of an organisation. I'm left wondering if I will ever get access again....

Where are my P60's? You are breaking the law!

I believe it is law for me to receive a P60? So why am I not receiving one? Although I have them from every year since starting work 39 years ago, the last I received from the Teachers Pension was 2023! Will be consulting a lawyer, after getting in touch with them a few years ago, & told them I refused to use their website after spending hours setting up passwords etc, & then next time I'm locked out so post it to me! I have lived over 40yrs at the same address. I bank, shop, use apps, book holidays via websites, but will never, ever waste any more of my retirement trying to use theirs! Completely useless & not fit for purpose!

Can I give 0?

Can I give 0?
Retired in September after 36 years. My pension award was late, and miscalculated. (When I pointed this out they angrily said this was impossible. I showed them the figures, and also explained they had done EXACTLY THE SAME in 2022 when I took my Phased Retirement, putting it through as Full retirement). They hadn't applied the actuarial reductions to my Final Salary, or allowed me to convert to lump sum.
By my reckoning my lump sum should be just short of £53,000. Their 'recalculation' after three months said it was £17,000! I have put in multiple complaints, but just keep getting 'Complaint Level 2 Holding' notices (4 so far) and have escalated it to the DfE. They are paying my monthly (incorrect) pension so I have enough to live on, but have had to cancel all the projects - home improvement, holiday etc- I had planned for the first year of my retirement.
It's been infuriating, time consuming and extremely depressing. I ring every Monday and get no further. THEY HAVE ONE JOB!

Pity those who have to deal with Teachers Pensions

If at all possible I would score Teachers' Pensions 0. This is a completely failing organisation that does a huge disservice to those who sadly have to deal with them. It is the fault of the systems put in place by management, not of the poor people who answer the phone, whose hands are tied by the incompetence of those above them.
As attorney for my father TP refused to ever give me access to his account, and also rescinded his own access. I therefore had no means to check his tax code. Complaints were totally ignored. As a bereaved person, TP has continued to do its utmost to make my life as painfully difficult as possible, with unbelievably poorly worded emails, repeated rejection of documents in formats they themselves have specified, and 2-3 week delays in processing anything at each and every stage. I absolutely dread every interaction with this failing service.

Refuses to tell me how much my pension is worth

How can a pension scheme, which is taken at source (in my case for over 30 years) then refuse point blank to give me even a vague estimate of what my pension may be worth if I retire early ?? How can I possibly know if I can afford to leave the profession? Do I have to simply cross my fingers and hope for the best? My private pension gives me an annual statement with all the alternatives laid out clearly. What is wrong with TP?

Disgusting service from Teachers’ Pensions

I contacted them via phone from Australia as I was unable to sign in with my email or password
I found the whole experience very stressful and the security questions got more and more ridiculous
Seriously, asking me what date did I last get paid? And how much? when I emigrated to Australia in 1982!!
I explained several times that I was 75 and had no record of the historic records she wanted
I could answer the earlier questions but not some of the ridiculous questions further on
I found the operator hard and uncooperative with no empathy for the person she was talking to - reading from a prepared script she could not deviate from!!
My husband was listening in and he was appalled at the attitude of the person I was talking to
At the end of the conversation when I asked what I could do to resolve the situation was told my only option was to write to you from Australia!
Why on earth do they not have an email contact?
Really disgusting with Teachers’ Pensions!
They need to lift their game!

My pension is lost

I have never experienced such poor and unprofessional service. My pension appears to be lost, and for the past six months, I have been trying to understand what has happened. Each time I call, I am told that someone will get in touch, yet no one ever does. I have raised two formal complaints, and still no one has taken the time to explain what is happening.

Abominably dysfunctional and dreadfully awful systems. Shameful.

Disturbingly inefficient and disorganised, it seems. Virtually impossible to gain access to their dreadful systems. Have had the same problems with these people every single year when needing to sort out my tax returns. I would be surprised if no-one had not either become seriously ill or even taken their own lives when trying desperately to negotiate these abominably dysfunctional systems. A shameful and disgraceful set-up.

Unable to access my account

Unable to access my account. Apparently my email address is no longer compatible though it hasn’t changed.Apparently this has been going on for over 2 years and they haven’t resolved. On line communication is a waste of time and after sending you round the houses they tell you to ring. I did so and at last seemed to be getting somewhere. However after answering a series of questions I was told that one of my answers didn’t tally though I know without a doubt they were all correct. When I asked which answer was wrong I was told that they weren’t allowed to say! I was told to write a letter to them and what information
to include. That was fortnight ago and no response. Appalling service.

My partner

My partner, who sadly passed away at 39, had a Teachers' Pension. We weren't married. The form says to provide two forms of evidence that we were financially co-dependent. To be helpful, I provided five: co-owned deeds to the house (2018), my daughter's birth certificate with me as the father (2019), a council tax bill, a joint bank statement, and a utility bill. Was this enough? No, it was not. They need another form of evidence that shows we have been co-dependent for more than two years. Surely a child and joint ownership of a house for seven years should be sufficient. Having to further prove our relationship while my daughter and I are going through the worst time of our lives is quite frankly disgusting. You should be ashamed.

Absolutely shocking

Absolutely shocking. I've been trying to transfer my funds from them with one of the top pensions/ISA company in the country who are now pretty distraught. No response to anything that is sent. Trying a send a message to them is a walk on the dark side. I have no idea as to if it went through. I want out, have done for a while, and as for confidence? Zero.

Update - I have spoken to a human who sent me the two messages that they apparently 'tried' to send me previously, (given that there was a 'problem' in that the message system wasn't working, ie I wasn't receiving anything). They have asked a pile of questions, the answers to which are in the document sent.

Oh and whilst I'm here - I have never, ever heard of a company whose 'chat' can only be used when you're logged out! Huh?

Failure of New passwords and PINs to survive one use

I have spent over 4 hours over 2 days, having contact the Teachers pension phone line at least 5 times attempting to Log in. Each time I created a new password and PIN and have been able to use it once and then the system indicated that they did not match.
I could not use my PC Laptop operating Microsoft as it could not deal with requirement to copy the necessary URL to gain a new Password/PIN and just took me back to the TP Log in Page. Access to my pension is essential and now the only access is online then it is appalling that the system fails at he first point off loggingin

Three months after bereavement, still no action

Three months after my wife's death I am unable to find out when this organisation will complete its work. Apart from passing the details to "another department" they can tell me nothing. Every other organisation, including government departments, banks, building societies, etc., has been helpful and efficient, leaving no outstanding issues. What a pathetic shambles.

Obviously I would give no stars if I…

Obviously I would give no stars if I could as there is nothing at all to commend this company.
I have wasted hours of my life on hold waiting to speak to someone who can never help me.
I have raised a complaint which has never been addressed.
I have no pension!!
It is absolutely disgusting that this company is withholding what is mine and I have no money.

I tried to change my bank account…

I tried to change my bank account details online. The page doesn't work and hasn't now for 2 months to my knowledge. I was told to write in with the details. I did so and then received a letter by return asking for information that I did actually send them. Somewhat astonished I phoned in and was told that even that letter (which contained their own change bank pro forma) didn't request all the necessary information and the person on the phone told me extra details I needed to provide. If I hadn't phoned in I'm guessing I would have received another letter telling me I was not providing all the information. I have now sent this off but do not expect much. This experience follows on the back of a previous request for specific information via the contact page online for which I never heard back. I did however receive an email apologising for them not having responded and stating they were aware of this. The email did not address my query and...guess what, I'm still waiting for a response to it more than 6 months later. I'm guessing it will never come. Terrible.

The teachers pension website is frankly…

The teachers pension website is frankly simply not fit for purpose. I’ve been registered with them for a decade or longer. I’ve attempted on multiple occasions to log in & have managed twice. The last time after spending 50 minutes attempting to login & contacting customer support I was finally able to login. The following day I attempted to login again to once again find that the one time passcode they send would once again not work. This issue has been something that teachers pensions have been aware of for many years yet seam unable or unwilling to resolve, having spent many hours attempting to login I’ve frankly just given up. What should have been a system which helped me to plan for my retirement has actually become something that is an obstacle, I don’t even get an annual pension statement sent to me now as apparently I can logon & check it online, what a joke☹️
