With a lens of £80 I made lots of great shots along the past years
Hi , I live in the US. this review concerns the tamron 18-400 mm. I'm not sure if tamron UK is affiliated with tamron USA. at any rate, i want people to know that tamron usa is not an honorable entity.
I owned this lens. I won it in a photography contest. I was overjoyed to get a 700 dollar lens for free. I used it perhaps 10 times in the first 3 months, it had satisfactory performance. After 3 months, the lens became stiff in the mid range of extension 150-250 mm. I just lived with it, since i got it for free. Over the next 12 months, it became more and more stiff, and I continued to live with this condition. About 3 months ago, it froze completely and became unusable. I had been told that tamron has a 6 year warranty, so i checked into it. They OK'd the return, so i boxed it up nicely, then sent it via FedEx, with insurance for 1000 dollars. A few days later, i received an email from Tamron, saying that repairs would be 400 dollars. I want to point out that this lens had absolutely no physical damage: no dents, no scratches, no broken glass, in other words, on the exterior, it appeared as brand new. I have photos to prove it. Tamron tried to tell me that the lens was physically damaged, so they would not honor the warranty, as it was my fault. They had no response when I asked, why, if I damaged it, did this condition progress in a gradual fashion over the period of one year?? They told me they have the finest warranty in the photography professional business, 6 years. I told them that their very fine warranty is worthless if they don't honor it. So, to make a long story short: TAMRON DOES NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY, at least in my case. I have told them that I will report this story to everyone in my photography community.
