Billing continued after I terminated the representation
Do your research before hiring Brendan Sweeney of Sweeney Law, P.A. in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
I retained Brendan A. Sweeney at a significantly higher hourly rate than my prior lawyer. I was told his team was actively researching the consumer protection issues I had already documented for the firm. His own invoices show the first billed work on that amended complaint came more than three months after retention.
Communication was a recurring problem. In December 2024, I forwarded court filings to him myself and asked him to advise; it took two weeks and a second follow-up to get a response, which opened with a written apology for the delay. It was not the last such apology.
I ended the representation in May 2025, which the firm acknowledged in writing. I had paid the firm $20,000. The firm's invoices, attached to its sworn proof of claim in my bankruptcy case (public record, S.D. Fla. Case No. 25-25145-EPK), reflect amounts billed after the representation ended.
I would encourage anyone considering this firm to review the public docket and the firm's own billing records and reach their own conclusions.
