Third World Medicine Practice

Last June (over a year ago), my doctor scheduled me for a colonoscopy with Borland Groover at Ascension St. Vincent’s. I remembered having to struggle just to make the appointment.

Their automated system was counter intuitive, and when I finally reached a live person, he was dismissive and unhelpful.

Their website didn’t make things any easier either — you can’t even create an account until someone in their office manually approves it, leaving you locked out of their system entirely.

Yesterday was the scheduled procedure. I arrived around 2:15, and even though I had already checked in online, they handed me a clipboard and had me repeat all the same pointless questions. By 2:43, no one had come to get me, so I informed the receptionist that if no one appeared soon, I would be leaving. I should not have to wait endlessly for a scheduled appointment. The entire experience just highlights how flawed and disorganized their process is.

If your doctor recommends Borland Groover for gastroenterology care, I strongly suggest asking for a different specialist. You will be disappointed. They simply do not have their operation together in any area. When a clinic can’t even manage basic appointment scheduling, it’s a clear sign of how far off track they are with the rest of the care they provide.

If I could give negative stars I would

If I could give negative stars I would. The terrible, rude woman or whatever was at the check in should not be dealing with the public.. I asked for a supervisor, never got one. I went to the information desk and waited and waited and waited and waited over 20 minutes. I finally picked up their phone and dialed zero. The operator didn't help me either. So I'll never go back there for anything, nothing.

St. Vincent must have left the building! This was like the song Hotel California “you can check in but you can never leave.

I stated my name to the admissions clerk and he replied “I don’t know her.” My name was listed on the admissions sheet.
Three different anesthesiologists came to my room. The first was great, the last one asked me to confirm my date of birth. I stated the wrong birth year on purpose bc I knew he was goofy. His reply was that’s right.
There was no means to call for the nurse other than standing outside the door to holler down the hall. There must have been a continuous party outside my door bc it was so loud with lots of very loud laughter.
The nurses were inept and lazy. My IV was left wide open and I had two liters of IV fluid. I couldn’t get a nurse so I slowed down the drip myself. The EKG tech is the only person that noticed my name was spelled incorrectly. He immediately went to have it changed. He was most professional.
The supervisor came to apologize for the many things that went wrong. I was a first case arriving at 0630 for the 10 minute procedure. I was discharged at 1530. Dr. Massive was great. I would have fired the nurse that discharged me. She was incompetent. She forgot to put a nun’s cap in the commode to measure the urine output. When she came back to the room, she put peppermint oil in the nun’s cap to stop the urethral spasms. There’s no scientific evidence for that and it’s not a FDA approved alternative medicine. When she finally came back to the room after listening to her laughing at the nurses desk and calling down the hall. Instead of reading the measuring marks on the nun’s cap she asked me how much it was. She continued to tell me post op instructions for a general anesthesia procedure. She kept correcting herself but always continued with instructions for a general anesthesia patient instead of a MAC. All she had to do was read the discharge instructions rather than going to ask someone what the answers were to my questions. She was ripping off the IV dressing and I said that would not hurt if she’d use an alcohol prep pad. Her reaction was to continue ripping it off. There’s no evidence she cared and her curt reply was unnecessary. She needed remedial training in client service and bedside manners.
