Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 423 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people expressed significant dissatisfaction with the customer service, describing it as unhelpful, automated, and difficult to reach a real person. Reviewers frequently encountered issues with the refund process, citing rigid policies and a refusal to issue refunds even for unplayable games or gift purchases that didn't work as expected. The website was also a source of frustration, with users reporting problems with functionality and issues with information provided. Some people were dissatisfied with product-related issues, such as games not working or being unplayable, and difficulties with game downloads. Conversely, a small portion of people were satisfied with the platform, praising its extensive game library, frequent sales, and community features. These customers also highlighted good security and, in some cases, positive experiences with customer support regarding refunds or technical solutions.

Scam 14 Day Refund Policy

Appalling service.
Tried a game out for 5hrs over 2days on the basis there was a 14day refund period if dissatisfied. When I tried claiming a refund they declined and stated I was suspected of;

"abusing our refund policy or violating our terms of service, we may decline requests for refunds"

Needless to say I cancelled and will never use them again.

Avoid for call of duty, servers disconnect

I mainly play call of duty and I switched to steam for bo7, coming from battle.net. What a bad call. I constantly have issues that my game loses connection to steam services, they regularly reboot their services and it kicks players out (especially monday/tuesday). This has caused me to get multiple bans and lost ranked points. This happened to me 12 times now and I am sick of it. The support option says "we don't provide support for this game".

FIX YOUR BUGGGY SERVICES, LEARN WHAT A LOADBALANCER AND ZERO-DOWNTIME DEPLOYS ARE and provide actually value to your customers instead of annoyment.

I will go back to battle.net which did not have any of these problems.

Steam doesnt care about its customers

After steam wouldnt give me a return on Ashes of Creation, I will never buy another pre-order on their website.

It is Steams job to protect their consumers and they should have every right to take the money from ashes "devs" and give it back to the people they "serve".

But that doesnt happen with steam because they are part of the scam.

they give me free customization of my games when devs allow it, have some cool people at customer service, AND they gave me 24gb when freeing space for a 9gb game. I freaking love steam (little note: i have a feeling most of these people leaving low reviews dont know how this stuff even works or that some games arent made by steam and isnt steams fault for the devs optimization)

Great support team

Great support team! I had my account stolen and I contacted Steam support and got my account back within 24 hours. Also the steam sales are unbeatable. 90% off on a lot of games.

The main problem is no UK site

The main problem is no UK site, so nothing you can do when the law is on your side. Whilst for DRM they are represented by Rivacy, they aren't liable. Games just don't work - they push responsibility to developer for refund, who have no idea who paid what and also duck, also often foreign. Computers are complex as are games, so a sigificant gamble as many won't work so end up expensive junk. I havea bg library, but no more, Steam can for free, no mre games being bought!

Can't access the games I paid for

I opened tickets HT-2FQ9-CY9F-355R and HT-VJ6D-N8HJ-BRCP, and I still can’t access the games I paid Steam/Valve for. I changed my email address, and Steam Support will not allow me to update the email on my account unless I can produce a CD key that I no longer have.
I don’t know whether they're so stupid they’re hoping I’ll repurchase games I already paid for, or if they’re just too lazy to use an alternate method to verify my identity. Either way, I’m done with Steam/Valve.
Is Microsoft still affiliated with them? If so, I’m doubly disappointed.

There is no service

There is no service. There is no help. There is only an automated "NO". Theres no way to contact them about illegal contracts on there platform. Theres no way to make them follow the laws they signed up for by selling in my country. The community is a hotbed for hate and division aswell.

I used Steam for years gaming on a PC…

I used Steam for years gaming on a PC until the hardware got too expensive. I moved to a console for a few years until I felt that was also getting expensive. I tried to move back to Steam when I read that more games supported the Mac OS platform. Having bought a M4 Mac I thought maybe I could game finally on a Mac. But no, while many games say they run on a Mac. Many don't fully support Apple silicon. Instead relying on Rosetta 2 or Crossover to run. In the end I gave up and even though some of this isn't Steam's fault, their lack of properly describing compatibility is their responsibility. I ended up asking for refunds on a few games I tried because they either ran poorly or not at all. Something if I knew was issues up front I never would have wasted time installing the games. I also noticed some games were a more expensive on Steam then downloaded from other sources. I guess that's the side effect of being in an ecosystem that has little competition.

I was forced to download Steam to log…

I was forced to download Steam to log into S&box which is the gaming platform I wanted to try. It will not let you sign in, does not give you a chance to create a password, does not send the link to reset, does not have help that responds to requests. What a joke. As Roblox goes down, you would think other platforms would be attentive, but nope.

My account was hacked into by someone…

My account was hacked into by someone from Russia. They used my Credit Card that was connected to the Steam App and spent $50 to fill Steam Wallet. They then bought and gifted games with it.

I did not authorize any of this, yet I am still punished for it. I cannot get the funds back to Steam Wallet because the purchases were gifted. I cannot refund the Steam Wallet Refill because of idiotic anti-user choices.

They support hackers and hijackers, yet they throw users under the bus. They should be supportive of their users as they are the ones that makes Valve money through Steam. They should stop supporting hackers because if the right person gets put in the situation I was, they would have the know-how and resources to file a lawsuit.

They don't care about you!

They don't care about you. I would have to agree with some that it felt like I was just getting auto responses without any feeling behind them. Zero help with my issue, ignored my concerns and closed my ticket instantly. One of the responses was a suggestion at refunding the game, but then they proceeded to say, oh to bad, you've over played. To top it off, they also said to add another version of the game to my wish list and buy it when it goes on sale. Who wants to buy 2 different copies of any game? Absolutey Wild.
