Paid $20 shipping, then got a $30 customs invoice

I ordered from SteakStones and paid $20 shipping at checkout. The website advertised “Local US Delivery” and there was no mention anywhere during checkout that customs duties or import fees would be charged afterward.

After delivery, FedEx invoiced me an additional $30.01 for customs duty and fees. I paid FedEx to avoid collections but asked SteakStones for reimbursement. After one initial response, they have not replied to my multiple follow-up emails.

This experience has been disappointing due to lack of fee disclosure and no customer service response.
