Over priced & Under served

Based on convenience, I went to Speedy Auto Service 725 Burnhamthorpe Road W, Mississauga, a few times to ready my older model ‘winter beater’ for the winter. Their suggested additional services or upselling was always high but I mostly kept with basic services. After they confirmed their ability to service an oil leak in another vehicle which is a higher-end older model, I was skeptical, but decided to trust what I thought to be honest ‘sales people’ in repairing my second vehicle.

In summary, they upsold me to the tune of thousands of dollars & failed to repair the leak. Based on my need to take my vehicle elsewhere to have the very same leak repaired, an independent external evaluation of the work performed and billed by Speedy, revealed among other negatives:
-an excessive overlap in labour based on work performed
-they charged dealership rates (and did it all with the salesperson smile!)

I initially took my vehicle to Speedy with evidence of a very small oil leak/spill. I was told the car was ready after two weeks and was happy to pick it up. I was unable to leave the parking lot as there was an extreme metal scraping & rattling sound when I attempted to drive home. This was obviously a massive fail. One week later I returned to pick up for the second time, having to pay thousands more, which I very reluctantly agreed to! I drove the car home and parked it for the day. The next day, the oil leak was massive – worse than when I first brought it to Speedy. I dropped the car off again. It may be difficult to believe but there was yet another drop-off, making it THREE, as the leak remained.

In summary, Speedy had my vehicle for three to four weeks, charged me THOUSANDS, and did not repair the oil leak. They actually made everything worse – all with a smile! The total cost, time-line and my disappointment are so extreme, I have no words. Very ‘nice’ people in terms of their approachability & communication but definitely sales people who appear to focus on their financial cash grab primarily. They took advantage of my trust and lack of knowledge.

When I addressed my concern with Speedy, their justification was ‘it’s hard to locate and fix an oil leak.’ They invited me to bring the vehicle in again with the stipulation that I would need to ‘pay for labour’ although mechanical parts had a lifetime warranty. This would not be in my best interest so I’ll stick with my reliable and honest mechanic. There is no trust, and based on this experience, it does not appear that Speedy feels any duty to operate honestly and in good faith.

I take no pleasure in sharing my negative experience. I generally like to share good news only, as I believe in lifting people up. I believe the public needs to be aware of my actual negative and very real experience!

I visited the Dundas/Erinmills location…

I visited the Dundas/Erinmills location today. I ran into your customer service Aziz representative. I explained my problem, a recurring issue and he offered to go for a test drive, and validated my concerns. He immediately put my car on the hoast, realized what was needed to fix the problem , and booked me in for repairs for the next day. I was very pleased with the service and feel alot better knowing that issue will be terminated finally! Aziz was very helpful, welcoming and made me feel like family and assured me I was in good hands going further. It is well appreciated you have a representative as such experience located at this shop , and I believe he travels to other places to make sure your service is up to par with the name Speedy! Thank you Aziz!

Terrible business practice - AVOID

AVOID

Speedy, you charge customers for a service that is not required and not delivered. After being informed of your mistake, you refused to make it right.

Terrible business practice.

For those interested on what Speedy had to say, here's their response.

"After discussing with the shop in regards to this situation, I was informed that even if the model of the vehicle isn’t correctly entered on the bill when it is printed out, you can rest assured that the technician who performed the oil change saw your vehicle with his own eyes and was able to properly gauge the levels so there is no worry to be have about the quantity being “over” or “under”. Additionally, I have also asked a corporate advisor if the price that had been charged for the service was fair and they agreed that it was and that there were no foul play in this at all."

Here's what happened
I went for an oil change and I was charged for 5.1L when my car takes 4.7L because they made an error with the car model. The oil change package includes 5L.
