Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 113 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complain about shocking price hikes, continuous billing increases, and severe disruptions to their daily water supply without receiving adequate support or reliable information. Reviewers also feel deeply frustrated by poor communication, long waiting times, and a complete lack of management accountability regarding ongoing infrastructure failures. However, some customers also noted that specific staff members provided polite, helpful, and exceptionally professional assistance during their phone calls. A few reviewers additionally experienced efficient handling of account inquiries, successful billing adjustments, and quick resolutions provided by supportive employees. People appreciated these rare instances of excellent customer service when dealing with the company.

5 years ago I paid £211 for the year

5 years ago I paid £211 for the year in water bill. You can see on google reviews where south east water confirms that. Today I’ve just had my water bill for the last 6 months. Today I get the bill for £558 for that 6 months only. How the actual f can you justify that? My water consumption hasn’t changed over the years. Again we see a private enterprise squeezing ever drop from the consumer. It’s unlawful what they are charging & this shower of a government does nothing to regulate it. Absolutely disgusting company. With a bill increase of 40%

How can they continue

How can they continue. How is a company allowed to increase your direct debit without asking and then when you try and change it to an amount you can afford ,more than your currently paying but less than they want your not allowed its criminal!
Especially when on maternity pay!
I also don't see the need for the raise in the first place when we have had to cut are usage again and again due to constant hose pipe bans .
Sadly you are stuck with this company but I do think they need investigating .
Edit Spoke to a lovely lady sadly now if you don't agree with the direct debit amount that they automatically change for you will have to contact them ! Also she advised both waste and drinking water have a combined 60 percent price increase this year ( yes i did nearly pass out!) All that for leaks all over sussex and a constant hose pipe ban when you get a day of hot weather . Just wow
I do wonder how much profit they will announce soon and of course how much of a bonus the main people will receive with such an increase .

Harassing me

These have been hounding me and harassing me for over eight years for money that I don't even owe them, I lived at an address in Bracknell for a little over a year and they claim I owe £1600 obviously because someone hasn't been honest with them, I can prove how long I lived there for and if this goes to court I will wipe the floor with them so I suggest south east water you leave me alone

Stalling refund due! Want to send me a cheque to refund me!!!

Moved house and told South East Water. There was a credit on my account. Two months down the line, they sent me a statement and by then I’d stopped the DD. They first asked me to let me know bank account details for a refund and once provided, then asked for an address to pay me by cheque!! (they know I moved to Australia). Updated to say I called them and a very helpful person arranged to pay my refund directly into my account. This has now been paid. Because of him, I’m adding an extra star - but please, stop sending refunds by cheque - you wouldn’t prefer it if everyone settled their bills by cheque…

Vulnerable customer knowingly abandoned…

Vulnerable customer knowingly abandoned by South East Water

Mains water leaks happen, and repairs are never instantaneous. Except for vulnerable persons the unexpected lack of water can be devastating.

Water pressure was lost just after lunch and as a vulnerable person, South East Water was contacted at 15.30hrs (who then chose not to answer the telephone for eight minutes).

Acknowledging that this customer was already registered as vulnerable, and that their only drinking water available was half-a-kettle full the polite call handler promised a prompt call back. That call back never happened and this customer was left without drinking water through to 21.30hrs.

By the time it was clear this vulnerable customer had been abandoned by South East Water their call centre had closed.

This reckless abandonment is wholly unacceptable and South East Water should hang their heads in shame.

However, it does not end there for during the call it became apparent that South East Water had schemes to assist disabled customers. So they were asked to send out details of these in large typeface (visually impaired).

South East Water did reply in a small typeface with one line in their letter stating the had schemes to assist disabled customers......

Ableism is never acceptable.

The people who work for the company try to be so helpful.

Like many people whose reviews I have read, my water bills were massively increasing even though I was using less water. Eventually it turned out to be a small water leak which I have had to pay to be repaired.

However, I want to give credit to the people who work with the company. Within the parameters of what they are allowed to do and the compensation they are able to give, the staff couldn't be more attentive or more helpful. From the people on the helplines, the people giving advice, the people assessing the leak and the people repairing it, I have nothing but praise. Yes it has been expensive. Yes, I think the company priorities profits over efficiency. The people they employ though are doing the absolute best they can.

Absolute shower my 86 year old mum had…

Absolute shower my 86 year old mum had a water leak at her property. Wasn’t living in the property for 5 months of the bull period and received a £365 bill from SE water. The post office refused to take her cheque to pay her bill as it is wrong. 2 customer service people later and no resolution. Oh they fixed the leak but have no notification at customer services that they did. No record of my complaints as received a final notice email demanding payment and saying no notification of disputes 🤬😡

Just had an amended bill through and it…

Just had an amended bill through and it has tripled, even though our usage is down during to us all being out of the house all day and we are incredibly lower in usage in comparison to neighbours. Its absolutely VILE that these companies pay their bosses big bonuses, do nothing to invest into their own company and now forced to, they are passing on the bill to their consumers. Its disgusting. The big bosses need to pay back their bonuses and use that money to fix the issues. Not ours!!

Inconsiderate and unresponsive

Reported leak impacting multiple properties 3 months ago. 5 teams sent out, 4 requiring traffic management. No advance notice despite it being a busy road. Access blocked for over a week with workers were on site for 1.5 days.

Still not sorted.

Inflated monthly direct debit increase

Inflated monthly direct debit increase. south east water suggested an increase in water usage was to blame. As far as we aware this isn’t the case. Questions about the increase weren’t satisfactory, they just blamed Ofwat who are also doubtful about their inability to keep their house in order. I just hope the CEO of South east water is enjoying his multi thousand pound bonus whilst paying his staff a pittance to deal with customer complaints.

Water shut off for 6 days, leaks everywhere, rising bills, sewage into the sea, hosepipe bans, terrible customer service and constant lies to customers, nuf said.

Water and sewerage

From water and sewerage, rail travel to energy, healthcare to postal services, Buses, Council services that shareholder value has eclipsed service quality. There’s a poignant irony when institutions once rooted in public duty start to treat that duty as optional.
