They took a £3,000 deposit in case of damage, we returned the car and it was confirmed and signed off that there was no damage and it has now been 27 days and we have chased the company and still not had our money back!!!! If it was the other way round they would have took the money immediately, but when it’s them owing the customer their money back they don’t care. Absolutely terrible.
Helpful people in the shops, not so great at headoffice.
They will automatically pay any PCN uou receive without telling you and then add "admin fees". Had one for tfl which was TFL'S fault and i emailed sixt straight away advising them not to pay so I challenge. They decided to pay and charge me extra. Been over a week and no response from sixt.
Any fines you receive, they will add £30-40 extra.
Tbf the staff at the shop were great and provided me with an alternative car but unfortunately these penalty charges left a sour taste.

Sixt provided an overall professional and efficient rental experience. The process was smooth, transparent, and well-organised.
I want to specifically commend Larah at the Glasgow branch for her outstanding service. She was friendly, approachable, and handled everything efficiently. Great customer care.
Highly recommended.
Never Again Sixt
Never Again Sixt – Prepaid Booking Turned into a £450 Insurance Trap at Manchester Airport (Diamond Member)
Posted by: SeanB (Diamond Card holder for years)
Just had one of the worst car rental experiences of my life with Sixt at Manchester Airport and I’m warning everyone: avoid them like the plague.
I booked and prepaid £600 weeks in advance for a rental (26 April – 15 May). Smooth online process, confirmed booking, no warnings about anything. As a long-standing Diamond Card member who’s rented with them many times without issue, I expected a straightforward pickup.
Arrive at the counter. The guy looks at my booking and immediately demands an extra £450 for insurance. I show proof of my own comprehensive global rental car insurance — he doesn’t care. No mention of any credit check, background check, or “failed eligibility.” The car was apparently ready to go as soon as I paid the upsell. I refused on principle and walked away without the vehicle.
Then the gaslighting begins. Sixt’s responses over WhatsApp and email kept changing:
• First it was about the insurance.
• Then suddenly I “failed a third-party risk assessment.”
• Latest version: “negative credit check result.”
All with zero evidence and the classic line “we don’t have access to the details.” Clause 18 of their terms, apparently. Funny how these mysterious checks only kick in at pickup after you’ve prepaid and flown there — never flagged weeks earlier.
BVRLA reviewed it and basically shrugged: “They explained it via their terms, so tough luck. Here’s your refund (eventually).”
Bottom line: The advertised £600 “drive away” price is misleading nonsense. You’re booking blind, with the real cost and approval only decided at the counter when you’re tired and have no options. As a loyal Diamond customer this feels like a complete betrayal.
I will never rent from Sixt again — personally or for business — and I strongly recommend everyone else steers clear. There are plenty of better options (Enterprise, National, etc.) that don’t treat prepaid bookings like a lottery.
Has anyone else been hit with this at Manchester or elsewhere? Booking ref 9733153345 if Sixt wants to comment.
Sixt.com
Although this is Sixt UK, I use this portal to book car hire when travelling abroad. Most frequently at Malaga Airport. The collection is swift. The cars are always low mileage and in good condition. The drop off is seamless. I cannot fault the service I have received.
Consistently good
Ease of reserving the vehicle via the Sixt app. Pick up at Edinburgh Airport was efficient, vehicle was as expected ( make and model)
Upon returning the vehicle; the representative was friendly, checked the vehicle condition, explained my final invoice and sent me an email, all in under 3-4 minutes.
Overall another good experience at EdI airport, this is my 6th rental in the last 8 months and the process has been consistent. Will continue to use Sixt whenever I need a rental vehicle
Car provided at very short notice
SIXT provided a car at very short notice after another rental company pick-up failed at the airport. Car provided was identical to booked class (BMW 1 series), was near new and spotlessly clean on collection. Desk staff at pick-up were charming, proud of their island (Sardinia) and even provided tips on our touring itinerary!
Return at different location (for which no one-way drop off fee) was clearly sign-posted, was smooth, quick and staff helpful.
Charging us for a fuel refill
We had a really great experience with Sixt at Charles de Gaulle airport until we retuned and about a week later received a refilling bill of £90. We returned the car at the fuel level they give it to us as at but on return they are claiming they gave the car to us with a full tank- they did not! I took a photo shortly after we collected the car showing there was 1/3 of a tank but they are still claiming they gave it to us full. This would mean we used 2/3 of a tank in an hour- this would not be possible! We can't seem to get any sort of refund from them.
Worst experience -very poor communications.
The first experience was, after booked online I tried to pick the car one day in advance but unfortunately the agent tried to charged doubled the price. The most disadvantage we cannot call the company and also they not communicate e mail. All the e mail we receiving as no reply. Customers has no choice to contact company. After i returned the car they deducted more money without inform and a valid reasons. Also they have Whats-app chat but no one message responsible way. Looks like they rip money from customers. I have seen many reviews similar to my situation. This is genuine experience, I am still writing them to clarify those deductions and unreasonable deductions as well.
Great Sixt service at Bastia airport
Great Sixt service at Bastia airport. The car was an EV - which I hadn’t expected - but I really enjoyed driving it through the winding mountain roads of Corsica. We took up the offer of the unlimited charging card which cost €57 and then no further charges when we charged the car’s batteries. There were sufficient chargers installed around the island. No problems experienced and a great service at a good price.
Greattttt
Great service always try their best to sort the best car available for you
Use SiXT all the time in the UK and now France
Use SiXT all the time in the UK and the customer service has been excellent, tried them in France recently for a 6 day car hire from Paris Beauvais airport, again excellent service at pickup and return and both Cindi and Nathan’s English language skills were brilliant throughout !
Italian driving trip
The office and cars were in a very Convenient location ( Bari in Italy ) the quality of cars was excellent and the upgrade options ( I upgraded ) explained clearly at the desk / quality of service from the employees I dealt with and as very good particularly on check in where the chap also took the time to step away from his desk to show you exactly where collection was rather than doing the usual “ walk down there and take a left etc “ it was relatively expensive with the options I chose but worth it when the whole experience was taken into account - will certainly use sixt the next time I travel abroad
RIP off high pressure sales tactics to…
RIP off high pressure sales tactics to make you buy unnecessary insurance cover
Avoid at all costs!!!
Rented a car from Sixt at Geneva. At return they refused to inspect the car and have fabricated a claim against us for damage that wasn't there when we dropped the car off. They are refusing to accept that they didn't follow process and can't prove we caused damage (we didn't) and are threatening debt collectors. It's the usual 10cm scratch down to the primer claim that a quick Google tells you is very common for this company. Absolute scam, avoid them!!!
second time using sixt for car hire
second time using sixt for car hire - no issues at all, would highly recommend. yes slightly more than other companies but more than happy to pay that for the quality of service.
Sen was really great and helpful
Sen was really great and helpful. Was able to give an upgrade when my booked car was unavailable due to damage caused by previous driver.
Excellent service all round.
Excellent service from an ultra quick pick up to a no nonsense hand back.
Their new system of quick key pick up is very good indeed.
Was given a better car than specified which was also great.
I genuinely wanted SIXT+ to work
I genuinely wanted SIXT+ to work, but the experience has been frustrating from start to finish.
After paying a substantial joining fee and monthly subscription, I encountered repeated administration issues, poor communication between departments, and a lack of ownership when things went wrong. Promised callbacks did not happen, information provided by different teams was often inconsistent, and I spent far too much time chasing updates myself.
The replacement vehicle provided was not comparable to the vehicle I had originally subscribed to and was not suitable for my needs. Despite raising concerns, I felt the focus was on process rather than resolving the customer’s problem.
The concept of car subscription is excellent, but execution and customer service need significant improvement. For a premium-priced service, I expected a far smoother and more customer-focused experience.
Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would struggle to recommend SIXT+.
Refused a car hire after running my…
Refused a car hire when at the Luton office to collect the car, after running my driving license and a credit check!
This should have been done before arriving to collect the car and done when the booking was being processed.
I only have sp30 convictions, and as I drive around 20,000 miles per annum I don’t have a squeaky clean license in terms of points.
It is not abundantly clear what the criteria is when you book and pay. They also refuse to tell you the reason for refusal to hire which is unacceptable.
It should be transparent before you even click the button to proceed that your number of points or a low credit score will result in refusal of a vehicle, despite already paying upfront and a deposit.
I lost a days work today worth £457 because I had no car and wasted money on Ubers to and from their site totalling £28.
To top it off I didn’t get a full refund and charged a cancellation fee! WTF!
Not impressed!!
