Like others I feel mislead and scammed…

Like others I feel mislead and scammed by this company. I have hired from Heathrow for over 10 years and by far this is the most expensive due to unclear and unexpected costs compared to competitors. As an example all other car hire companies I have used in the past includes a basic insurance with large excess. SIXT does not and therefore it ends up much more expensive which you find out on the day! It's now too late to get a good price from another company. You also have a Premium Location Fee which is percentage based so by adding the basic insurance and buying petrol you pay 21% on top of these extras! Unbelievable and again it's not highlighted to you. I only realised studying the details later. Lesson learnt and I will never use this company again anywhere.

Keep well away

Keep well away

Have used this company for several years. Not sure whats happened but this time although pre booked on line and paid for we still had to queue and wait for an employee to give us the keys after they tried in vain to upgrade us doubling the agreement cost. This is something you do not want after a 20hr flight. Everything on line even in the office
Staff asked me to ammend our hire on line but we have no internet then we have to use sixts internet which kept dropping out absolutly crap service in 2026
Staff could not see any info discussed when you book car. Tried to extend the car for another three weeks only offered 2 days extra as nothing availiable.
Went to another company welcomed with open arms spent another 3k. Spent Poor service on sixt part will not be back unless it changes back to how it was.

Simply the best car rental company

Simply the best car rental company, with outstanding, modern, and impeccably clean vehicles. I always rent from their Speke, Liverpool branch, where the customer service is exceptional. The team makes the entire rental process smooth and hassle-free. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and professional car rental experience

SIXT UK does not acknowledge website errors and upsells

SIXT is a terrible company. They are unclear about their young driver fees on their websites (for example, a page on their website says driver fees are only charged for under 23 in Great Britain which is incorrect). The counter tried to upsell us on so many things, including the car type, saying smaller cars were unsuitable for the Highlands even though we saw plenty of them on our trip. They also did not mention young driver fees at all. Do not rent from SIXT Edinburgh, or SIXT in general, as they will not acknowledge their information is incorrect online either in follow-ups.

Best of the bunch

Thank you, Niamh!

I’ve had many flawless rentals with Sixt in the past, but my experience this time around was highly mixed. The main reason I am writing this review is to give massive praise to Niamh from the Tyre department, who turned a distressing and dangerous situation into one where I felt completely supported.

I picked up my car from the London Marylebone branch on Sunday 21/06. While a windscreen chip and rim scratches were already noted on the report, it wasn't until I parked at my first destination (just 4 miles away) that I noticed a huge chunk of rubber missing from the front passenger tyre. I immediately sent a photo to a mechanic friend, who warned me that driving on it at high speeds would be incredibly dangerous. This was a major safety issue, as I was about to start a 2.5-hour motorway journey.

Frankly, it is deeply concerning that the car was released in this condition; it felt negligent on the garage’s part to miss such a critical safety hazard during their checks.

When I contacted Sixt, I was put through to Niamh in the Tyre department. She was incredibly patient, pragmatic, and supportive. After speaking with her manager, she advised that because of the existing rim damage, a simple tyre change wasn't the best route, but instead I should return to the garage for a vehicle exchange.
When I got back to the branch, the colleague on duty was initially quite hesitant to issue an exchange. Without Niamh’s clear advice giving me the confidence to stand my ground, I might not have had the courage to insist on a replacement. However, I do want to credit the garage colleague: once she realised how genuinely distressed I was, her demeanour completely changed. She became highly understanding, helpful, and ultimately sorted out the exchange car, which I was very grateful for.

While the initial vehicle oversight was unacceptable, Niamh is an absolute asset to Sixt and completely saved the day. Thank you, Niamh! If there is a customer service representative who looks at these reviews, I would really appreciate if you could reach out to me as I would love to send Niamh a small token of my appreciation.

Excellent company

Friendly, efficient service staff. Good communication via e mail of the process, directions and post code of the company in Eginburgh. Car was in good clean condition, clear instructions about added charges if fuel not replaced. Took out added insurance so no financial penalty if car got damaged. Overall a good experience would defo usd SIXT agsin

Communication was excellent although…

Communication was excellent although they tried to push extras at collection point they weren't too overboard and accepted with good grace when I said no. The staff were lovely both at collection and drop off. The only annoying thing is their admin charge for processing tolls. I know you can buy their add on but I knew I was only going to use the toll road twice but they charge 15 dollars for each charge making it over 30 dollars for a 2.22 toll fee.

Refuse to refund my deposit unless I…

Refuse to refund my deposit unless I give them a copy of my bank statement. Handed car back over 4 weeks ago and I have phoned many times about my refund and they say that it was released into my bank account but on checking with my bank no money has been received after more calls I now are told that it is on hold until they get a copy of my bank statement. So one tells me is been released other tells me it's on hold.

I recently rented a car from Sixt and had an excellent experience. Mr. Anas provided outstanding customer service from start to finish. He was professional, friendly, and very helpful throughout the process, ensuring everything was handled efficiently and clearly.

Thanks to Mr. Anas, the entire rental experience was smooth, hassle-free, and enjoyable. His attention to detail and willingness to assist made a real difference. The worst experience ever.

The worst experience ever.
I booked a car three months in advance, for a short trip from London to Cornwall. I checked in online and they tell me I’m good to go, I just need to collect my key. At the desk in Battersea though, I hand over my license and they tell me I’ve failed a soft credit check. No other reason. I try to understand this a bit more but they say they can’t tell me. Company policy. No way around it either.
They’d had three months to do this but decide to do it on the hour of collection. They list a few things it ‘could’ be. None if it helpful.
It was a Sunday so I couldn’t do much, but the next day, I call DVLA and a few credit report agencies. They all tell me there is nothing wrong with my account and there is no reason I should be failing. I also know I have a good credit score with Monzo. I also have an American Express.
As I’d already paid the accomodation in full, I lost all my money since I was cancelling after the acceptable notice period. I raise this issue with Sixt, but they only offer me a £10 voucher to use on my next booking. Not sure what I’m to do with £10…

False advertising on vehicle categories

Be very careful about renting with sixt. Although you rent a vehicle in the same ’category’ this does not mean the car has the same features. In the case where these features involve the amount of seats and luggage it can carry it is critical. We rented a car which was advertised as seven seats and three suitcases but they gave us one with seven seats and no suitcase carrying capacity so we ended up with bags on our knees. Shame on them!

Never use again!

After a positive experience collecting the hire car, I am deeply disappointed by the email I was sent regarding a stone chip on the bonnet.

I fully understand that I took out the extra insurance but as I only drove the car for 35 miles in total I am not sure how a stone chip on the bonnet could be my fault. Stone chips are part of everyday driving, particularly on such busy roads.

I am also disappointed at the extra charge for refuelling, in saying that I know I read and signed the agreement. I did not realise that the admin fee of £19.99 would be charged to replace the fuel I used which according to the return paperwork was £7.80 worth.

This is the first time I have ever hired a car from Sixt and after this experience I will never hire a car from Sixt again.

One of the worst customer experiences I have ever had.

I booked and paid for a rental car in advance and arrived at Sixt Victoria Station on time, only to find the office closed. After waiting around 20 minutes, an employee finally showed up while a queue of frustrated customers had already formed behind me.

What happened next was even worse. After making me go through the entire rental process and wasting even more of my time, I was told that they could not give me the vehicle because of alleged issues with my driving licence and my credit score.

This explanation was completely absurd. My driving licence has been clean since 2009, with no penalty points or driving offences, and I have an excellent credit score. To this day, I still have no idea what they were talking about.

If there were genuinely eligibility issues, why accept my booking in the first place? Why take my payment? Why make me travel to the branch, wait outside a closed office, stand in line, and complete the entire process before refusing to hand over the vehicle?

To make matters even worse, I was then told it would take up to 6 days to get my money back. So not only was I left without the car I had already paid for, but Sixt also gets to hold onto my money for nearly a week after failing to provide the service. What a joke.

The result was that I was left without a car, important plans had to be cancelled, and I was put in an embarrassing position because other people were depending on me. An entire day was ruined because of Sixt's incompetence, poor organisation, and complete lack of respect for its customers.

This was an absolutely disgraceful experience from start to finish. I will never use Sixt again and would strongly advise others to avoid this branch if they value their time, money, and peace of mind.
