This is the worst

This is the worst, truly horrible bank I situation I’ve ever dealt with. ENDLESS times on hold, complete chaos, nobody’s word means one single thing. I’ve been a Realtor for 35 years, and how this outfit treated my elderly client was nothing short of shocking. Anyone trying to do professional business with a trustworthy institution MUST go elsewhere. There’s no excuse for the endless phone holds, misdirections and utter rudeness of the officers. Put your money ANYWHERE else besides this totslly unsatisfactory bank. Dealing with SAFE has been a nightmare. Just check all their 1-star reviews; those ppl are being generous. STAY AWAY

Bad Customer Service

The phone customer support can be horrible. Today was a perfect example. Lilly was absolutely a lost cause. Wasted40 minutes on the phone with her and no resolution.... An attempt to talk to a supervisor was disaster!! And, drawing conclusions on her own leads to miscalculations of your account....Beware of her w your transactions. We deserve better than Lilly.

Did relay to Madison, a giggler, that SAFE needs to start paying attention the their reviews. They are getting rated very poorly. Madison thought that was a joke" we don't check our reviews". Well, maybe you need to.... If you represent SAFE and you are not doing well, then SAFE is not doing well for you. Poor telephone support for your consumers is not an ideal way to do business. And, as a SAFE representative, you are not providing ideal support to SAFE. Consumers deserve better.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. After reaching out via phone, leaving voicemails, and also sending emails to Taylor for a week, there was no return call or emails. Very unprofessional of her and also her superiors. If she was not going to be available, there is an automated email return message, or a superior could have returned at least one message. I've also had issues with the tellers. Since this bank is a shared branch to my actual bank and they aren't local, it has been nothing but problems since I've used them. You have to do better.

Where has the business sense gone?

I purchased a Cashier’s Check from a member branch (Golden One) in San Francisco, issued to my property management company. This was paid for using funds in my Safe CU account. About a week later, I was advised that the Cashier’s Check would not scan and therefore it was returned to me.
With this, I returned to Golden One to deposit the money back into my account. I had both the cashier’s check and my bank receipt for the check. Safe CU imposed a hold on the check! Mind you, initially they put a hold on the deposit which was a check from the state!! I am a state employee -- this is a payroll check, so why would there be a hold??
Anyway - back to my complaint. I called them immediately to clarify that this money was taken from my account, never deposited by the intended Payee and therefore was “live”. Meaning the money was still in my account and should be released immediately. Basically, they were holding my funds.
This bank is archaic and cannot think outside the box. They get in their own way using procedures over common sense.

Most unprofessional and careless…

Most unprofessional and careless banking and credit card institution I ever met. You literally can't get anything done right with them. Not even simple credit card rewards or travel notification!

Numerous things have gone wrong at SAFE…

Numerous things have gone wrong at SAFE Credit Union over the 20 plus years I've been stuck with them, starting with an ATM that checked my preferences, but right afterwards asked if I wanted to do the transaction in Spanish or English. They finally, after over 20 plus years, fixed that one.

Finally, another in a long list of problems occurred today, when the ATM, using its Artificial Stupidity (AS), declined a critical deposit. The receipt stated "YOUR CARD HAS BEEN REPORTED STOLEN" in all caps. I didn't report my card stolen. Worse, when I called the number on back of the card, they couldn't take the call because they were off for the weekend. Gotta luv bankers hours. I work 24/7, so should they.

Honestly, if I could move my money elsewhere, I would. I'm stuck due to my homelessness and the banking requirement that I have a residential address to open an account and prove it with a utility bill. The industry, regulated by the government, is seldom a help and almost always a hinderance. That's why I have always felt stuck at SAFE.

Been a member for a minute ...

My parents used to use the bank before it got bought-out/ renamed. It was called American River Health Pro Credit Union.

Since I have been of age to have a debit card --I believe I was in my college years (early 20s)-- the years have gone without incident. Additionally, in my 20s, I branched out to have my own separate accounts, a credit account as well. Over the years, I have changed jobs, petitioned to have my credit limit increased, flexed that spending limit, and there were no trailing charges on my large consumer debt as my other bank (Chase) had done to me (I am sure it was in the fine print and I am sure that I did not read it). I digress ...

In the past 2 years or so, I have been living and working abroad in Europe. I had a situation where I received something in the mail in Cali and the folks down at my Elk Grove bank location accepted my presence through a phone call whilst my mother physically went in for me to cash the check.

Just as well, I use SAFE online banking. My phone number has changed several times since moving and the sole number I have is my European number. In spite of that, and several instances of locking myself out as well as someone trying to access my account, SAFE allowed me to verify my identity without needing to use a phone number. Just prior to writing this review is when, in fact, this had happened to me.

Just before coming back to Spain this time, I had about 3 months worth of Summer and 4 jobs within that time frame. I had a desire to raise my credit limit. They were patient and took what direct deposits were in my account, gave me professional/ personal opinions on what I ought to request as an increase, and with a few days to spare before my travels abroad, they approved my increase.

The SAFE family in Sacramento has been nothing short of patient with me. I decided to bow out of Chase, for now, and stick with SAFE.

Currently, I have the debit account as well as multiple savings accounts as well as a Cash rewards card.

I plan to stay with SAFE throughout all its milestones.
I feel safe here.
