Website False Descriptor and Poor state of property
Completely False Descriptor on the website of the state of soft furnishings, and heating issue. We had yet to discover the hazard behind the TV Cabinet.
According to the owner, they are a Bed and Breakfast which in his world equates to the heating being turned off from 10.30 until 16.00.
Website states fully centrally heated rooms, there was no radiator at all in the en-suite shower room to complement the fact the heating is off during the day. My Wife suffers from a Kidney complaint and feels the cold worse than the majority of us. I only discovered the heating issue during my call to the owner on day of arrival, to check when we could arrive. The owner seemed to think that it was ok to render the whole accommodation without heating due to the cost of energy. We eventually reluctantly decided to take the room until I looked behind the Television cabinet. The wiring is unsafe and illegal in room one. Being an ex Fire Officer of 32 years, I can testify that wiring in this state can lead to serious fire risk.
Whilst clean to the scanning eye, the room had a musty odour. The blinds had no attachment cord at the base of the louvres and the mechanism stiff. So much so I decided not to move them in case they broke. On discovering the electrical issues and after 5 minutes in the room, with the absurd issue re heating, (Outside Temperature was + 6 at 13.15 and forecast for sub zero.) we decided to leave as no heating in these temperatures is unacceptable and asked for a refund. Surprisingly he refused.
Paid by credit card on 16th December 2022 which He said he had no record of. Unbelievably he stated on the phone he would need proof we had paid, it seems he had no record of our booking. So with the straw having well and truly broken the Camels back, we left.
The setting for this place is lovely, and with some badly needed investment could be superb. It would seem from previous reviews elsewhere on other review sites that the owner takes a lot of time maligning anyone that provides constructive feedback. No doubt our abusive retort from the owner will follow.
The website is full of inaccuracies which leave the unfortunate traveller at a distinct disadvantage when trying to make an informed decision as to whether they use this establishment or not. Another disturbing element of the website is the owners constant threat to deduct monies from credit cards for what would seem to be anything he thinks fits his definition of contraventions of policies. I am sure that to do this without the signed consent of the card owner is also illegal.
Read the policy statement carefully, look at the past reviews and especially the Owners disgusting insulting and abusive replies. Some replies to guests sound like they have been penned by a five year old. There are always two sides to a story, fortunately I have photographic evidence of what we found. I am also a firm believer in fairness. So if the owner wishes to do the right thing, and give us a refund of his own free will, I will take all of these accurate reviews down. If not I will go through my credit card company and exercise my right under section 75. I will also be writing to all authorities, local Authority, Fire and Rescue Service and Health and Safety Executive with my findings photographs and experience. The Owner can use his Ring Doorbell system for evidence to prove I was polite and courteous. I will get my money back either way. Over to you Owner Rolands Croft Guest house Pontefract.
