Regal Kitchens Warning: £79k Extension Disaster & The "Phoenix" Trap
In 2017, I paid Regal Kitchens £79,000 for a full kitchen extension. Eight years later, I have discovered that they installed the incorrect tiles on my roof, leading to catastrophic failure and massive damage to my internal walls and ceilings.
When I contacted the current owners, John Martin and Nicola Martin, to rectify this clear case of bad workmanship, I was told they have no liability. Why? Because while they still trade as "Regal Kitchens" at regalkitchens.co.uk, they closed the specific legal entity I contracted with (Regal Kitchens Billericay Ltd - 07684001) in 2020.
This is a classic "phoenix" tactic:
They take your money under one company name.
They perform substandard work.
They liquidate that company to wipe away their legal and warranty obligations.
The Reality of "Quality" at Regal Kitchens:
Beyond the roof, I have had to pay an additional £5,500 to have the entire roof re-tiled correctly. I also had to hire independent gas and electrical engineers to fix dangerous issues left behind by their team.
John and Nicola Martin were the directors then, and they are the directors now. They are happy to take the profits, but they refuse to take responsibility for the damage their workmanship has caused.
My Advice: Do not be fooled by the showroom or the brand name. If your project goes wrong, they may simply close the company and leave you with the bill.
