Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 174 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found the user experience to be extremely negative, citing issues with the app and website being outdated, buggy, and slow. Customers frequently mentioned that the product itself, particularly the reading materials, was boring and unengaging, leading to a decrease in their enjoyment of reading. The quality of the content was also a major concern, with many feeling that the questions were often irrelevant or misleading, and the system for tracking progress was flawed. However, some people did find the app to be enjoyable and helpful for improving their reading, comprehension, and vocabulary, with a few even recommending it highly.

If I could I would give this NEGATIVE stars. Reading Plus is a Bug Filled heckscape. They say it's primary goal is to "increase your reading speed" when in reality it's "decrease your reading speed".... See more

Terrible website (information below)

I am a student and I have to use this myself, it is very glitchy on the vocabulary task as it just sends everyone in my class to the part where if you got it wrong, which is quite unfair. The reading task is terrible, the only decent books Iv’e read are “vikings versus huns”, “the white cat” and “the tale of Sir Ivane” and even they had some boring parts. The combos are also quite harsh, if you get 78% or lower, you completely fail. Overall it is a terrible glitchy website with lots of inconveniences, if you are teacher, do NOT use this.

Useless, utterly useless.

It just seems a bit useless. Students shouldn’t really have to read at pre-determined pace, and realistically, shouldn’t really be forced to read 3 books for homework? I don’t know, personally it just doesn’t seem to help anything. I can read personally fine, and have been made at least 3% stupider following using this.

Takes all the joy out of reading

Reading plus is the most annoying tool I have ever seen. It literally forces students to read at an unnatural pace and blurs everything so you have to read at a pre-determined rate. The window doesn't make any allowances for punctuation, sentences or paragraphs. What is even worse is that my daughter's school insists she successfully completes 5 exercises a week. If she gets a "red" it doesn't count. She currently has a deficit of 9 exercises which will take over 2 hours to complete, and her Teacher keeps giving her consequences for not having completed them.

I like reading like its a normal book…

I like reading like its a normal book at any speed I like not with the txt turning grey or having everything blurred out and having only a small box to read from. And when It says how was you reading rate it doesn't let you say too slow

Reading Plus claims to improve… reading plus diss

Reading Plus claims to improve literacy, but in reality, it’s just an endurance test in boredom and frustration. Instead of making reading enjoyable, it turns it into a monotonous chore, sucking the life out of every passage. The stories? Either painfully dull or so random you wonder if they were generated by an AI that barely understands human interests. Who actually enjoys reading a dry three-page essay about the history of scissors or some obscure scientist no one cares about?

And the pacing system? A complete disaster. It forces you to read at a speed that makes zero sense—either so slow you feel like you’re in a coma, or so fast you’re skimming words without actually processing anything. Oh, and let’s not forget the eye-tracking box—one of the most infuriating features ever created. If your eyes so much as twitch outside the designated area, the program acts like you didn’t read anything at all. Congratulations, start over!

Then there are the comprehension questions, which feel like they were written by someone who didn’t read the passage themselves. Instead of testing actual understanding, they throw in trick questions or vague wording just to mess with you. And if you get too many wrong? Boom—you’re stuck in an endless cycle of repetitive, uninspired reading assignments, as if punishment somehow makes people better readers.

And let’s be real—the whole program is just busywork disguised as education. It doesn’t foster a love for reading. It doesn’t encourage curiosity. It doesn’t make you want to pick up a book in your free time. If anything, it makes students despise reading even more. The best way to improve literacy is to let students explore engaging, meaningful content at their own pace—not force them to endure soul-crushing passages with robotic comprehension tests.

Reading Plus isn’t a reading tool—it’s a reading prison. Round 2 coming soon.

Dont go on this website

well i guess some of the stories are ok but it makes me nervous because a lot of the time after the story finishes there are questions, and the questions are all really hard to get correct or unrelated to the story. It just makes kids hate learning even more. I just sit there and dont concentrate on the book because i get so bored.

DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING!!

I've been stuck on the same rotation of boring reading plus "books" for like 2 years, glad we don't do that anymore at our school. Actual books can be way more interesting so do that instead. DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING!!
