I bought a fairly expensive unit…

I bought a fairly expensive unit directly from QNAP. I have sold and owned many QNAP units over the years, and I like them. However dealing with QNAP staff in uk is a different story. I made an enquiry on their webpage for suitable solution. Got a reply straight away, communication was looking good until after the payment. Then I had to chase up the shipping and delivery repeatedly, unit arrived with rails that didn't fit the cabinet, I got in touch and I keep having to chase up a response, absolutely shocking attitude from the UK staff. For what it is, it's a very expensive unit. And if you bought through different generations, you can appreciate that the newer units feel less and less premium as they come out. However, Synology seems to be keeping better. It's no surprise that Qnap's rating on here is only 1.6. Not everyone is wrong. For the cost of these units, there are a lot more alternatives around nowadays. I would definitely look at all options instead of defaulting on Qnap like I did. They won't be selling as much to me as they have until now.

I have owned my QNAP device for a few years and their Customer Support is abysmal.

I have owned my QNAP device for a few years now. During this time I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with QNAP support. All I want a NAS to do is store data, and allow me to back it up somewhere.
I have had multiple instances of their remote backup solutions breaking - first Dropbox and then Google Drive. In this last issue, I reported that Google Drive backup crashes and they have taken over 5 months to decide that they are no longer interested in trying to resolve the issue so just want to close the case.
When I first reported it, it was constantly failing and would have been in a great position to investigate and solve the issue but they took so long that it just went intermittent and that's not something they can deal with now. I much prefer my Synology - it just works!

Bought a TS-233 for home use

Bought a TS-233 for home use. Really regret buying this product. It is probably a good product for major It installations but it is far too complicated for a home user.
Sold as a home user product, obviously for someone with weeks to spare to get it setup. Not intuitive and the popup tutorials may make sense to their employees but not to a home user. Will be turning it off soon and consigning to the junk pile. What a waste of money

QNAP TS-464 purchased in Feb 2024

QNAP TS-464 purchased in Feb 2024. Had four 3 TB HDDs installed. Granted, I repurposed the drives from another NAS but drive check found no errors. All was working fine for about 3 or 4 months. Then, one at a time, a drive would disconnect. Not fail, disconnect. After replacing each drive and rebuilding the raid, then two drives failed at one. I didn't lose any data because I use the 3-2-1 backup method. Thinking it was the repurposed drives I was using, I bit the bullet and bought four 12tb HDDs ($1200) and started over.
Well, low and behold, after the 3 days it took to sync up the disks, a drive disconnected. Called tech support and the response was "The drives I selected were not on QNAPs approval list". Hmmmm. I don't think so. I sent a screenshot of THEIR APPROVED DRIVES from THEIR WEBSITE of the exact drives I purchased which are clearly approved. Their response?? "The website maybe incorrect". Really?!?! So, now I'm pretty ticked. I tear everything back down and rebuild from the ground up. As soon as the drives re synced (another 3 days), BAM! Another drive disconnects. So, I'm $500 in the hole for the QNAP purchase and another $1200 for new drives. Again, I haven't lost any data, just two weeks of my life of trouble shooting ONE SINGLE DEVICE.
So, I have shelved this P.O.S., recovered the new drives, SSDs and memory and put them into a Synology.

The moral of the story boys and girls, STAY AWAY FROM QNAP.....

QNAP Support incompetent

I bought a very expensive QNAP TS-h973AX Drive system and moved all my critical files from External USB drives to this QNAP system.

All worked fine for about 2 months.

This week I have been unable to access the QNAP Drive in the usual way, so I contacted QNAP Support.

I was only able to access it via the IP address.

I requested that a specialist connect remotely to my Desktop to help fix the problem.

Today 2nd August 2024, a QNAP Support person Stefanos Bozos connected to my desktop, and spent 4 hours trying to fix the problem.

He changed many Windows settings including the registry as well as other settings… too many to remember, but in the end my desktop had completely no access to the NAS. Before he started working at least I could connect via the IP address… and half way through his testing the desktop was able to connect correctly. But he tried some other settings and following that could get no access to the NAS.

So after his support intervention I had less access to the NAS than before he started. He apologised and said that he would escalate the case and that probably more experienced system guys would contact me to fix it.

4 hours later, he sent an email saying that the issue had to do with Windows settings and not the NAS and recommended me to contact MS to see if they could fix it.

I have asked him that I want to lodge a formal complaint and to speak to a manager.

But I am unable to access my critical files on the QNAP NAS at present.

Avoid qnap devices

I own a TS-253D. I paid more to have a multipurpous device, which it is not capable of. It is a piece of garbage. Totally not worth the money. There is a ton of small issues that pisses me of. First of all it is slow AF™. It takes like half an hour to an hour to reboot this thing. The web interface is also very very slow, it was from the beginning. I tried to run wordpress server, it is almost unusable.
I tried to add an m.2 ssd stick on a pcie expansion board, it turned out that they block you from using 3rd party pcie boards. You have to buy their own expansion board that is almost as expensive as the device itself. The 3rd party board works, but they don't let you use it for anything else than read out cache. What a joke. And even when I set it as a read cache device, it used up the drive write capacity in about a year.
It constantly forgets 2 factor authentication on random apps I use.
The drives never ever go to spindown, the device constantly writes or reads something there, it never stops. It was like that from beginning, even when I wasn't running any additional services there. Transfers are sloooooow, especially when you try to send multiple small giles. I'm about to switch this piece of sheet to a DIY proxmox server.

Hardware QA has gone down the toilet

Hardware QA has gone down the toilet. No service or support for major issues (ie complete system failure / reboot loop). More than three months to repair (and still not returned yet). I would avoid unless you are feeling very very lucky.

He perdido miles de fotos, cientos de proyectos desarrollados, apuntes, documentos importantes de mi trabajo, documentos importantes de mi empresa... y no se hacen cargo de nada ni dan soluciones. QNAP should be called QCRAP

QNAP should be called QCRAP. I attached a TR002 expansion unit. It wrecked the NAS, the laptop and my phone. Their products that do work don't do it for long and cause nothing but stress. GO FOR A BETTER BRAND!

Good service

Good service - Thank you for quick and professional treatment

Have a QNAP TS-653D as the power supply stopped working. send over a general request to qnap support. answer came within a few hours due to the time difference between Norway and Taiwan.

Qnap wanted a copy of the receipt when it was purchased and the serial number. Unfortunately, it was out of warranty and I couldn't find the original receipt.

Then I got another answer within a few hours QNAP customer service would send me new power for free.
It only took 3 days from when I contacted QNAP until UPS had delivered new power.

So QNAP deserves 10/10 stars when it comes to service and customer care.

Shocking support for poor products

We purchased a TVS-h1288X. Had it 8 months as the main storage for the company, then it powered down and would not power back up. Immediately I thought it was the PSU. I contacted QNAP support which don't support on UK time (Great!!!). They told me to remove all HDD and then try to power it back up. This wasted another day for what I knew would not work/was pointless. They then asked me to post the whole unit back to them at my cost. I said that it was almost certainly the PSU and could I simply buy a new one to replace it as we couldn't be without our data. They said to post it back because it might not be the PSU as that was not common and would not send us a PSU. We posted the unit back, they then reported that it was the PSU (obvious) that was at fault. Now we are waiting for the unit to be returned by royal mail (no eta on the day of return). All in around a week of down time, plus the time spent taking the HDD out and then back in, plus time spent recovering cloud backup, plus the postage, plus emails and calls to a largely absent support team. Had I known the support and product failure rate was this bad, I would have never purchased a QNAP.

Total junk

Total junk, was going to use as dvr but that was worthless, then I just made it for file syncing and backups, but that garbage doesn't work anymore either. I built my own for dvr several months ago and have had no issues whatsoever except for the Plex Install. I'm throwing mine in the garbage tomorrow after spending half the day trying to get QSync installed and working properly. By the way, I have degrees in programming and network administrator.

Awful support service

Hello,
I have a TVS-h1288X bought in January 2023. HDD's, SSD RAM and UPS bought with it directly from the oficial dealer. All compatible and all working great.

In August, the QNAP started to simply shutdown and restart itself. Open a support ticket. Done all the tests support requested all the code lines, everything. This went weeks and weeks until, finally, they send the case to R+D. I waited 2 more weeks for reply. They opened a RMA and the QNAP was finally sent.

3 Weeks later: Qnap replaced the power source and sent the device back. I turned on. It worked ok during one day, and it started to fail again. It's random. It can work for 1 or 2 days without an issue, but it suddenly shutdown and restart, and when it does it, I can happen several consecutive times (like 5 or 6, until I quit and just shut down the device).

Again, I reached Qnap support. They told me they would again send the case to R+D, and re-open the RMA. This was 2 weeks ago, no contact from them yet.

My first contact with QNAP support regarding this issue was more than 2 months ago! (30.08.2023) The problem is yet to be solved and I own a piece of very expensive hardware that does not work.
Is the QNAP support always this bad?

OUTSTANDING SUPPORT - Huge thanks.

QNAP Expansion TL-D800C connected to my QNAP TVS-871T. For some reason the expansion would not connect and unit lost storage pools. I contacted QNAP support via QTS. Outstanding service received. Within 48 hours and remote accessing securely my NAS, Mike Brockwell got everything sorted, including help from his R&D team. Everything is back online, data accessed and I am back to normal. Thank you very much.

After a failed firmware update and a bricked TS-873, I contacted support and they said there was no way to reset the firmware for this model. I then found a forum that actually pointed to a working firmware (on the QNAP site!!!) that worked perfectly and restored the NAS. Support wanted me to RMA the product in China, when in fact I was able to fix it in 5 minutes. BTW, for some reason this firmware was not advertised on their firmware webpage.

The Worst Customer Service

I've had my QNAP NAS for about 4.5 years now. Every time I've found a bug in their system. I get jerked around by customer support. I do everything they ask in order to confirm my hypothesis, screen shots, backup data, I've even reformated my PC and my NAS just to prove in's not a problem on my side. Just so they'll believe me. I've given them indisputable proof of the problem. They ignore the facts and after weeks of working with them they ALWAYS conclude that it's not their fault. They deny responsibility every time. I've done this about 6 times over the years. I'm done with them. Do not support this company.

Stay far away from this company!!

Stay far away from this company!!! Absolutely no customer service!! Ordered equipment in April, they took the money and still no equipment and no one will reply to my many emails, calls etc. I know they got the order because Gabi G reached out to change my order but now won't email me back.

I will cancel my order once I can get my money refunded and will never associate with this company again!

The Most AWESOME Tech Support EVER !

The Most AWESOME Tech Support EVER !
I have an OLD QNAP TS-459 Pro II NAS purchased in 2014. after 4 years I needed better video capability so purchased a new NAS and the 459 was mothballed. Recently I built a new computer and needed a network drive on which I could save the backup files. So I took the old 459 out of mothballs and although I could map folders on the 459 as a network drive, the NAS would not show as a computer over the network, so I contacted QNAP via a service inquiry. Ernesto responded and set up a team viewer session for the next day. He spent a full hour reviewing my connections, firmware, system status, etc. This even though my old 459 was EOL (end of life). Most other companies would simply have said "I'm sorry but we can't support an EOL device", but not QNAP. The technician spent a full hour working with me until we finally found the root cause of the problem. QNAP went above and beyond to help me solve my problem

Deadbolt Ransomeware Attack

I had purchased a QNAP NAS Drive to store our personal files. QNAP have been hit by a ransomware attack which has resulted in the loss of nearly 20 years of family photos and videos. Their support since this has been ridiculous, and the only option seems to be to either wait to see if a recovery key becomes available (Been waiting nearly a year now) or to pay the criminals approx. £1000 in bitcoin!

I had kept my drive up to date and there were no advisory emails about the attacks despite the fact they knew they were happening well before I has hacked. It looks like there was an old app which was pre-installed on the drive which hadn't been updated and allowed the hackers in and this is solely based on their own security inadequacies. No other companies seem to have had these issues.

The responce to being hacked is asking anyone to keep their NAS Drives up to date, Set a strong password and istall malware software, all of which was in place but other than that they can't help!

Awful Company and Support.

STAY WELL CLEAR!!!!
