Hand my house keys to another customer!

Zoe from Preston Baker was absolutely fantastic throughout the purchase of my house 🏠 in Selby. She was professional, helpful and went above and beyond, and I genuinely couldn’t fault her service.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for what happened when I collected the keys on Friday afternoon.
Anna, another agent, made a major and completely avoidable mistake by handing the keys to my new house to another customer. This wasn’t a minor admin error — my removal men were already outside the property waiting to unload, leaving me standing there unable to get into my own home on moving day.
Anna tried calling the customer who had been given my keys, but initially got no answer. A locksmith was therefore arranged to gain access to the property. However, when the other customer eventually called back to say they were on their way, Anna then tried to cancel the locksmith.
Quite frankly, I found that extremely frustrating. After making such a serious mistake in the first place, the priority should have been getting me into my property as quickly as possible, not potentially leaving me waiting even longer while the situation was resolved.
I had to make sure the locksmith wasn’t cancelled, despite the fact that the whole situation had been caused by an error that should never have happened in the first place.
Moving house is stressful enough without having to deal with an estate agent giving your house keys to somebody else. It was a schoolboy error on what was already an incredibly stressful day, and there needs to be a much better system in place to ensure this cannot happen again.
I would happily recommend Zoe personally because she was excellent, but the experience with Anna was extremely disappointing and, in my opinion, completely unacceptable for Associate Director

We are, however, genuinely sorry for what happened when you came to collect the keys on moving day. We fully appreciate how frustrating and stressful it must have been to arrive with your removal team waiting outside, only to find that the keys had been handed to the wrong customer. This was an unfortunate human error, and we completely understand your disappointment.
As soon as the mistake was identified, Anna took responsibility and acted to resolve the situation, including arranging an emergency locksmith and personally ensuring the correct keys were returned to the property. We appreciate that this does not undo the inconvenience you experienced, but we hope it demonstrates how seriously the situation was taken and the steps taken to put it right.
We have reflected carefully on what happened and will be reviewing our key-handling procedures to help ensure an error like this does not happen again. We sincerely apologise for the additional stress caused on what should have been an exciting day, and we thank you for your kind words about Zoe.

Seamless experience with Preston Baker
We’re buying a house through Preston Baker - we’ve just exchanged and will be moving in a week or so. Preston Baker have been excellent from start to finish. The viewing was good, plenty of time, and the agent Gemma Carter was very knowledgeable about the property, and if she didn’t know the answers, she came back very quickly with the information. Throughout the rest of the negotiations and legal processes, Gemma Carter’s been a huge help - always easily available, keeping us informed and keeping things moving at both ends. Overall, it’s been a seamless experience and I would recommend Preston Baker to anyone buying or selling a property.

The most proactive and strategic agent
We sold our house with Preston Baker in November, after previously being disappointed with Manning Stainton.
Andrew at Preston Baker was a breath of fresh air – proactive, strategic, and genuinely driven to get results. He ultimately secured a sale on our property where the other, more lacklustre agent had failed.
The team were also excellent after the offer was accepted, handling any issues fairly, efficiently, and with clear communication throughout.

Great Estate Agents
Preston Baker were amazing throughout the sale of my late Mum's property. Gemma was professional, efficient and competent. She dealt with any issues quickly and effectively. Within three weeks of the property being on the market, we received offers. Gemma has a wealth of experience and knowledge and advised on the best option. She was right. The sale went smoothly and Gemma was happy to nudge solicitors when all went quiet. We completed in less than three months.

After all the ups and downs of buying and selling, I honestly cannot thank Anna and Zoe at Preston Baker enough.

A difficult and traumatic experience, but supported by our agent
Our house move took over a year, thanks to 2 sets of committed buyers withdrawing for personal reasons. We chose Preston Baker at Oakwood, Leeds because of the single point of contact Gemma Duxbury, who formed a WhatsApp group with us. She was warm, supportive and approachable throughout especially when having to deliver 'bad news', which she always did via a phone call. We had little contact therefore with the office, but Gemma was always responsive when needed. Each of the three times that our house went on market, Gemma and the office had plenty of viewers lined up and we sold quite quickly on each occasion.
There were a couple of times during the process when we felt that little progress was being made and we had to be proactive ourselves, forming a relationship with our vendors and our buyers. However, the fact that we are finally in our last 'forever home' is largely due to Gemma holding our hands on our tortuous journey. We would recommend Preston Baker and, particularly, Gemma.
