Hidden £49 recurring subscription trap on £5 top-up — Demand a full refund!

Beware when making a basic top-up on this site. I attempted a single £5.00 mobile top-up, only to find an unexpected £49.00 subscription charge taken from my card days later under the descriptor "prepaidmobilerecharge".
The recurring fee was hidden behind unclear checkout terms. When I complained, their compliance support initially rejected the complaint then after a significant number of chasers, offered partial "goodwill" refunds (first 20%, then 50%) to try to settle the dispute. Do not accept partial refunds.

Once I formally issued a deadlock notice and escalated the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) against my bank for refusing a chargeback, the merchant issued a 100% full refund.

If you were caught in this trap:

Reject all partial refund offers from support.

Demand a 100% refund in writing.

If they refuse, file a chargeback under Merchant Misrepresentation via your card issuer or escalate directly to the Financial Ombudsman

I bought a one-off top up from them for my business POS as the wifi was down.
Somewhere, buried in the small print, was an agreement to pay them a monthly subscription fee of £29.
I only became aware of this when my bank flagged it up as suspicious activity and blocked my card.
Ok, strictly speaking, it's not illegal and I should have read the conditions properly.
However, it's underhand practice and a morally bankrupt way to run a business.

deducted £49 without my consent on a…

Do not touch this with a ten-foot barge pole. Read this before you enter your card details.

I went to make a £10 mobile top-up. £49 was taken from my account. What I had actually been signed up to — without ever knowingly agreeing to it — was a 'Premium Membership' at £49 PER MONTH, on a 3-day free trial that rolls straight into a full charge. It is not a one-off. It recurs every single month until you find the cancellation page.

By their own admission on their website, they are not a telecom provider and are not affiliated with any mobile operator. You are not buying a top-up. You are buying a monthly 'membership' from a company registered in Nicosia, Cyprus, that promises to reimburse mobile expenses if you send in receipts.

What makes this so effective is the design of the checkout. A person looking for a £10 top-up is not looking for a £588-a-year subscription, and the pricing is not put in front of them in a way anyone could miss. Under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 — in force since April 2025 — 'drip pricing' is prohibited: showing a headline figure and then adding unavoidable charges as the customer moves through the transaction. Misleading omissions about the total price are prohibited too. Under regulation 40 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, extra payments on top of the agreed price require the customer's express consent obtained beforehand, and consent inferred from a default option or pre-ticked box does not count — the trader has to reimburse it.

If this has already happened to you, act today:
• Cancel in writing by email and keep the proof. Do not rely on a confirmation screen.
• Tell your bank you are cancelling the CONTINUOUS PAYMENT AUTHORITY. They must stop future payments and cannot make you deal with the merchant first.
• Ask your bank about a refund under regulation 79 of the Payment Services Regulations 2017 — where the amount taken exceeded what you could reasonably have expected. Eight-week deadline.
• Raise a chargeback.
• Report it to Trading Standards via Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133, and to the CMA.

Check your statements. If they got £49 once, they will try again next month.

(I'm not a lawyer — this is my own experience and my own reading of the rules.)

Complete SCAM

Complete SCAM. They do not abide by Consumer Contract laws and sign you up without any ticked consent for a £49 a month subscription. Avoid like the plague.
They are breaching both PCI regulations and GDPR laws.

Attempting to take unauthorised payment

Topped up a mobile on one occasion for £5. Since this date the company keep attempting to take payments off my bank card used. I have reported to my bank as fraud. Be careful if using. They have zero authority to use my details.

Would give a zero if I could

Would give a zero if I could. I also thought I purchased a €10 top up. I deliberately chose the no subscription option and they charged me an additional €49 for a service I didn’t sign up to. They state by agreeing to their terms and conditions that you are opting into their service, however nowhere does it say in their terms and condition that you have to pay for a subscription, in fact it says you are choosing the non-subscription option. Absolutely shady company and honestly businesses like these should not be allowed operate online. I’ll be contacting my bank for a chargeback.

Definitely a fraudulent company

Definitely a fraudulent company. I used the service once for £20 top up. Thinking it was a legit company, Only to see that further down line that they had taken £49 from my bank which I never authorised.

I would recommend you stay clear of this and try and find an official mobile carrier to go through to get your top up. I feel cheated and robbed.

I’ve contacted my bank and reported for fraud

And I’ve just opened up a trust pilot account just so I can leave a review and warn people
