AVOID! Quoted £295+VAT, then demanded £1,221 after work

We were quoted £295+VAT over the phone (recorded) for reconditioning a Nissan 350Z steering rack. Based on this quote, we shipped our rack to them. After completing the work, they sent an invoice for £1,221 - over 4x the quoted price.
When challenged with our recorded call evidence, they claimed they "misheard" the registration and thought it was for a VW Golf (completely different part). They've since offered various "discounts" from £1,221 to £927 to £450 - but still refuse to honour their original quote.
They are currently refusing to return our property unless we pay significantly more than agreed. They've also falsely claimed we've used them "multiple times in the past" - this was our first and only interaction with them. In our opinion, this appears to be bait-and-switch style pricing. We remain willing to pay the agreed price of £295 + VAT.
Would not recommend based on our experience.
This is now being disputed and a Letter Before Action was issued, County Court claim to follow if not resolved in 7 days.
