I am sharing my experience to warn others about a serious issue with a car rental company in Tenerife.
In January 2026, I rented a car in Tenerife. Shortly after, I noticed that the company had charged an additional €200 to my card without any prior notice or explanation. It took me about a month to get the money back, and the company claimed it was due to an “employee mistake.”
Although the issue seemed resolved, in April 2026 I was charged again – €137.55 was deducted from my account. At that time, I was not in Tenerife and had not rented any vehicle.
This raises serious concerns about how this company handles customer payment details and authorizations. Unauthorized charges appearing months later are not acceptable.
I strongly advise everyone to carefully review all contract terms before signing, especially clauses related to payment authorization. Even a small checkbox may grant the company permission to charge your account later.
Also monitor your bank statements closely after using such services.
If anyone else has experienced similar issues, it would be useful to know.
Great Experience
Paid 109 euros for 6 days for a Fiat 500. No deposit required on there budget cars, was a bit sceptical but everything was great! On arriving at the airport we walked past the huge queues at the car rental booths, the company i nearly went with at double the cost had a queue that had to be over an hours wait. We followed the instructions and found the plus car rep sitting in the sunshine in the car park at plus cars bay, no queue at all. We signed the documents, I was still expecting to be hit with a big deposit or hidden extras but no, he handed us the key and showed us our car parked a few feet away. I done the usual take pics and video before we left but as insurance was included not really required, he just said on return pop the keys through the slot in the back of the plus cars van that was parked where he was sat. We had a fab week then on return popped the keys through the slot in the van as he said and left for home. Great experience and until anything changes my mind will deffo be the go to hire company in Tenerife. Thanks you
Reservation was so simple, so we taught it was scam.
Reservation was so simple, so we taught it was scam. But after we arrived, our car ''T-Roc'' was waiting for us. Car had bumps and dents, so we recorded a video, and after rent video was recorded. Thank god none of that was not needed as our deposit were released after 3-4 working days. So gratefull for cabrio, we expected some problems (based on reviews) so I decided to be gratefull and write my own experiance.
Stay away if you value your family’s life.
Do not use this service if you value your life, and your family’s life.
Within 10 minutes leaving the airport the car broke down on the highway. Driving the car less than 10 km and they insisted on me paying for a new clutch.
Stay well away, I repeat, stay well away.
I wish you and your family happy time in Tenerife, so stay away from this operation.
Can’t understand how it’s legal or even allowed in the EU. Needs to be investigated.

I’m repeating my previous review because this appears to be the same group operating under different company names and frequently changing their phone numbers.
DO NOT RENT from Pluscar!!!!!!!
These companies are a scam. You WILL NOT get your deposit back!!!!! We booked online with clear pricing, but when the vehicle was delivered, they demanded hundreds more in hidden fees. The car was also lower grade than what we reserved. They refused to answer calls and stopped responding entirely. Afterward, we found multiple reviews describing the exact same experience. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
All risk insurance is not real
This company advertises all risk insurance, but then once we scratched the car with a column in a parking lot and we had to pay 400 euro for the damage on the car, even when they could not show any fine print where said condition was stated

This company is operating an elaborate scam with tourists. Beware.
We hired a car for a short break, received a WV T Cross, not what we booked but were happy to accept the change on arrival to the airport. On taking the car, it began to become clear that there was an underlying mechanical issue with the clutch / gearbox. Trouble selecting low gears, clutch not disengaging making the car stall at roundabouts etc.
Reported to the company, which turns out it is Carzrent and Auto Plus Car operating together. They didn't respond immediately, i had to chase it the next day. Eventually told they would send a mechanic to the vehicle at a pre arranged time, 17:00, as we had walked to planned activities that day due to not wanting to use the rental car.
Between the time we had discussed by Whatsapp and the planned time to meet the mechanic, the company had arrived and taken the car away without us present. They said they were giving us another car at 18:00 and we would meet them with it. Eventually at 18:45 2x representatives of the company arrived, extremely rude and blaming us for breaking the vehicle. Little did we know at this point, they were charging my credit card unauthorized for the repair to the vehicle and the collection from the roadside etc. They have take the rental deposit of 300 euros and taken a further £420 from my credit card.
They are a complete scam company and i find it quite amusing that once a negative review is posted, a 5 star review appears... mmmm, i am not a detective but i can smell something fishy!
In summary... DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, THEY WILL TAKE UNAUTHORISED MONEY FROM YOU AND NOT RETURN YOUR RENTAL DEPOSIT.
They have been reported to the authorities in the Canary Islands.
Did not get my deposit back in 5 days as promised.
I have rented from Pluscar Tenerife before with no problems, but this time they asked for a deposit of 300€. I returned the car on time 23.12.24, with plenty of fuel and was promised to get the deposit back in 5 days… it has now been two weeks and they haven’t returned the deposit, or answered my emails. Will update my review, if they return my money.
EDIT: it took one month, instead of 5 days but I got the deposit back. So I changed my review from 1 to 3 stars.
I ordered automatic car
I ordered automatic car. Paid for it extra money to compare with mechanical. On the day they gave me mechanical. Did not say anything as it was 3 am and I was with my toddler. Contacted the administration to ask for a refund of difference they said they dont do refunds. They can change the car however it was my last days in the islands so there was no point to change it. Then they offered to bring car with empty fuel but they gave me with empty fuel on the first day. Avoid.
HORRIBLE DISGUSTING CAR
We booked a car and used it for one week. The Mercedes GLC.
To start off, the car STANK of cannabis. I have three children, this was not appropriate. My husband brought a scent to try and get rid of the smell but nothing worked. They had given us the car firstly with the window open so initially we couldn’t smell anything (convenient) but after parking the car with the windows closed for a few hours the smell was unbearable. The front left side suspension was near broken, the noise it was making was ridiculous and every second we thought we were going to crash. It was a horrible experience and I will not be recommending anyone to rent a car from here.

On the day of the drop-off I found it a bit hard to find the proper car park, do keep in mind it is the Private Car Park.

I recently rented a car with PlusCar Tenerife the week just gone from October 1st to today the 8th. And I can’t fault anything from my experience. The rep was a nice guy who met me at airport. The car was supposed to be an automatic but on arrival it was manual but that was fine. The 300e deposit if you don’t have credit card was a surprise as they advertise no deposit and also an email told me no deposit required. So maybe they could be more detailed in advertisement. But other than that the car was fine, ran smooth. Really clean inside and we requested a baby seat which the rep installed for us and it was also spotless. On return I had my deposit back and all by end of day which I was happy about as a lot of people saying they holding deposit but I got mine straight away even though I was told could take 4 days. So all in all I had a very pleasent experience.

After almost 7 years renting with Pluscar Tenerife Sur and between 3 and 4 times each year, today has been one of the worst situations I have experienced on my holidays on the island. They gave me a car which stopped 3 times because the gear shift lever blocked when driving, they sent a mechanic to see the car, according to the mechanic there was a broken hose but at the office they refused to call the tow truck saying that if I called it it would be at my expense, I had to drive the car when it was not safe and it broke down again on the road, I recorded a video in which you can clearly see how the gear shift lever would not move and the guy at the office gave more priority to the video instead of sending someone to help me since I had been stranded on the road, several times he raised his voice, which I had to ask him please not to speak to me in that tone and look for a solution to help me and let him give priority to the video, I am a client on vacation on the island who has paid for a service in which they advertise with comprehensive insurance but I was denied the use of a tow truck. His response was that I couldn't leave the office and leave her alone, which I fully understand. When he came to my aid, he came with an automatic car, which I don't know how to drive. If I knew how to drive, I would rent it without a problem, but that's why I always choose a car with gears. Even so, the guy looked angry. He tried my car by himself, going around a roundabout, and with that he told me the car was fine. Even so, I drove it to the office in Chafiras and it almost broke down on me again on 2 more occasions. They gave me a new car, but I wouldn't recommend the treatment and the situation I experienced to anyone. I lost an entire day of vacation because of this situation. I hope this reaches a lot of people and that the Pluscar staff learns that it is a priority and how to treat customers.
