Good selection, but mixed quality.

The 2 times I've ordered from PlayTech-Asia, I've gotten all the anime I ordered no problems. But there have been technical issues with all of the series so far.

I tried to review them on their website, but they seem to block your reviews unless you give them 4-5 stars (to make their products look better). Since they are blocking my reviews, I'll post my findings here hoping they will help someone else. I primarily watch series with original language and English subtitles, so some of my critism comes from there.

Eminence in The Shadows - Seasons 1 & 2 (4 out of 5 Stars):

Mostly good quality wise. The main problem is when multiple people are talking, they don't separate the subtitles, they mash them all together. This can make things rather confusing when they rapid fire multiple conversations at once.

Kuroko's Basketball - All Seasons (3 out of 5 Stars:

It started out fairly good quality for the first 2 discs, but when you get to disc 3 (which has some of the exciting finals tournament episodes) their menu is broken in the language section. They accidentally duplicated 2 of their menus so trying to change language or turn on subtitles isn't available (it loads episode selection twice instead). It is frustrating because unless you can speak Japanese, you are completely out of luck for all of disc 3's episodes.

Food Wars - All Seasons (4 out of 5 Stars):

Mostly good quality wise so far. They do a good job with the spoken subtitles, but they removed all of the other subtitles that translate written text on the screen, so you sometimes miss context or funny subtext.

Problem with disc 2 - episode 35 (first Stagiare episode). After the episode ends, the screen goes black and it freezes. You to go back to the main menu episode selection to continue onto episode 36 manually.

Summary:

Most of their anime is watchable, but I've found problems with every series I've purchased so far. As I watch other series purchased from PlayTech-Asia, I'll try to update my review.

24/7 support does not exist.

PlayTech Asia had been pretty good for a few years. I've always enjoyed shopping with them. For those reading this, other reviewers are claiming that PlayTech is a bootleg company, that is not true. PlayTech is licensed to sell exclusive DVDs and BluRays.

Now for the issue. I'm rating them a 2 because recently, their service has drastically declined. I placed an order with them, and for some reason, they messed up my address when providing it to FedEx. FedEx delivered my order to some other address. I tried to intervene by calling FedEx to explain the issue before they delivered my order, but all they would say is that I have to contact the shipper, which is PlayTech Asia. I currently have four support tickets with them that were placed in the last two weeks. None of the tickets were responded too. PlayTech Asia claims they have 24/7 support, this is not true. They do not have ANY support. They will take your money and most of the time deliver your order, but there is the one chance they mess it up and theyll still keep your money and just ignore you.

Up to now I've made 3 large orders…

Up to now I've made 3 large orders (£134, £382 and £146) from playtech and my experience was pretty good.
The first 2 orders did take around 2 weeks to process which was a long time but once posted via FedEx to the uk I recived them within 3-4 days fully tracked.
My 3rd order was processed in under a week and like above delivered promptly.
So far I'm happy with the service and the items received. The only improvement I could suggest is a bit more communication/progress reporting during the processing stage as you do tend to panic a bit when nothing seems to be happening for that period until being posted.

Lots of negativity about this site

Lots of negativity about this site, but so far I’m impressed. Although the site is “uncomfortable” to navigate, I eventually got my tracking # and followed progress thru FedEx… received my order in 9 days. Not bad for an international delivery. Haven’t played the DVDs yet, it’s not yet the holiday, but the packaging is stellar and everything has been treated with care and attention to detail. I’ll update you once the materials have been played and verified.

Play tech Asia is a bootleg or pirating…

Play tech Asia is a bootleg or pirating company you can tell from some parts of the anime not actually working write like songs not being displayed and a blurry patch in part of the screen like I have on my Macross Delta I purchased from this company.

This site looks like a total scam

This site looks like a total scam - they advertised a product that the don’t have, charge you and don’t follow up. When you request information about your order, only then do they say it isn’t possible. Then they promise a refund and don’t process it. Buyer beware

Avoid This Company Like The Plague

I placed an order with this company for a Japanese TV series. Initially they were very attentive with answering e-mail questions I had about the series. I placed the order and I never received it. I tried contacting the person I had several e-mail exchanges with prior to placing the order and she no longer responds back.

I tried searching for the status of my order through their on-line track order status and it comes back with the message "Your delivery status is not available, Please contact our customer service to help resolve this issue". I sent an e-mail to the Customer Site e-mail address and again I received no reply back.

I'll now update as many sites that have a review of this company to point out what I've written here and state that this company is a fraud.

Happy with my purchase

Happy with my purchase. After reading the reviews I regretted using PlayTech-Asia, half expecting my videos not to arrive. Surprise! They were a bit late, but all good. I guess only complainants use this site. Glad to be able to give them a positive review for once.

Orders from them

Got it. Haven't tried them. Does take over 2 weeks but I'm happy with the result. Will update once watched. Studio ghibli complete set.

DVD missing in box, claim filed, no answer ...

I ordered a DVD box on PlayTech-Asia site for more than 2 months now. When I opened the box, I found 1 DVD missing.
I informed PlayTech-Asia of the situation but got absolutely no answer, even after I sent a dunning mail.
It's been nearly a month now so I assume I will never have the missing DVD ... nor any answer ...

Awful Experience!

It is rare that I have ever given anyplace 1 star before, but this is definitely one of those times. I knew the site sold Maylay bootleg copies of Animes, as the one I wanted doesn't have an actual physical release yet (High School Prodigies Have It Easy, Even In Another World). I still wanted a physical copy of it & decided to try my chances with it. I no doubt received it, only it was bent right down the middle upon receiving it and the discs & disc holder were destroyed. Unfortunate, but figured I'd contact them to work it out. I told them the problem when I sent correspondence to them about it and attached pictures...2 weeks pass, not a word from them. I decide to try reaching them on Facebook, they responded the next day saying they'd reply to my original claim. I'd already shown them picture proof of all the damage, yet they ask me if the discs were damage...um yeah, I already confirmed that and re-attached the pictures. I don't hear anything else back from them after that point and can't get ahold of them on Facebook either...I basically got duped. Don't order from this crappy site people...they may send you your item, or not...I don't know, but whatever the case, if they do ship it and it's defective or damaged, good luck getting a refund or getting it replaced. Thankfully I hadn't paid a whole lot, I'm only out about $25, but take my advice & steer clear of this website!

Horrible service

Horrible service. Fake products: KDrama ordered "in stock", delayed 4weeks before shipping. Once received they all are fake: rip off from TV broadcast, very badly encoded (Netflix streaming is far better!), and not cut (you have the TV broadcast advertisements). Avoid at all costs.
