Nothing short of a scamming company

I got an insurance policy for my small business through an agent from Pie Insurance and they without informing me started charging $15 every month as installment fee. In the receipt they conveniently hid this fee. Eventhough I was okay paying all at once and did know about this charge. When we raised a complain about it they got back and said it is what it is and we cannot change it. They even told my agent that we should have checked it before the policy was issued and flatly rejected our request. So I paid $180 extra a year on a policy with a total premium of around $420 a year. So the installment fee was alomost 50%. This is an abhorrent behavior from Pie Insurance and should be penalized for that. Is this how you treat small business owners who are taking a huge risk with their venture. If you are a small business and an insurance agent, I highly recommend staying away from Pie Insurance due to their unethical, predatory, and unprofessional practices.

Scam!!!

Received an audit invoice for 361 dollars for two weeks worth of payroll I never had and employees I don't even have. They said they wouldn't charge me since I didn't open the business and now they are threatening me if I don't pay. This company is a scam! And you could never talk to someone on the phone. In the emails they are not calling me by my correct name!

Unauthorized ACH attempt, refused documentation, threatened collections during active dispute

As the owner of Jacksonville Lawn & Shrub LLC, I set up a pay-as-you-go workers' compensation policy through Pie Insurance via Gusto payroll. The entire point of that structure was to ensure premiums were collected accurately in real time — eliminating the need for a year-end audit adjustment.
After the policy period ended, Pie conducted an audit and claimed I owed $2,900. When I requested the audit worksheet and supporting documentation — which I am legally entitled to — they refused to provide anything. No breakdown. No explanation. Nothing.
Within 24 hours of my written dispute, they threatened to send my account to collections. They also attempted an unauthorized ACH withdrawal from my bank account while the dispute was still open.
I submitted actual payroll records showing the correct figures. That was ignored.
I was a multi-year customer. I went through serious health issues during this policy period — including brain surgeries — and set up automated payroll billing specifically because I could not manage manual processes at that time. Not once did Pie show any acknowledgment of that, any flexibility, or any basic human decency.
If you are a small business owner, do not trust this company. When you need them to be fair, they will not be. 1 star is one more than they deserve.

Pie insurance is the absolute worst

Pie insurance is the absolute worst. They are unprofessional rude and do not care about their customers. I've been trying for 2 weeks to get a hold of someone in customer service to no avail. I've asked repeatedly for an email a phone call anything no communication at all.

Poor service

Poor service. My vehicle has been ready at the body shop for over a week, but the insurer has not issued payment despite repeated assurances from the adjuster. Very disappointed with the lack of follow-through. I have been without a car getting rides for a month. I do not recommend this insurance.

1 Star – Absolutely Terrible Company

Absolutely Terrible Company

Pie Workers’ Compensation is a complete disaster. Their customer service is nonexistent, and once they take your money, good luck getting any response back. I’ve been trying to get a refund and they simply ignore emails, calls, and follow-ups. Total silence.

Their premiums are ridiculously high, and when there’s a problem, they disappear. This company clearly doesn’t care about small businesses or customers once they’ve collected payment. It feels borderline unethical how they operate.

If you value your time, money, or sanity, stay far away from Pie Insurance. There are plenty of better, more professional options out there.

DON'T ever and I mean ever go with this…

DON'T ever and I mean ever go with this shitty insurance company. They had harassed us for two years wanting a thousand dollars. Long after we gave a notice of cancellation they kept taking hundreds out of our accounts every month until we cancelled our cards. Now they've threatened us with a law firm. We gave them the information they required to prove we had another insurance company and they're STILL, trying to claim a thousand dollars that they tried to auto steal out of our account last year when they didn't even have authorization to auto draft. We're going to have to get a lawyer and be in a fight with these bastards for years they are the most lowlife insurance company I've ever seen. From reading the reviews I can see that this is a common theme with them I'll be looking for whatever fraud division I can turn them over to.

Got workers comp for my first employee…

Got workers comp for my first employee who didnt even last long enough to get him on payroll... paid the premium for the whole year.. cancelled and they send this Zoom Audit company and unnecessarily rude Jonna Pradros to threaten me if i dont give them all of my financials immediately. trying to raise the premium after the policy ends is a shady insurance practice. I just spent half of yesterday getting her enough info to prove the situation beyond doubt. 12 month of bank records. she emailed me at 8:30 am that she wants 4 check copies and at 9:17 i get a email from my insurance guy. they say im not cooperating. Dont use PIE.

The auditing and cancellation process at Pie Insurance…

The auditing and cancellation processes at Pie Insurance are a total nightmare! Since every employee at Pie has one and the same email address and phone number guarded by gatekeepers that are unable to help in any way, shape or form yet have gotten the orders to never ever connect your call to somebody who can actually help, and promising callbacks that never happen, you will be asked the same questions and asked for the same documents over and over again. I literally sent some documents as often as 7 to 8 times before finally somebody acknowledged the attachments and put it together. There is absolutely zero communication between employees at the company which became apparent once again when I tried to cancel the policy. They send DocuSign documents which I returned the same day only to get the same request for the same document via DocuSign again 3 days later claiming that the original one had been sent to an old email address of mine, despite Pie only having been given one email address for our business! Then another day later I received an email from yet another Pie Insurance employee telling me that there was no cancellation being processed and that I would have to fill out the document again that I had signed and sent twice before. The process of cancellation is ongoing and with the level of competence I have experienced this far I'm sure it's going to take another couple of months before somebody puts one and one together to finish the process.

I have been in business for over 30 years and I will say that I have not encountered poorer customer service and less competency than I have experienced with Pie over the last few months. I have made the only good decision and moved our Workers Compensation to a different carrier.

Don't be fooled by their slogan!

This place was awful

This place was awful. I was literally just trying to GET a policy and couldn't even accomplish that. I did the online quote, called the number it said to call, they then said they had to transfer me to someone else to move forward. The call never went through. I called again, they transferred me and it went to voicemail after ringing for 3 minutes. Then I called again, they get my info AGAIN, then transferred me, and the person I got had NO clue what was going on. They didn't know my name, the business I'm asking for or even why I was transferred there, SO THEY TRANSFERRED ME AGAIN! Then it came back to the SAME person and she had to TRANSFER ME AGAIN! and then the call dropped.
GET Your Business Together- I'm embarrassed for you.

Terrible insurance

Terrible insurance, terrible customer service, can't get anyone to answer the phone, can't get any calls back, they make you pay 5,000-10,000$ more at the end of the year if your policy is wrong, they give no guidance on work comp insurance or how it all works, they take your money and it's a nightmare dealing with anyone to get it back. Like any insurance company....they straight up suck and scam people out of thousands with their terrible audits of people and give no justification on why you owe an additional 5,000-10,000$

Ignorance

I had to claim an employee who injured his shoulder. According to Pie Insurance, they proceeded to tell me that the employee can lift 10 lbs., so I continued to schedule the employee. After a second trip to the doctor, again Pie stated that I need to put him on the schedule because he can lift 10 pounds. Now they are being sued because they can't tell Left from right! He wasn't to lift anything and could only lift 10 pounds with his good shoulder. NEVER TRUST THIS COMPANY! They dropped me for Adverse Loss Performance; it was their fault. Own up to it!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! I own two small businesses that closed in 2024, and I'm STILL waiting for the audit refunds! They also charged me for 2025, and have refused to refund THAT premium, as well!!! There is never anyone to talk to by phone, and they refuse to answer emails. That's the short version, I have stories for days, but suffice to say I regret ever signing up for Pie! Do NOT use them!!!

And to the marketing person who replies to all of these awful, 1 star reviews, how about you encourage your higher-ups to actually provide decent service, instead of giving us useless platitudes about how much you care about the customer's experience? You don't care, that's obvious, and how you've stayed in business is a mystery to me.
