The Surviving Spain booklet was so helpful on my holiday in Tenerife. I’d definitely recommend Phonetical because the phonetic breakdown of words makes it really clear to pronounce.

WE FOCUS ON YOUR PRONUNCIATION The most important thing when learning a language to use on holiday is SPEAKING, and pronouncing the words CORRECTLY! So we simply focus on the phonetic sounds eg. ‘oh-lah’, rather than the spelling (hola). About our founder Emily- Since being 5 years old and visiting my Grandpa’s villa in Moraira my love for everything Spanish has blossomed and I’ve chosen to make Spanish a big part of my daily life! HOWEVER, the majority of people who holiday in Spain, just want to be able to make small talk with the locals and not come across as a stereotypical ignorant Brit! This is what I have summed up as, ‘GET BY’. My aim is to abolish the ‘typical Brit abroad’ stigma. (I know, ambitious right!) WHY THE PHONETICS? When someone tries to speak Spanish, and the waiter responds back to them in English, they’re confused as to why! This is because a lot of English people speak Spanish using the English mouth movements and alphabet, so of course, their accent sounds English and is difficult to understand. Using the phonetics bypasses this problem and helps encourage your mouth to move in the Spanish pronunciation way. This is one reason why using the phonetics feels so strange at first because people aren't used to their mouth moving in this way.
