Worst Tour Operator

I had booked a tour of Peru with a group of friends. The luxury coach the company promised and showed did not materialise. The toilet broke down, the tyres needed changing, in which case we missed one of the highlights. The guide brought his family on board and was with the family at the back of coach all the time. Not one word about Peru or it’s history. Any changes, and there were too many, were relayed to us the night before. The guide was asking us to pay for tickets which were already paid for. There are too many issues or complaints to put down individually. Whereas we were promised 4 star accommodation, our lodge in Amazon Forest was changed without our permission or prior notice to a lodge that would struggle to get 1 star, leaky roofs, no hot water or sockets in your room, pay extra for hot water for your tea or coffee and the list goes on. I am a seasoned traveller (nearly 30 countries) and never experienced such a terrible tour operator.

Peru, wonderful country overshadowed by a very poor tour operator

My three-week trip to Peru was filled with amazing destinations — Cusco, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, the Uros people, and Ollantaytambo were all exceptional. The people of Peru were genuinely warm and welcoming.

Unfortunately, our experience with Peru Travel (Trippers Peru) was extremely disappointing. Throughout the trip, the itinerary and hotel arrangements were changed repeatedly with little or no notice. The “luxury coach” we were promised never appeared, and we spent long hours on a bus with a non-functioning toilet, which was unsuitable for a group largely aged 60–75.

In the Amazon, we faced the most serious issue. Despite paying for Hacienda Herrera Tambopata Lodge, we were placed in Amazon Paradise Lodge, which was far below acceptable standards — dirty rooms, damaged roofs, filthy mosquito nets, and extra charges for basic hot water. The guide provided minimal information, and we encountered several unexpected last-minute instructions and hidden costs, including late-night notice to pay cash for Nazca Lines flights.

After the trip, we emailed Peru Travel with a detailed list of concerns. They have not replied. I have travelled for over 40 years, and this is the first time I have felt compelled to leave a negative review for a travel company. I strongly advise avoiding Peru Travel (Trippers Peru).
